Jean L. Graham
ASHTABULA - Jean Long Graham, 82, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born April 7, 1920, in Ashtabula, to John and Florence (McWade) Long. She was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Graham graduated from Ashtabula High School and went on to earn a degree in dental hygiene from the University of Michigan. She worked for Dr. Jack Conway and Dr. Curtis Mertz.
She was an avid golfer and bridge player. She was also gifted in needlework and antique restoration.
Survivors include daughter Kathleen Van Boven of San Francisco, Calif.; son Christopher Graham of Chicago, Ill.; and grandchildren Shannon and Morgan Allen, both of San Francisco, Calif., and Megan Ann Graham of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by husband Robert "Bud" Graham in 1975, brother John Richard Long, sisters Joan Barney and Lois Arrington, and her parents.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, officiated by the Rev. Fr. John J. Hayes. Friends, please meet at church. Burial is in Edgewood Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Ashtabula County, 2420 Lake Ave., Ashtabula 44004.

Danny L. Tilson
ASHTABULA - Danny L. Tilson, 57, of North Ridge Road West, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at University Hospital of Cleveland.
He was born June 18, 1945, in Beckley W.Va., to Dewey L. and Helen I. (Lester) Tilson.
He married Cindy McElroy Sept. 30, 2000.
Mr. Tilson was a foreman at Neff-Perkins in Perry for 16 years.
He was a member of New Life Assembly of God, Geneva.
Mr. Tilson enjoyed fishing, motorcycling and four-wheeling. He was an animal and nature lover.
Survivors include his wife; daughters Tammy Cantrell of Conneaut, DeNette Lea Paul of Marietta, Ga., and DeAnna Deanne Zeigler of Waldorf, Md.; stepdaughters Angela Arnett of Kingsville and Jeanna Arnett of Painesville; stepson Gilbert Arnett of Buckhannon, W.Va.; grandchildren Tiffany, Sophia, TeAnna, David, Ayla, Billy, Aryelle and Gabrielle; one great-grandchild; brothers Rocky of Austinburg, David of Geneva and Michael of Huntington, W.Va.; and sisters Brenda Lester of LaFayette, Tenn. and Wanda Cagle of Perry.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, officiated by the Rev. Harry Pischura of New Life Assembly of God of Geneva. Burial is in Mechanicsville Cemetery, Austinburg.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruth L. Duncan
ASHTABULA - Ruth L. Duncan, 59, of Cardinal Drive in Ashtabula, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.
She was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Cleveland, the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Burgermeister) McKnight.
She had worked for the Cleveland Press and at the Ashtabula County Courthouse.
She attended the Harbor United Methodist Church in Ashtabula and, in her younger years, was involved with the Euclid Little Theater. She enjoyed playing cards, word puzzles, the "Wheel of Fortune" television game show, collecting angels and attending church.
Survivors include a daughter, Wendy Clark of Ashtabula; and two brothers, Richard McKnight of Willoughby Hills and Robert McKnight of Painesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roger Duncan, in 1999.
Grave-side services are 11 a.m. Friday at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery on Grove Drive in Ashtabula. The Rev. Sandra Dennis, of the Harbor United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Naoma J. Calaway
ASHTABULA - Naoma June Calaway, 68, of Ohio Avenue, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at the Cleveland Clinic.
She was born Aug. 4, 1934, in Alma, W.Va., to Thomas and Lillian G. (Spencer) Tennant. She had been an Ashtabula resident since 1945.
Mrs. Calaway was employed as a workshop instructor for Ashcraft.
Mrs. Calaway was a family-oriented and artistic mother. She enjoyed her grandchildren, roses, being involved in the community, sewing, floral arranging and baking.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Anne Enos and Jennifer J. Nappi, both of Ashtabula; two sons, Thomas J. of Ashtabula, and Steven W. of Jefferson; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Brandy, Steven, Katee, Jillian, Alex, Taiylor and Jerry Lee; two brothers, Lawrence B. Tennant of Andover, and William D. Tennant of Ashtabula; and two sisters, Frances Wilson and Sandra Leonard, both of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Calaway, whom she married Sept. 19, 1953; her parents; and a granddaughter, Connie J. Enos, in infancy.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Officiating will be the Rev. Joyce Shellhammer, lay pastor of Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thomas B. Thompson Jr.
ASHTABULA - Thomas Benjamin Thompson Jr., 64, of Thayer Avenue, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at his home.
Born Aug. 7, 1938, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Thomas B. and Lillian (Camp) Thompson and had been an area resident since 1966, coming from Massachusetts.
He married Donna Knapp on Jan. 9, 1960.
Mr. Thompson was an employee of Vygen, retiring in 1990.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the Geneva Veterans of Foreign Wars, Geneva Eagles and the Army/Navy Club.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, painting ceramics, and dogs.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Rosemarie Thompson of Sheffield Township, William J. Shelley of Eastlake, Timothy G. Shelley of Wyoming, Sandra L. Johnson of Conneaut, and Thomas B. Shelley of Aurora; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Florida Tidy of Jefferson and Marilyn Vincent of Geneva; a brother, Ronald Thompson; and a stepsister, Colleen McMinn of Geneva.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Kirk William Shelley and Robert Paul Shelley; a brother, Oliver Thompson; and his parents.
Service is 4 p.m. Friday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. S. Harve Senter of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chardon, will officiate. Geneva VFW Post 6846 will conduct military rites at the conclusion of the service.

