Edward L. Elliott
SUMTER, S.C. - Edward Lee Elliott, 65, of Sumter, S.C., died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Summerville, S.C.
A Baptist, he was born in Mount Hope, W.Va., the son of Joseph F. and Rose Elliott.
Survivors include his mother, of Ashtabula; his wife of 36 years, the former Patricia A. Leach; a brother, Billy Elliott of Minnesota; and two sisters, Peggy Key of Ashtabula, and Darlene Elliott of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Kitty Sue Ball and Betty Lou Taylor.
Service was held at the chapel of Bullock Funeral Home in Summerville. Burial was at Pinewood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind, 100 Executive Center Drive, Columbia, S.C. 29210; the National Kidney Foundation, 5000 Thurman Mall Drive, Columbia, 29210; or to a favorite charity. Bullock Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Arthur A. Koskinen
ASHTABULA - Arthur A. Koskinen, 45, of West 55th Street, Ashtabula, died early Thursday morning, Sept. 26, 2002, at the Carington Park Nursing Home, where he had been a patient the past week.
He was born Dec. 30, 1956, in Geneva, the son of Thomas J. and Nadine (Shott) Koskinen, and had been a lifelong Ashtabula County resident.
He worked several years at Quick Plastics in Jefferson.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his mother, of Jefferson; three children, Kurt Koskinen of Fruitland, Fla., Brittany Koskinen of Ashtabula, and Holly Koskinen of Cincinnati; and two brothers, L.J. Koskinen of Madison, and Thomas E. Koskinen of Salem.
He was preceded in death by his father, in 1987; and a sister, Lisa Mae Koskinen.
Cremation will take place at the Care Group Cremation Center, with burial of ashes at the family's convenience at Oakdale Cemetery.
The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.
Nellie B. Brunell
ASHTABULA - Nellie B. Brunell, 90, of West 15th St., died Friday, May 24, 2002, at the Jefferson Geriatric Nursing Center in Jefferson.
Mrs. Brunell was born Feb. 27, 1912, in Monroe Center, the daughter of Austin P. and Anna B. (Conway) Lewis.
A lifetime area resident, she married Fred W. Brunell on July 10, 1932.
Mrs. Brunell was a 1931 graduate of Johnstown High School, where she was valedictorian of her class.
She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Ashtabula. She enjoyed bingo, sewing, ceramics, cooking, baking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Thomas W. Brunell of Colleyville, Tex.; daughter, Freida A. Caslevich of Ashtabula; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and by a daughter, Carol J. Brunell, in infancy.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Anthony Dusso of the Faith Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial will be in Monroe Township Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Albert F. Peet
ASHTABULA - Albert F. Peet, 79, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in the Hospice Unit of the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Mr. Peet was born Nov. 28, 1922, in Ashtabula, the son of John and Vera (Arkenburg) Peet.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He married Eleanor Urso on Dec. 31, 1943.
Mr. Peet worked for Saybrook True Temper until his retirement in Dec. 1982. In his early years, he operated the Peet Roofing Company with his father and brothers.
He was a lifetime member of the St. Joseph Mission, where he was active with many church functions, especially the M.D.M. Feast. He also was a member of the V.F.W. #943.
He played fast-pitch softball and basketball for many years. He enjoyed working in his garden and playing the harmonica. He was a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians and enjoyed traveling to Jacobs Field. The times he most enjoyed were those spent with his family.
Survivors include two sons, Albert of Ashtabula and Arnold of Geneva; one daughter, Carlene Olsen of Geneva; five grandchildren, Julie Graeb, Matthew Peet, Cara Robson, Catherine Olsen and Patrick Olsen; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard and Averill Peet; and three sisters, Frances Orr, Maxine Laurello and Marie Penna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1995; three brothers, Tony, John Jr. and Ramon; and six sisters, Neta Hurd, Philomena DeMaio, Leatrice Nelson, Antoinette Penna, Gloria Luton and Laura Cello.
Mass will be noon Monday in the St. Joseph Mission, 4317 W. Ave., Ashtabula. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Frederick H. Hurst Sr.
ASHTABULA - Frederick H. Hurst Sr., 74, of Edwards Avenue, Ashtabula, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 4, 1927, in Dorset, the son of Harold and Lucy (Chidester) Hurst, and has been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.
A 1945 graduate of Dorset High School, he served as a military policeman in the Army during World War II.
He married Katharina Mier on Sept. 4, 1948, in Germany.
He was a 40-year employee of Union Carbide/Elkem Corp., retiring in 1988. He was also a homebuilder and did renovations.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, the Cleveland Indians and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Alfred, Gerald and Frederick Hurst Jr., all of Ashtabula, Ingrid LaSalle of Kingsville, and Barbara Burgess of Wooster; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo Hurst of Akron; and a sister, Josie Hatch of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and George Hurst.
Service is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. The Rev. Harlan Nefstead of the Dorset Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Dorset Cemetery, where United War Veterans of Ashtabula County will conduct military services.

Everett F. Carlson
ASHTABULA - Everett F. Carlson, 86, of Thayer Avenue, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the Austinburg Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Saybrook Township, the son of Albert and Selma (Borain) Carlson.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Carlson was awarded the European Theater Ribbon with two Bronze stars, a victory campaign ribbon and the good conduct medal. He served in the Tunisia and Rhineland campaigns in North Africa and Europe.
His memberships included the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 943 in Ashtabula; American Legion Post 103; Ashtabula Eagles lodge; and the Second Congregational Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.
He retired from Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. in 1978 after 33 years.
Survivors include his son, James Childs of Arizona; a daughter, Judy Marrison of Austinburg Township; a brother, Ernest of Geneva-on-the-Lake; two sisters, Helen Gerald of Geneva, and Edith Mossford of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Chad, Malessa, Josh and Candi; three great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Alma Piifpanen of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonita (Jentsch) Carlson, whom he married in 1946; his parents; three brothers, Einar, Carl and Russell; and a great-granddaughter, Aaron.
Service is 1 p.m. Thursday at Burton Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. Jim Onion, assistant to the pastor, of Second Congregational Church, will officiate.

Carl W. Desko
ASHTABULA - Carl W. Desko, 90, of Jefferson Avenue, Ashtabula, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in the hospice unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center following a short illness.
Mr. Desko was born July 17, 1912, in North East, Pa., the son of Peter and Emily (Simpson) Desko. He had been a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County, living in Geneva and Ashtabula.
With his wife, Katherine, he operated Kay's Carry-Out in Geneva for many years. He also was employed for 12 years as a police officer in Geneva.
After retirement, he enjoyed working with his son Bryan, repairing bicycles in his spare time.
Mr. Desko was a member of First Grace Gospel Church, Ashtabula.
Survivors include his daughter, Joanne K. Anderson of Ashtabula; two sons, Bryan D. Desko, also of Ashtabula, and Carl H. Desko of Toledo; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine M., whom he married March 24, 1934, in Ripley, N.Y.; six sisters, Rose Payne, Mary DePasquale, Minnie Verdi, Dorothy Corbissero, Winifred Crump and Amelia Desko; and two brothers, Angelo and Peter Desko.
Service is 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Childs and Williams Family Funeral Home, 1440 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. David J. Adams, pastor of First Grace Gospel Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula Township.
