Nancy E. Smock
ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - Nancy E. Smock, 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville Township.
She was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Joseph and Flora (Ferraro) DePiero.
She was a graduate of Ashtabula High School, where she sang in school operettas. She graduated from Spencerian Business College, Cleveland, where she learned to work as an administrative secretary and do short-hand.
She worked for Western Maryland Railroad, Cleveland, was a secretary at West Junior High School, and was employed at Timken Rockwell, the former Ashtabula General Hospital, and Carlisle's, where she was a quality controller in the men's department. She also did dictation for the Crippled Children's Clinic.
She married Howard Smock on Nov. 14, 1949.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she sang in the church choir. She also was a member of the Child Conservation League, a past member of the former church school Moms and Dads Club, and the Wednesday Night Ladies.
She enjoyed playing the piano, singing and attending symphonies in Cleveland.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Smith and Valerie Rich of Ashtabula; two sons, Larry of Kingsville Township, and Frank of Midland, Texas; eight grandchildren Daniel, Robert and Michelle Patriarco, Natalie and Carrie Lee Rich, and Chad, Melissa and Maranda Smock; and three sisters, , Ann Archibald of San Diego, Calif., Norma Rose of Ashtabula, and Sylvia Campisano of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1994; and an infant brother.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st St., Ashtabula. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Visitation is 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W.19th St., Ashtabula.

Margaret E. Brayman
ASHTABULA - Margaret E. Brayman, 79, of East 43rd Street, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001.
Born May 2, 1922, in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of William and Ethel (Moyle) Norris and was a lifelong Ashtabula County resident.
She was a homemaker and a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church most of her life. For many years, she was active in her church and served as president of the Women’s Association. Her main interests were her family and gardening.
She also was an avid tennis fan.
Survivors include her husband, Barney, whom she married in 1941; a son, Bruce of Ashtabula; a daughter, Bevera Sack of Wickliffe; two granddaughters; and a sister, Lori Miller of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Ruth Brayman, in 1950, a sister, Betty Campbell, in 1991, and her parents.
No service or calling hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1342 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula 44004, or to the charity of one’s choice.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, has charge of the arrangements.

James E. Wilpula
ASHTABULA - James E. Wilpula, 57, of East 47th Street, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 8, 1944, in Cleveland, the son of John R. and Clara (Pavlik) Wilpula.
A resident of Ashtabula most of his life, Mr. Wilpula was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Ohio Army National Guard.
In his earlier years he had worked with his father at Lake Shore Park. He had been a professional truck driver for many years prior to his illness.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and most recently served in the Sunday School presidency. He enjoyed outdoor activities, gardening, classic cars, model trains and was an Indians baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife, Nicki (Petruzzi); three sons, Mark of Montana, Michael of Ashtabula and James of Huron; a daughter, Angela of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandchildren, Mikayla, Colton and Kayleigh Wilpula, and three stepgrandchildren, Trisha, Heather and Shaun Betts; a brother, Donald of Mercer, Pa.; and a sister, Sandra, of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susan.
Service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ashtabula Chapel, 571 Seven Hills Road, Ashtabula, with Bishop Dana Harju officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Childs-Williams Funeral Home, 1440 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church.

