Walter C. McCafferty
ASHTABULA - Walter C. McCafferty, 74, of Ashtabula, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
He was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Warren, the son of Earl and Ruby (Curfis) McCafferty.
After serving the U.S. Army during World War II, he worked as a butcher in Cherry Valley.
A lifetime resident of Ashtabula County, Mr. McCafferty was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the Geneva and Ashtabula Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations and the Ashtabula Army-Navy Union. He enjoyed watching football.
Survivors include his four daughters, Colleen McCafferty of Columbus, Terry Chadwick and Kathy Hamilton, both of Geneva, and Eileen McCafferty of Perry; three brothers, David E. of West Farmington, Roger E. of Cortland, and Willard C. of Mundfordville, Ky.; five sisters, Margaret Fairchild of Southington, Elsie Weir of Ashtabula, Loise Guest of San Dimas, Calif., Dorothy Owens of Warren, and Audrey Henry of Burghill; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly McCafferty; two sons, Edwin in August 1990, and Walter in infancy; two brothers, William and Theodore McCafferty; and two sisters, Louise Noble and Ruth McCafferty.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at the New Life Assembly of God, 205 W. Liberty St., Geneva. The Rev. Harry Pishcura, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery.
Instead of giving flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at the church.
The Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.
Carl D. Dascoli
ASHTABULA - Carl D. Dascoli, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at the Country Club Retirement Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1914 in Conneaut, the son of John and Ida (Izzi) Dascoli.
Mr. Dascoli graduated from Ashtabula High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Dascoli worked for the former Penny Furniture Company, Brown Furniture and Fortune Wholesale.
Survivors include two sons, Carl Dascoli of Waycross, Ga. and John Dascoli of Olmsted Falls; seven grandchildren, Mark, Adeline, Kate, Carl Jr. and John Dascoli, Jennifer Halloran and Gretchen Ware; five great-grandchildren, three brothers, John Dascoli of Ashtabula, William Dascoli of Ashtabula and Albert Dascoli of Akron; and two sisters, Isabelle Marriotti of Ashtabula and Camille Dapp of Tuyunga, Calif..
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Adeline, and a sister, Caroline Peterangelo.
Service is 10 a.m. Monday, at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the start of the service Monday, both times at the funeral home.
Ronald Townsend
WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. - Ronald Townsend, 59, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at his home. He was born Sept. 20, 1943 in Ashtabula, the son of Merle and June Townsend.
He retired after 25 years from Harris Corp. in Melbourne, Fla.
Survivors include two sons, Kraig A. Townsend of West Melbourne, Fla. and Jason M. Townsend; three sisters, Judith Murphy, Elaine Blayney and Lori Borzello; and two brothers, Robert and Tim Townsend.
Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Riley.
Service is 2 p.m. Saturday, at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, 5950 S. US Highway 1, Rockledge, Fla., 32955.
Calling hours are 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge.

Carl R. Keller
ASHTABULA - Carl Randolph Keller, 57, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at home.
He was born Oct. 18, 1945, in Detroit, Mich., to Carl William and Sharlotte (Overby) Keller.
Mr. Keller graduated from Madison High School and attended Harding University in Searcy, Ark., where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in science.
Mr. Keller married Kathleen Stillinger. He worked 25 years for Elkem and then eight years for Millennium Inorganic Chemicals Plant II as a chemical engineer.
He was a member of West Avenue Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Ashtabula Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and shooting.
Survivors include his father, wife, two sons, Carl Scott of Ashtabula and Clinton Eric of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and a sister, Penny Palfy of Austinburg.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Williams of the West Ave. Church of Christ officiating. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling hours will be Monday, 6-9 p.m. at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions can be made to the West Avenue Church of Christ in Keller's name. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
John M. Thome
ASHTABULA - John "J.T." M. Thome, 54, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the Louis Stokes Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Cleveland.
He was born Jan. 22, 1947, in East Cleveland, the adopted son of Ralph and M. Inez (Lancaster) Thome.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Thome was a member of St. Joseph Church, Ashtabula, and a past member of the American Legion Dewey Howlett Post 103.
He enjoyed watching TV, especially professional wrestling, and being with his friends and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Anne A. (Westlake), whom he married Aug. 18, 1973; a daughter, Melissa A. Thome; a son, Stephen M.; and four grandchildren, Duane Jr., Nathan and Derek Marshall, and Skyler M. Thome, all of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Burial will follow be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
No calling hours will be observed.

Richard D. Wheeler
ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - Richard D. "Ike" Wheeler, 72, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at his home.
He was born June 13, 1929, in Conneaut, the son of Bernie and Eulah (Braden) Wheeler.
Prior to retirement, he worked at Olin Chemical as a pipefitter, and also was employed at Sears and DIY Home Warehouse.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 943.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice (Baker); two sons, Dean Nottingham of Ashtabula, and David Nottingham of Ashtabula; two daughters, Terry Blake of Diamond, and Pamela Mollick of Ashtabula; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mickey of Ashtabula, and Robert of Florida; and a sister, Geraldine Nelson of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Cyrus, Bernie and Edward; and two sisters, Mary Alice Christy and Vera Chaplin.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Lee Freeburn officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Howard Earl Burgard
ASHTABULA - Howard Earl Burgard, 69, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born May 31, 1931, the son of Sam and Mary (Oliver) Burgard, and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a demolition contractor and previously for the Flower Coal Company.
Mr. Burgard was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed playing bingo and pool and performing caring acts for people in the community.
Survivors include his wife, Rose (Rich); two sons, Harry Marrison, Jr., of Fort Myers, Fla., and Donald Marrison of Deltona, Fla.; three daughters, Bess Ernst of Las Vegas, Nev., and Merle Hodges and Pearl Campbell, both of Palm Bay, Fla.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, George Burgard of Michigan; and one sister, Ann Thornton of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Marie Jackson and Jennie Barnum; one brother, Samuel William Burgard; and his parents.
At the request of the family, no services will be held.

Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, will be in charge of arrangements.
