Dorothy F. Houston
ASHTABULA - Dorothy F. Houston, 96, of East 46th Street died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at her home.
She was born July 9, 1906 in Ashtabula, the daughter of George and Emily (Austin) Ball and had been a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Houston was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where she was active in the Episcopal Church Women and Church Guild clubs. She was also a member of the American Antique Club.
Mrs. Houston enjoyed traveling, reading, antiques and animals, especially her cat, Robinhood.
She was employed with Ashtabula County for 25 years as a deputy treasurer.
Survivors include her son, Dick Houston of Ashtabula; two grandchildren, Larry Kaufman and Kristen Haines; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Houston in 1984; a daughter, Emily Kaufman; a brother, Gerald Ball; a sister in infancy, Mary Ball; and her parents.
Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4901 Main Ave., with the Mother Barbara Johnson, rector officiating.
Burial will be in the Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m., until time of service Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Road, Kingsville.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Frances G. Weaver
ASHTABULA - Frances G. Weaver, 81, of Ashtabula, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 18, 1921, in East Trumbull, the daughter of August A. and Ida M. (Norton) Janson, and had been a lifelong Ashtabula County resident.
A 1938 graduate of Jefferson Area High school, she was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was a 55-year member of the Jefferson Grange, Ashtabula County Pomona Grange, Ohio State Grange and the National Grange. She also served as 4-H adviser for five years.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry, whom she married Sept. 18, 1949, at Jefferson United Methodist Church; two children, Becky and Gordon; five grandchildren, Chad, Marc, Dane, Bridget and Megan; three brothers, Cloes, Alton and Blair; and two sisters, Margaret and Kathryn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold and Willis.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the deceased's home. The Rev. Meredith Coleman and lay pastor Gordon Emerson, both of Jefferson United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will conducted at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
The Ducro Funeral Services­Jefferson Home, 17 N. Market St., Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Keene
ASHTABULA - Lawrence Keene, 71, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Buchanan County, Va., the son of Noah and Mandy (Evans) Keene. He was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula.
He retired from Pinney Dock and Transport after 30 years as a dock supervisor.
He married Mary Gibson on Feb. 25, 1952.
Mr. Keene enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; seven children, Bobby, Anita Bolen, Alice Peters and June Green, all of Ashtabula, Johnie R., of Shreveport, La., Russell of Greensboro, N.C., and Joe of Collinsville, Va.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Franklin of Ashtabula; and two sisters, Betty Muncy and Mattie Ward of Martinsville, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pentecostal Church of God on Cook Road, Ashtabula, with The Rev. Kenneth Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.

Richard M. Scott
ASHTABULA - Richard Melville Scott, 61, of Ashtabula, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 29, 1940, in Warren, the son of Clifford and Argil (Hollen) Scott, and moved to Ashtabula from Meadville, Pa., in 1966.
Prior to retirement as a maintenance supervisor in 1998, he worked 32 years for Millennium Inorganic Chemicals.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps between 1958 and 1962.
He was an active blood donor and enjoyed camping, golfing, dogs and spending time with his grandchildren and the rest of his family.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jill Edgren, whom he married July 19, 1978; two daughters, Kristen Hackathorn of Great Valley, N.Y., and Debra Johnson of Ashtabula; three grandchildren, Cynthia, and Todd and Emily; and three sisters, Shirley Unger and Hope Scott, both of Jamestown, Pa., and Connie Burt of Hermitage, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard Scott; and a sister, Joan Brocklehurst.
At the deceased's request, a private family service will be held. The Rev. Robert Leonard will officiate. The Marine Corps League, Pvt. Henry Kalinowski, Detachment 782, will conduct military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Ashtabula County, 2420 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, 44004; Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Road, Cleveland, 44106; or the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Road, Ashtabula.

Edith J. Banning
ASHTABULA - Edith J. Banning, 87, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Park Haven Nursing Home, Ashtabula.
Born March 5, 1914, in Johnston, she was a daughter of Cleon and Iva (Morar) Moy.
She married Merle Banning on May 16, 1932, and they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year.
She was a member of the Lake Chapter 10 Ohio, Order of Eastern Star; was active in the Red Cross; was a volunteer at the hospital, was a member of Wayside Garden Club; and was on the board of Smith House.
Mrs. Banning enjoyed ceramics, needlework and cooking.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Merle Jr., of Austinburg Township; a daughter, Shirley Wendt of Saybrook Township; a brother, Calvin Moy of Vienna; four grandchildren, Scott Banning, Kelly Scoville, John Wendt and Matthew Wendt; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Henry Moy; and a sister, Maxine Newman.
Service is 1 p.m.Thursday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Virgil Reeve of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or a charity of choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Antoinette R. Adams
ASHTABULA - Antoinette R. Adams, 78, died Monday at her home.
She was born Jan. 1, 1923, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Pasquale and Marzia (Massucci) Adams.
An Ashtabula High School graduate, she worked for Bell Telephone and Gray Drug Store, which later became Rite Aid until her retirement.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Mauro and Ernestine Rossette of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four sisters, Cecelia Marcella, Josephine Arlesic, Bridget Newman and Lucy McGrath.
Service is 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Evelyn M. Long
ASHTABULA - Evelyn M. Long, 93, died Dec. 14, 2000, in Ashtabula.
She was born March 6, 1907, the daughter of Charles and Carrie (Henrickson) Swanson.
A graduate of Ashtabula High School, she was a nanny for the Mitchell family of Ashtabula and other families in Cleveland.
She enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, serving in England as a sergeant. She became a registered nurse while in service and was a private duty nurse for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles R. Long in 1960; four brothers, Carl G., Joseph, Guy and Reuben Swanson; and a sister, Dagmar Swanson.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. July 31 at Edgewood Cemetery, with the Rev. Ed Pickard officiating. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 943 will conduct military rites at the cemetery.

Laszlo Takacs
ASHTABULA - Laszlo Takacs, 75, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at UHHS Geneva Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 24, 1925, in Kistokaj, Hungary, the son of Louis and Maria (Lipusz) Takacs.
In 1947, upon completion of his higher education, he became an architect and master builder. He received his master's degree in architecture in Hungary.
He moved to Austria in 1956, and three years later came to Ashtabula, where he owned and operated the Laszlo Master Builder Co., until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he enjoyed bee-keeping and reading, especially books on ancient history. He also enjoyed visiting Hungary and his extended family.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, whom he married Oct. 24, 1948; daughters Judith Poluga and Maria Orlando, both of Ashtabula; a son, Laszlo A., of Cleveland; grandchildren Adam, Mia, Nathan, Hope, David and Krystal Poluga, and Michael and Stephen Orlando; sisters Gizella Gyurcsak and Anna Hornyak, both of Hungary, and Kati Buda and Agi Banzer, both of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Danielle M. Poluga, in 1978; a sister, Maria Bobik; and a brother, Dezsoe Takacs.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, with the Rev. Philip Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
