Martin J. Mooney
ASHTABULA - Martin J. Mooney, 75, of Woodman Ave. died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Mooney was born March 23, 1927, in Port Leyden, N.Y., the son of Jacob W. and Florence M. (Belknap) Mooney Jr. He lived in Ashtabula since 1994 after living in Utica, N.Y.
He married to the former Catherine E. Worden on Sept. 30, 1949, in Forestport, N.Y.
Mr. Mooney was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1990 as a welder, working for a heating and air conditioning company in upstate New York.
While living in New York, he was active with several bowling leagues and traveled to many state bowling tournaments. He won a tournament in Utica, N.Y.
He also enjoyed woodworking and reading.
Survivors include three sons, Martin G.J. Mooney of Jefferson, Michael J. Mooney of Belle View, Fla., and Melvin J. Mooney of Sunrise, Fla.; four grandchildren, Arthur A. Farley, Dawn Marie Rivera, Sherri Lynn Rogers and Martin Steven Mooney; seven great-grandchildren; and his companion, Sue MacPherson of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine, in 1996; a daughter, Myra Clarissa Mooney, at birth in 1960; a granddaughter, Jeanette Rogers; and two brothers, Lyle and Melvin Mooney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Gordon Emerson officiating.
Burial will be in Rome Center Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Nicholas J. Fish
ASHTABULA - Nicholas J. Fish, 74, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born May 9, 1927 in Ashtabula, the son of Luigi and Camille (DeSilvia) Fish.
Mr. Fish was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Military Police during World War II.
He married Mary F. (Ferry) on Dec. 14, 1951 in Geneva.
Mr. Fish worked for the N.Y. Central-Conrail Railroad Systems for 17 years and then went on to retire from the A & B Dock Company, after 17 years of service.
He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks 208, The East Ashtabula Club, and the American Bowlers Association.
Mr. Fish was an avid bowler; his love and talent for the sport earned him an induction into the Ashtabula County Bowlers Hall of Fame in 2001.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years; his son Daniel of Ashtabula; his daughter, Pamela Smith of Columbus; his brothers, Anthony of Ashtabula, Damon of Eastlake and Cosmo of Rock Creek; his sisters, Livia Martin of W. Va., Adeline Lewis of N.C., and Caroline Henderson of Cleveland; his granddaughters, Allison Smith of Columbus, and Melanie and Ashley Fish, both of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Guy and sisters, Susan Gillespie and Mary Conley.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Jeff Silvius officiating.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rose J. Mercilliott
ASHTABULA - Rose J. Mercilliott, 90, of Lake Road West, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born March 9, 1912, in Lenox Township, the daughter of George and Ella (Hertz) Ensman.
A lifelong resident of Ashtabula County, Mrs. Mercilliott attended Mother of Sorrows Church and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening flowers, reading, quilting and her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Reddig of Ashtabula; a son, Jim of North Kingsville; five grandchildren, Elaine, Mike, Kayla and Kasi Mercilliott and Deanna Sjostrom; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Peggy Washburn of Ashtabula, Helen Spencer of Columbus and Shirley Cornell of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stacey Betteys; three brothers, Lawrence, Bernard and Richard; four sisters, Mildred Goodwin, Dorothy Davis, Ilene Gochneaur and Beatrice Ensman; and her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mother of Sorrows Church, 1514 W. Sixth St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kevin Peters presiding. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Askew-Brink-Ducro Harbor Funeral Home, 1709 W. 11th St., Ashtabula.

Jennie K. Hakala
ASHTABULA - Jennie K. Hakala, 93, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home in Kingsville.
Mrs. Hakala was born Aug. 27, 1908, in Sanginjoki, Finland, the daughter of Pekka and Katri (Aho) Honkala.
She resided in Ashtabula for the past 56 years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Kristen L. Adkins of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Helvi of Finland; and great-granddaughter, Andrea Adkins of Virginia Beach, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl Hakala; and daughter, Katrina Malkie.
Private funeral services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. David L. Hofer of Bethany Lutheran Church will officiate.
Burial is in Edgewood Cemetery.
Guy Robert Fish
ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - Guy Robert Fish, 71, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born Sept. 23, 1930, in Ashtabula, the son of Fred and Lucy (Garafolo) Fish.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a former member of the East Ashtabula Club, the Riverside Yacht Club, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a self-employed brick and block layer, working in the Ashtabula area for most of his life.
Mr. Fish enjoyed sports, especially the Cleveland Indians and Browns., fishing, and his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Marceda (Notarianni); a son, Robert, of Gilbert, Ariz.; two daughters, Susan Mongenel and LuAnn Fish of Ashtabula; a stepson, David Tredent of Ashtabula; three stepdaughters, Renee Smith and Susan Simrak of Ashtabula, and Paula Cantini of Roaming Shores; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred of Ashtabula and Tony of California; and three sisters, Josephine Massi and Ida St. Angelo of Ashtabula, and Delores May of Boardman.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Bayus and Nancy DiGiacomo.
Service is noon Monday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
No calling hours will be observed.
Norma O. Campagna
ASHTABULA - Norma O. Campagna, 80, of East 42nd Street, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at the Country Club Retirement Center.
Born Nov. 9, 1920, in Fredericksburg, Texas, she was the daughter of Helmuth and Alma (Koennecke) Ottmers and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1947.
Mrs. Campagna owned and operated Ashtabula Embroidery and Lettering Service from 1951 to 1982.
A member of St. Joseph Church, she enjoyed bowling, sewing, crafts and gardening. She also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, John F., whom she married March 17, 1946; three daughters, Diane Stright of Ashtabula, Lynnette Lillis of Allen, Texas, and Patricia Hyland of Ravenna; two sons, John A. of Pierpont Township and Paul W. of Geneva; 14 grandchildren; a step great-grandson; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Ottmers of Sunrise Beach, Texas, and James Ottmers of Fredericksburg, Texas; and a sister, Minna Novian of Fredericksburg, Texas.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Guenther, and her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Philip Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.

Harriett Jean Smith
ASHTABULA Harriett Jean Smith, 74, of Perryville Place died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at her home.
She was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Harry and Jessie (McMullen) Peats.
Mrs. Smith was a resident of Conneaut before moving to Ashtabula in 1965. She was employed with Rockwell Plastics of Ashtabula for several years before retiring in 1981.
She was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church, Swinging Seniors and TOPS and senior regent of Women of the Moose Lodge. She was also awarded a certificate of appreciation from Children Services. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Senior Center, dancing, singing and bowling.
Survivors include nine children, William K., Jessie, John, James, Joseph and Jeffery Smith, Bessie Neuman, Mary Verdi and Janice Henton, all of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Billy, David, Scott, Aliesha, Kylene, J.W., Ray, Daniel, Haley, Brian and Jedediah; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William R. Smith, in 1967; two brothers, Harry and Bill Peats; and two sisters, Betty Cecil and Katherine Pennington.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Prospect Presbyterian Church, 1342 Prospect Road, Ashtabula. The Rev. Charles Althoff, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Geneva, will officiate. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula Township.
