Bessie Shane Cathcart
ASHTABULA ­ Bessie Shane Cathcart, 82, of Willow Arms Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center shortly after being admitted.
She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Miami County, the daughter of Louis A. and Sevilla R. (Davidson) Shane and has been a resident of the Jefferson area since 1979, other than living in Ocala, Fla., from 1985-1995. She previously lived in Cleveland.
Mrs. Cathcart was a 1980 retiree of the General Motors Corp. working there more than 20 years. She was a member of the Brush Creek Christian Church in Fletcher. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Charles Terry Cathcart of Jefferson; five grandchildren, Linda M. Wellinger, Terrence W. Cathcart, James M. Cathcart, Scott N. Cathcart and Jeremiah S. Cathcart; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace S. Boley of Celina and Laura S. Capps of Henderson, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sons, Joseph Alan and Nicky Wayne Cathcart; two brothers, Harley and Carl Shane; and a sister, Elsie Jackson.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Casstown Cemetery in Casstown.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St. Jefferson.

Dorothea Ellen Cedar
SEBRING, Fla. - Dorothea Ellen "Dotty" Cedar, 74, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at her home in Sebring, Fla.
Born in Ashtabula, Ms. Cedar moved to Sebring in 1980, coming from Nigeria, where she was a missionary.
She joined the Sudan Interior Mission April 25, 1952 and worked 28 years in Nigeria as a medical missionary with leprosy patients. She worked locally at S.I.M. Retirement Village for more than 10 years as a nurse caregiver.
She was the first missionary sent from Chapel at University Park in Akron.
She was a member of Bible Fellowship Church in Sebring.
Survivors include one sister, Ruth E. Simmons of Kingsville and several nieces and nephews.
Service is 3 p.m. Thursday at Bible Fellowship Church with the Rev. Eugene Bengston officiating.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sudan Interior Mission Fellowship Hall and 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sudan Interior Mission or Bible Fellowship Building Fund.

Louvenia Carson
ASHTABULA - Louvenia Carson, 79, of Ann Avenue, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at her home.
She was born Dec. 5, 1920, in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Willie Mae (Robinson) Roby, and had lived in the area since 1949.
Prior to retirement, she worked as a cook and nurse's aide at Ashtabula County Nursing Home for many years.
She was a long-time member of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, served on the Mother's Board at Hiawatha Church of God in Christ and was a youth leader involved in 4-H and Girl Scouts.
Survivors include her husband, Napoleon, whom she married in 1950; a son, Michael of Ashtabula; five daughters: Shirley Dyer, Violetta McGee, Darnetta Carson and Denita Fields, all of Ashtabula, and Tari Rodriguez of Erie, Pa.; a step-daughter, Carolyn Meeks of Ashtabula; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Hattie Mae Gordon of Kansas City, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Jennifer Dyer; a great-grandson, Calvin Dyer; and a sister, Ruth Jackson.
Service will be noon Saturday at Pentecostal Church of God, 2201 Cook Road, Ashtabula. David Howard Jr., superintendent of Hiawatha Church of God in Christ, and Herman Fleming, superintendent of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hour at the church is 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.

Lena D. Wayand
ASHTABULA - Lena D. Wayand, 91, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 19, 1909, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Louis and Angelica (Martucci) Liquori.
She worked at the former Box Factory of Ashtabula and Ashtabula Hotel.
Survivors include a son, Joseph of Saybrook; a daughter, Angelica Manweiler of Ashtabula; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; a brother, Louis; and sisters: Angeline Hakundy, Florence Forbes, Fanny Charles and Josephine Giannittini.
Private funeral service will be held at the family's convenience. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.

Richard G. White
ASHTABULA - Richard G. White, 74, of Union Avenue, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Ashtabula, the son of Howard and Grace (Knapp) White.
He was a World War II and Korea veteran, serving with the Navy and Marine Corps.
He retired from the FP&E Railroad as a conductor after many years of service.
He was a long-time member of Saybrook United Methodist Church, and was a member of Madison American Legion Post 112 and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Survivors include his wife, the former Joyce Richards, whom he married Jan. 15, 1953; two sons: Frank of Middletown, Va., and John of Madison; two daughters: Jean Lee of Madison and Barbara Davidson of Geneva; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alberta Skufca; and two brothers, Leroy and Orson White.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 S. Depot Road. The Rev. Donna Van Trees, pastor of Saybrook United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Calling hours at the church are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and noon Friday until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saybrook United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 7900 S. Depot Road, Ashtabula 44004.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Beverly "Jane" Brewer
ASHTABULA - Beverly "Jane" Brewer, 77, of Lake Road West, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at Inn-Conneaut following a lengthy illness.
She was born on October 12, 1925, the daughter of Homer and Pearl (Scott) Bradley and had been a lifelong Ashtabula County resident. She married Nathan L. Brewer on May 18, 1945.
Jane Brewer was employed at Inn Conneaut Health Center from 1980 (and also at Inn Madison from 1985) as House Service Supervisor responsible for Laundry, Custodial, and Dietary Departments. She was a Certified Dietary Manager at both facilities and retired in 1996.
A member of the East Side Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed spending time in her home and loved being with her family.
Her survivors include her son, Rick Brewer (wife Pam) of Ashtabula; two daughters, Becky White (husband Tom) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kathy Platt (husband Ken) of Ashtabula; three grandsons, Jeff Pohl (wife April), James Pohl (wife Darcy), and Eric Brewer; one great-grandson, Matthew Pohl; her sister, Imogene Van Allen of Ashtabula; and many other family members and friends. Jane was truly loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
At her request, a private family service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2003, at the family gravesite in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Geneva.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in her memory be made to the East Side Presbyterian Church, 3440 Edgewood Drive, Ashtabula, OH 44004.
DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.

Nicolaus Pykus
ASHTABULA - Nicolaus Pykus Sr., 79, of South Ridge Road East, Ashtabula, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Zukotyn, Ukraine, the son of William and Marissa Pykus, and had immigrated to the United States in 1949.
An Ashtabula resident since 1950, he worked for Raser Tannery and later as a machine operator for True Temper prior to his retirement. A skilled carpenter and tailor, Mr. Pykus was formerly a member of St. Joseph Church, and he enjoyed gardening and woodcarving.
Survivors include his wife, Anastasia "Nancy" (Piszko), whom he married Nov. 24, 1946; three children, William Pykus of Federal Way, Wash., Maryann Summers of Ashtabula, and Nicolaus Pykus Jr. of Cuyahoga Falls; three grandchildren, Bill Jr., Cassie and Zachary; and three sisters, all of whom live in Europe.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore Pykus, and his parents.
Service is 1 p.m. Thursday at Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Ed Gretchko, of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula.
Calling hour is Thursday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
