Mary Lemponen
ASHTABULA - Mary Lemponen, 93, of West 58th Street, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville Township.
She was born July 19, 1908, in Bethlehem, Pa., to Paul and Mary (Luntzendorfer) Engel. She spent most of her life in the Jefferson area before moving to Ashtabula in 1969. She married George H. Lemponen June 29, 1935, in Ripley, N.Y.
Mrs. Lemponen was active in 4-H when her children were growing up. She enjoyed bowling and played in a kitchen band when wintering in Bradenton, Fla.
Survivors include daughters Loretta M. Whiddon of Virginia Beach, Va. and Verna L. Howe of Ashtabula; grandchildren Deanna Newcomer, Ann West, David, Steven and Diana Leroux, Robin Boggs, Erick Larson and Robert II, Ward and Laurel Howe; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous grandchildren by marriage.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1991, son Louis Dinya, daughter Thelma T. Leroux, grandson Robert C. Smith, great-granddaughter Alexandra Newcomer, half-brother John Ridler and half-sisters Katherine Nagy and Helen Pavalus.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, officiated by the Rev. Fred Grimm of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial is in Oakdale Cemetery.

Bethel Lang
ASHTABULA - Bethel Lang, 67, of Blue Jay Circle, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born March 11, 1934, in McDowell, Ky., the daughter of Oscar and Mary Bell (Tackett) Osborne, and had lived in Ashtabula since 1989. She previously lived in Indianapolis, Ind., for 20 years.
Prior to retirement, she worked as an assistant manager in the delicatessen at Scott Ladd Foods in Indianapolis.
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God and enjoyed singing, country music, family gatherings and her flower garden.
Survivors include her mother, of Ashtabula; her husband, Michael Patrick Lang, whom she married March 15, 1958; a son, of McDowell, Ky.; a daughter, Delores Ann Mason of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Beatrice Root, Betty Jean Frasure and Nora Lee Sotomayor, all of Ashtabula, Hazel Reed of Kingsville, Zetta Brooks of Beech Grove, Ind., and Brenda Kay Snow of San Marcus, Calif.; and three brothers, Tavis Osborne of Geneva, Kenneth Osborne of Ashtabula, and Oscar Osborne Jr. of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday at the Pentecostal Church of God, 2201 Cook Road, Ashtabula. The Rev. Kenneth Roberts, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Saybrook Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula.

Elli E. Anderson
ASHTABULA - Elli E. Anderson, 81, of Ashtabula, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Helsinki, Finland, the daughter of Matt and Allena Stenback.
She attended Edgewood High School and was an Ashtabula High School graduate. A registered nurse, she practiced in Ravenna and the former Ashtabula General Hospital, and retired from Union Carbide as an industrial nurse.
She enjoyed ceramics, knitting and traveling.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Sr. of Ashtabula; sons Albert Jr. of Copley, and Chuck of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren Kara and Kyle Anderson; a brother, Leo Stenback of Arizona; and a sister, Eva Hathy of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Vecho Stenback.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.

Tracy Lee Begin
ASHTABULA - Tracy Lee Begin, 22, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in the Cleveland Clinic.
The daughter of Donald and Alice (Jennings) Felsted, she was born Oct. 10, 1978. in Ware, Mass.
Begin attended Happy Hearts School and was to graduate from AshCraft May 24. She enjoyed the Rugrats cartoon, Legos and playing with her family.
Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Jeanne M. and Victoria A. Felsted of Ashtabula; a brother, Jeffery A. Avis of Palmer, Mass.; paternal grandfather, Donald Felsted of Conneaut; and paternal grandmother, Anne Felsted of West Haven, Conn.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kevin Horrigan, officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Gilbert J. Moody
ASHTABULA - Gilbert J. Moody, 41, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Pueblo, Colo.
The son of Gilbert E. and Monica M. (Moody) Garvey, he was born Feb. 6, 1960 in Ashtabula.
Mr. Moody was a member of BPO Elks 90 and a former member of the Pueblo West Volunteer Fire Department.
He worked at Pueblo Distributing for the past 10 years.
He enjoyed playing softball, golf, fishing, snow sledding, basketball and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Chris; two daughters, Keira and Tricia of Pueblo; his mother; and three sisters, Monica Ann Tomchak, Thelma Miller and Marcene Grywalsky. all of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Praise Assembly of God, 2000 Troy Ave., Pueblo. A memorial service will be held in Ashtabula at a later date.
Calling hours are noon to 4 p.m. Monday at George McCarthy Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Pueblo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Esther R. Brawley
ASHTABULA - Esther R. Brawley, 73, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Sharon Regional Hospital in Sharon, Pa.
The daughter of Henry and Wilhamina Eiloo, she was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Richmond Township. She has been a long-time area resident.
Mrs. Brawley was employed by Ashtabula Rubber Co. until her retirement.
Survivors include two sons: Harry L. Jr. of Ashtabula and Michael S. of Elyria; two daughters: Debra A. Shelby of West Middlesex, Pa., and Sharon K. Tsai of Ashtabula; four grandchildren: Benjamin, James, Claire and Logan; one brother, Eddie of Parma; and two sisters: Martha Howell of Mansfield and Pearl of Cherry Valley.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Harry H. Grawley Sr.
Private services will be held Thursday at Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, with the Rev. William Offut, of Jefferson First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.

James W. McGrath
ASHTABULA - James W. McGrath, 67, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 at the Hospice Unit of the Ashtabula County Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mr. McGrath was born Feb. 19, 1933 in Altoona, Pa., the son of John G. and Clara M. (Ewing) McGrath. He has been a resident of Austinburg for the past 24 years, coming from Mentor.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served in the Korean War. He was a 42 year employee of Lincoln Electric before retiring in 1995.
He was a member of Mentor Baptist Church, enjoyed tinkering and repairing anything, especially old cars, and loved model airplanes, gardening, and yardwork.
He is survived by his wife, Lois J. (Porter), whom he married May 12, 1962 in Cochranton, Pa.; a son, Ronald McGrath, sr., of Altoona, Pa.; a daughter, Katherine Jo Jones of Tennessee; three step-children, Gary Nale of Saegertown, Pa., Linda Francis of Mentor, and Cathy Fogaty of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Robert McGrath of Louisville; and two sisters, Janice Geis and Nancy Zeak, both of Altoona, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jerome and William "Mickey" McGrath.
No services of calling hours will be held. Cremation will take place at the Care Group Cremation Center in Jefferson.
