Bertha C. Pinyard
ASHTABULA - Bertha C. (Topper) Pinyard, 85, of Elyria, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Ashtabula, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 24, 1915, in Dunlo, Pa., she was the daughter of Anthony and Ella Walsh.
Mrs. Pinyard had lived in Elyria since 1946. She was co-owner and an operator at the Paul-Bertha's Beauty Salon on Cleveland Street in Elyria for 35 years.
Mrs. Pinyard was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, the Altar and Rosary Society, St. Jude's Seniors, the Legion of Mary and the St. Francis Mission (Indian Mission).
She was a 1932 graduate of Adams Township High School in Sidman, Pa.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Kovacs of Ashtabula; two sons, C. Patrick of Plano, Texas, and Michael of Peterborough, N.H.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil L., in October 1981; her parents; a daughter, Mary Beth Hagerty; two sisters, Mary Betz and Madaline Walsh; and two brothers, Charles Walsh and John George.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Reichlin-Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria, with the Rev. Frank P. Kosem officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruby M. Detre
ASHTABULA – Ruby M. Detre, 99, of W. 48th St., died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
She was born May 11, 1903, in Rock Creek, the daughter of Frank and Daisy (Smith) Bishop.
She moved to Ashtabula in 1942 from Warren, where she had worked for General Electric.
Mrs. Detre was a member of Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church and was active in its Golden Circle. She was a member of the OK Rebecca Lodge, where she played the organ for 62 years. She was a membership of and played the piano for the YWCA and the Ashtabula Senior Center. She also played the organ and piano for different nursing homes in the area.
She is survived by a daughter, Norleen Paulchel of Ashtabula, two grandsons, James and Gregory Paulchel of Ashtabula; and a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Paulchel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer H. Detre, in 1982; and three brothers, Gay, Homer and Bernie Bishop.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5807 Adams Ave., with interim pastor Joyce Shellhammer and the Rev. Robert Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with an OK Rebecca Lodge service at 3:45 p.m.

Florence C. Oligher
ASHTABULA - Florence C. Oligher, 69, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Coraopolis, Pa., the daughter of John and Theresa (Koval) Hassick and had been an Ashtabula resident most of her life.
Mrs. Oligher attended Kent State University, Ashtabula campus, and worked as a case worker for the Ashtabula County Department of Human Services prior to retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Hall of Strongsville; a son, Kurt of Dallas; a brother, Jack Hasak of Cape Coral, Fla.; a sister, Delores Ruffing of Corona del Mar, Calif.; and her mother of Corona del Mar, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Service is noon Thursday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Philip Miller, pastor of St. Joseph Church, will officiate.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Patsy Carol Fairchild
ASHTABULA - Patsy Carol Fairchild, 48, of Ashtabula, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at her residence.
Born January 12, 1955, in Ashtabula, the daughter of James and Helen Louise (Williamson) Fairchild.
Patsy was a lifelong Ashtabula resident. She had worked as a bookkeeper and she was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her mother, Helen of Ashtabula; brother, Doug Fairchild and his wife, Marye Etta, of Concord Twp.; sister, Sharon McCoy, and her husband, Marshall, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Patsy was preceded in death by her father.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. Rev. Richard E. Bowen will officiate. Private burial services are in Edgewood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mary M. Slider
ASHTABULA – Mary Magdeline Slider, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
She was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Wetzel County, West Virginia, the daughter of Charles Umble and Ella Mae (Edgell) Norris.
Mrs. Slider worked at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Industrial Rayon in Painesville and Rayon Polyester Cord Manufacturing. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, baking, spending time with her family and her involvement with the church prayer chain.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy S. Slider and Katherine J. Coy-Hawley, both of Ashtabula; a brother, Richard Norris of Brown, W.Va.; a sister, Violet Hutchinson of Saybrook Township; six grandchildren, Karen Brunning, Richard Coy, Wendy Scott, Amy Slider, Kathy Campbell and Johnny Slider; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lindsay Slider, who died Oct. 18, 1987; a son, Richard L. Slider; a sister, Carol Sue Norris in infancy; a grandson, David Brunning; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Catherine Brunning; a great-grandson, David Ernst Hall; and a great-great-granddaughter, Priscilla Hall.
Funeral service is noon Monday at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2929 Carpenter Road, Ashtabula, with John Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula and 11 a.m. to time of service Monday at the Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Dean B. Olin
ASHTABULA - Dean B. Olin, 77, of Center Road, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born April 21, 1924, in Saybrook Township, the son of Youngs A. and Viola (Large) Olin, and was a lifelong Ashtabula County resident.
He attended Saybrook and Harbor schools, and was a track star at Harbor High School, setting the state record at that time for the 100-yard dash.
He left school on his 18th birthday to enlist in the U.S. Army, serving with the 506th anti-aircraft artillery in Hawaii. He was on detached service with the Marines for the invasion of Iwo Jima. Mr. Olin witnessed the first and second flag-raisings on Iwo Jima.
He worked in maintenance at Elkem Metals for 35 years, retiring in 1985.
He married Faye J. Ringler on Dec. 6, 1980, in Ashtabula.
Mr. Olin was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6846, Geneva, and a member of the American Legion Dewey-Howlett Post 103, Ashtabula. He was a member of both organizations for 55 years. He also was a life member of the Army-Navy Union Garrison 411, Ashtabula.
He was past commander at the Geneva VFW twice, was a Cooty member, and transferred to Pup Tent 92 VFW Post 1500, Willoughby.
He enjoyed traveling and was an avid World War II historian.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, George Burgard of Ashtabula, and Charles Burgard of Madison; a stepson, Bruce Colflesh of Ashtabula; a stepdaughter, Kathy Davies of Conneaut; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dale of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Pearl; a stepdaughter, Joanna Colflesh; two brothers, Alson and Robert; two sisters, Ruth and Wilge; and a grandson, Michael J. Colflesh.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday at the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva. The Rev. Jay Schmidt, of Central Congregational Church, Madison, will officiate. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Christina M. Acierno
ASHTABULA - Christina Marie Acierno, daughter of Regina (Acierno) Sergent, was still born Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 in Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Survivors include her mother Regina of Ashtabula; sisters, Heather (Acierno) Sergent and Amy Jo Sergent; and maternal grandmother, Wanda Acierno.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Joseph A. Acierno.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, at Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. John Jones of Light House Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