Wendy A. Westra
STATE ROAD, N.C. - Wendy Ann (Hayes) Westra of Dowd Place died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mrs. Westra was 37, being born on Jan. 26, 1965, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Thomas E. and Alma (Hjerpe) Hayes.
Mrs. Westra graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1983. She was employed by the Yadkin Valley Bank in Elkin, N.C. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Tom E. Westra; two sons, Merle Thomas Hayes of Lincolnton, N.C. and Thomas E. Westra Jr. of Waxaw, N.C.; her mother, Alma (Hjerpe) Kellogg, formerly of Geneva and now of Bryan, Texas; two sisters, Darla Hayes Wright and Tammy Hayes Propes, both of Bryan, Texas; a brother, Robert R. Kellogg of Geneva; a stepsister, Eileen M. Kellogg, and a stepbrother, David L. Kellogg, both of Tarpons Springs, Fla. Wendy also is survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wendy was preceded in death by her father, Thomas E. Hayes; paternal grandparents, Thomas C. and Eugenia M. Hayes; maternal grandparents, Richard W. Hjerpe and Alys M. (Hjerpe) Claussen; her uncle Richard A. Hjerpe; her aunt Frances Hayes Pierson; and a stepbrother, Keith M. Kellogg.
Services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Attaway officiating. Burial followed at Crestwood Memorial Gardens, State Road, N.C.

Theodore M. Armstrong
ASHTABULA - Theodore Merle Armstrong, 76, of Lucas Avenue, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born May 14, 1926, in Braceville, the son of Arthur and Nina (Armstrong) Armstrong, and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a sales representative for 30 years at LaTouraine Coffee (Superior and Sara Lee), and had operated his own coffee distribution business since 1994. He also worked for Leahy Motors, Ashtabula, and G.C. Meade Auto Dealer, Jefferson, as a mechanic.
Mr. Armstrong was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, founded 30 years ago, and held many offices within the organization.
He enjoyed working outdoors, gardening and animals.
Survivors include his wife, Esther E. (Koi), whom he married July 3, 1952; three sons, Gregory P., of Ocala, Fla., Jerry James Massaro of Algonquin, Ill., and David William Armstrong of Melbourne, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Marie Armstrong in 1985; four brothers, Paul, Luke, James, and Robert; two sisters, Doris Brabitz and Geraldine Mines; and his parents.
A private family service will be held at Ducro Funeral Services at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, 3137 E. Center St., North Kingsville. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
No calling hours will be observed.
