George "Moe" Mochoskay
ASHTABULA - George "Moe" Mochoskay, 72, of W. Lakecliff Drive, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, of complications from diabetes.
He was born May 15, 1929, in Warsaw, the son of George Sr. and Chloe (Jones) Mochoskay. He had resided in Ashtabula for the past 47 years.
Mr. Mochoskay attended Mansfield Senior High School, where he was named to the All-American team in football. He served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 101st Airborne during the Korean War.
He married Shirley Mae Stevenson on Aug. 3, 1959. They met while working together at Sears Roebuck in downtown Ashtabula.
Prior to working at Sears, Mr. Mochoskay had owned and operated a Sunoco service station in Ashtabula Township. He also worked as a salesman for Jerry Sinkler Ford and Anderson's Appliances.
He enjoyed classic cars, especially Lincoln Continentals and Towncars. He also like watching football games, photographing his cars, his home and his family. His favorite pastime was telling stories to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of Ashtabula; a son, Stephen of Ashtabula; three daughters, Judy Mochoskay of Erie, Michelle Stroup of Saybrook Township, and Jennifer Van Norman of Ashtabula; five grandsons, Christopher, Nicholas and Zachary Stroup, and Matthew and Derek Van Norman; a brother, Edward, and a sister, Maxine Pryor, both of Mansfield.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kathleen Evans of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery, Austinburg Road.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Thomas L. Whalen
ASHTABULA - Whalen, Thomas L., beloved husband of the late Margaret Nee Urban; dearest father of Thomas, Matthew, Margaret "Peg" Whalen (husband Terry Hardy), John, James (wife Margaret), Maryanne Posta (husband Henry) and Robert; devoted grandfather of Shannon, Daniel and Brian, Daniel and Andrew; dear brother of William, Bernard (deceased), Frank, Mary Kenney (deceased), Annabelle and Kathleen Andrews. Thomas was born in Ashtabula, Ohio. The family suggests contributions to the Special Olympics. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM Monday, June 23, 2003 at St. Gregory The Great Church. Floyd Hoback
ASHTABULA - Floyd Hoback Jr., 78, of Ashtabula, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at home.
He was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Beaver Falls, Pa., to Floyd C. and Nora (Smith) Hoback, and was reared in southern Ohio. He attended school in Racine, before entering the U.S. Army, serving from 1945 through 1948. He served In World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
He was married July 20, 1957, to Lois Riehl.
Mr. Hoback worked as a metal polisher at the Ashtabula Forge, formerly the Bow Socket, until the plant closed in 1985.
Mr. Hoback was interested in baseball. He was the manager for his sons' Little League teams. He also held many offices in the Little League organization.
Survivors include his wife; eight children, Howard of Conneaut; Patricia Swanson of Valpariso, Ind., Bradley of Haywood, Calif., Brian of Oregon, Pamela Stockton of Idaho, Barry in U.S. Army, stationed in Germany; Terry of Ashtabula and Jerry of North Kingsville; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. There will be no services.

Eva I. Wasson
ASHTABULA - Eva I. Wasson, 83, of West 42nd St., died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Oil City, Pa., the daughter of Albert L. and Kathryn (Morrissey) Rosenburg.
Mrs. Wasson was employed with Carlisle's Department Store for more than 25 years, working in the lingerie department.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Ashtabula, and a member of the National Campers and Hikers Club. Mrs. Wasson had been active as a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother and with the PTA.
She enjoyed camping, latchhooking and sewing.
Survivors include her son, Charles A. Pelley of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Ruth E. Mather of Ashtabula; three grandsons, Charles and Timothy Pelley and Brian Mather; a great-grandson; and a sister, Eula Gordtney of Mentor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Melvin C. Pelley, in 1972; her second husband, Dean Wasson, in 1991; a son, Melvin C. Pelley Jr., in infancy; and a brother, Louis Rosenburg.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, 6920 Austinburg Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kathleen Evans officiating. Burial will be in Austinburg Center Cemetery, Austinburg Township.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula; and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.
Charles Petry
ASHTABULA - Charles Ward Petry, 95, of Westminster Avenue, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the Country Club Retirement Center.
He was born Dec. 16, 1906, in Coshocton, the son of Lewis and Ida (Smith) Petry, and lived in Ashtabula for most of the past 50 years.
He earned a business degree from Ohio State University, and worked as a civilian inspector for the Navy during World War II. Later, he worked for City Loan, the National Bank, the county of San Bernadino, Calif., and briefly operated his own furniture store in Jefferson.
He married the former Antoinette G. Falkner on Aug. 10, 1929.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed discussing the stock market.
Survivors include two sons, Robert of Ashtabula, and Richard of Dover, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Pamela and Bradley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on Feb. 15, 1999; and a brother, Walter Petry.
A graveside service will be held in Saybrook Cemetery at a later date.
No calling hours will be held.

Donald A. Detore
ASHTABULA - Donald A Detore, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, in the Country Club Retirement Center.
He was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Ashtabula, to Michael and Mary (Zullo) Detore.
Mr. Detore was a graduate of Ashtabula High School. He served in the U.S. Army.
He worked for Conrail 43 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Detore was a member of the American Legion 103, Mother of Sorrows Church, the North End Club, the United Transportation Union and a past member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman.
He enjoyed traveling. He golfed with the North End Club and was a member of Village Green Golf Course.
Survivors include wife Lorene (Penna) Detore; sons Donald J. of North Canton and Mark A. of Willowick; grandchildren Laura and Joseph Detore; brothers Joseph, John and Rocco Detore, all of Ashtabula; and sister Mary Lillvis of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Nicholas and Robert, and sister Antoinette Gustaferro.
Funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mother of Sorrows Church, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
Joseph C. Daywalt
ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - Joseph C. Daywalt, 17, of South Ridge Road East, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Kingsville Township, as a result of an automobile crash.
He was born June 13, 1984, in Ashtabula, the son of Craig R. and Terri (Tanner) Daywalt and had been a lifelong area resident.
He would have been a junior at Edgewood Senior High School and the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School this fall.
This summer, he worked with his grandfather, Nathan Tanner, in construction.
He was a member of the Ashtabula First Church of the Nazarene where he helped with the young children in the nursery. He also had been active in the Kingsville Troop of the Boy Scouts.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, paint ball, four-wheelers and bikes.
Survivors include his mother, Terri, and stepfather, Jeffrey C. Stuyvesant, of Ashtabula Township; two sisters, Amber Daywalt of Cleveland, and Lindi Daywalt of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; a stepsister, Christi Stuyvesant of Cleveland; a stepbrother, Jason Stuyvesant of Ashtabula; paternal grandfather, Raymond Daywalt of Ashtabula; maternal grandparents, Nathan and Beverly Tanner of Kingsville Township and step-grandparents, Charles and LaVerne Stuyvesant of North Kingsville.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1983, and paternal grandmother Jean Daywalt in 2000.
Services is 1 p.m. Monday at Ashtabula First Church of the Nazarene, 1820 S. Ridge Road W., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Michael Legg officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
