Ida M. Mendrala
ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP Ida M. Mendrala, 70, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Takacs) Monda.
A member of Bethany Lutheran Church, she was a 1949 Ashtabula High School graduate. She retired from the Sears Catalog Department.
She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and her family.
Survivors include her husband, Theodore; three sons, Jeffrey of Chardon and Doug and Greg of Ashtabula; a daughter, Debra Van Pelt of Ashtabula; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Beverly Foderetti of Ashtabula and Trudy Williams of Medina.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Osceola C. Eighmy
ASHTABULA - A memorial service for Osceola Catherine Eighmy will be at 2 p.m. June 2 at the First Presbyterian Church, Ashtabula. The Rev. Stephen Long will officiate.
She died April 12, 2001, and a graveside service was held April 14 at Edgewood Cemetery.
Survivors include a brother, Cliff Carr of Conneaut; a son, Ford Eighmy of Barnwell, S.C.; two daughters, Shirley Timonere of Toledo, and Beverly Safcik of Austinburg; grandchildren Scott Safcik, Sandra Ellis, Jennifer Bainbridge, Anne Bennett, Stacia McClintock, Ford Eighmy III, Abbey Easter and Beth Gower; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the altar flower fund at First Presbyterian Church.
Nickolas Varee
ASHTABULA Nickolas Varee, 72, of 6230 Runkle Ave., died Saturday April 14, 2001, at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Varee was born in Spring Township, Crawford County, Pa., Nov. 21, 1928, a son of Constantine and Elizabeth (Schaeffer) Varee.
He was a retired employee of Millennium Inorganic Plant 1 of Ashtabula Township and also worked at Reactive Metals of Ashtabula Township for 10 years.
Mr. Varee attended St. Joseph Catholic Church of Ashtabula was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed carpentry and traveling.
He is survived by one son, Dennis of Ashtabula; four daughters, Marilyn Westropp of St. Petersburg, Fla., Lori McLaughlin of Conneaut, Madonna Glenn of Fredricksburg, Va., Connie Robbins of Ocala, Fla.; four daughters, Elizabeth Lehman and Barbara Varee of Conneautville, Pa., Marjorie Slubowski of Erie, Katherine Martin of Richmond, Mi. and Maggie Steigerwald of Springboro, Pa.; three brothers, Constantine of Madison Heights, Mich., John of Springboro, Pa., and Joe of Conneautville and six grandchildren, Nicole, Mary, Stacy, Megan, Nyssa and Nicholas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frank; and two sisters, Frances Fenn and Anna Varee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church of Conneautville, Pa., at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Robert Fedor of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Conneautville officiating.
Burial will be at Spring Cemetery in Springboro, Pa.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the White -Cool Funeral Home, 1403 Water St., Conneautville.

Mary Jane Leonard
ASHTABULA - Mary Jane Leonard, 71, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Conneaut, the daughter of Benjamin and Nellie Wimer.
Mrs. Leonard was a member of the First Church of God in Ashtabula.
She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors, and was a housewife and homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, June Wallace of New Hampshire, and Joanne Sneck of Ashtabula; four sons, Joseph Kurey of Fla., John and James Leonard of Ashtabula, and Jerry Leonard of Youngstown; six sisters, Florence, Pearl, Cindy, Della, Rosie and Margie; two brothers, Roy and Benny; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edna Bell; and her husband, Joseph Edward Kurey.
Service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were handled by the Potti Lakeside Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula.
Timothy G.H. Taylor
ASHTABULA - Timothy George Hess Taylor died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center shortly after birth.
Survivors include his parents, Tonya D. Hess, of Dorset, and Todd A. Taylor Sr. of Princeton, W.Va.; grandparents, Rita E. Hess of Dorset, Henry D. Hess, Sr. and Vicki Taylor, both of Princeton, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Todd Allen Taylor, Jr.; and a grandfather, George Taylor.
Service will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. The Rev. Stephen Wassie of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church will officiate.
Gary R. Pomp
ASHTABULA - Gary R. Pomp, 49, of Jefferson Avenue, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 10, 1951, in Winchester, Va., the son of Gene and Katherine (Lee) Pomp and had been an area resident most of his life.
A graduate of Painesville Harvey High School, he was an active flea marketer, specializing in game machines.
He had an interest in Indian cultures and enjoyed western movies. He collected telephones, along with many other items.
Mr. Pomp leaves no immediate survivors.
Service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God, will officiate.
No calling hours will be observed.
Fernando Rodriguez
ASHTABULA Fernando Rodriguez Sr., 68, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in his home.
He was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, the son of Justin and Ines (Melendez) Rodriguez.
He worked for Losely Nursery until his retirement in 1985. Previously he worked for Sunleaf Nursery and Amfac-Horton Nursery.
Mr. Rodriguez was a member of St. Joseph Church in Ashtabula. He enjoyed cooking, hosting pig roasts, gardening and, most importantly, spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Maria (Peguero), whom he wed Dec. 28, 1964; sons: Hector, Fernando "Pete" and Carlos, all of New Jersey, Julio of Seattle, Wash., and Jose "Ralph" of Virginia; daughters: Lydia and Iris, both of New Jersey, Marina Rivera and Carmen, both of Ashtabula; 16 grandchildren; his brothers: Martin and Juan; and sisters: Carmen, Virginia, Basilisa and Josifina, all of Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Fernando Jr. in 1995; brothers: Baro, Candido and Rafael; and sisters, Ines and Ana.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