Lawrence V. Svec
ASHTABULA -­ Lawrence V. Svec, 81, of Austinburg Township, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at UHHS Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
He was born Dec. 8, 1919, in Cleveland, the son of Andrew and Agnes (Hudack) Svec.
Mr. Svec had lived in Ashtabula County most of his life. He graduated from New Lyme Institute in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He owned and operated his own farm before going to work for Jefferson Welds Plant where he was a mechanic for 20 years before retiring.
Mr. Svec belonged to the Immaculate Conception Church, Madison Township. He enjoyed farming and golf.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence V. Jr. of Shaker Heights; two daughters, Linda R. Hazelton of Geneva, and Lana J. Craig of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Rose Dragon of Ashtabula, and Ruth Savel of Andover; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dean Funeral Home, 3137 E. Center St., North Kingsville, with the Rev. Luigi Miola of Immaculate Conception Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hoursare from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Osceola Eighmy
ASHTABULA -­ Osceola Eighmy, 87, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 10, 1913, in Conneaut, the daughter of Viola and Cliff Carr.
She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1929.
She married Ford Eighmy, who preceded her in death in 1957.
For many years, the couple operated Eighmy Antiques, North Kingsville. She was later employed at Kent State University.
Mrs. Eighmy was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and served on the Board of Deacons.
She had been an active member of the former Power Squadron Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Delphian Readers. During her earlier years, she was active in the Parent Teacher Association and served as state president. She was a 50-year member of Orion Chapter of Eastern Star, Kingsville.
She had been a resident of the Country Club Apartments where she made many friends with fellow residents and the staff.
Survivors include a brother, Cliff of Conneaut; a son, Ford of Barnwell, S.C.; two daughters, Beverly Safcik of Austinburg, and Shirley Timonere of Toledo; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Ashtabula First Presbyterian Church at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church's fund for altar flowers.
The Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.

Eugene P. Battles
ASHTABULA - Eugene P. Battles, 80, of Plymouth Road, died at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Childs-Williams Funeral Home, 1440 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

Joseph J. Danowski Sr.
ASHTABULA - Joseph J. Danowski, Sr., 88, of Ashtabula, died Thursday, June 12, 2003 at his home.
Born October 10, 1914, in Connorville, the son of Julia (Nosal) and Walter Danowski. Mr. Danowski married the late Marian (Harris) Danowski in Steubenville, OH in March of 1957. He was a retired coalminer and had also worked as a Volunteer Fireman.
He had been an Ashtabula resident since September of 1999, moving from Madison and Trumbull, where he lived for 24 years. Prior to that he had lived in Steubenville. He was a member of Here's Hope Baptist Church in Madison and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, and electrical work. He was also a beloved Indian's fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Roxanna (Russ) Giba of Ashtabula and Marian King of Geneva; three sons, Joseph (Kathy) Danowski of Phoenix, AZ, Jerry (Jackie Verosko) Danowski of Painesville, and Paul (Lisa) Danowski of Ashtabula; six grandchildren, Renee Wells, Joshua King, Torren, Kayleigh, Casey and Sophie Danowski; one great-grandchild, Desiray Wells; two sisters, Sophie Koutsky of Dillonville, OH and Ann Lakomy of Detroit, MI; and a brother, Paul Danowski of Silver Springs, MD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Danowski, in 1991; an infant son; his mother, Julia Danowski; and his father, Walter Danowski.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 16, at Here's Hope Baptist Church, 6601 Chapel Rd., Madison. Pastor Bob Higgins of the Here's Hope Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Madison.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 15 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Here's Hope Memorial Fund, c/o Here's Hope Baptist Church, 6601 Chapel Road, Madison, OH 44057.

Raymond Edwin Maki
ASHTABULA - Raymond Edwin Maki, 88, of West 52nd, Ashtabula, died Thursday, June 12, 2003 at Park Haven.
He was born June 14, 1914 in Ashtabula, the son of Herman and Fanny (Hjerpe) Maki and had been an area resident all his life.
Prior to his retirement in 1976, he worked 27 years for Union Carbide.
Mr. Maki was previously employed with Cleveland Cliff Iron Company and Bethleham Steel, for whom he sailed the Great Lakes for many years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was a Merchant Marine.
His hobbies included fishing, gardening, carpentry, and remodeling.
Survivors include three daughters, Rose E. Urbano, Eileen M. (Larry) Goodiel, and Sally A. (Donnie) Peet, all of Ashtabula; two grandchildren, Karen L. Keener and Gloria Maki; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond E. Maki, Jr.; his former wife, Mary (Sousa) Maki; one sister, Marion Maki; one brother, Herman Maki; and his parents.
Services will be held Monday, June 16, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula. Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, Pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula Township.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2003 at Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home.
