ASHTABULA - Betty Lou Moody, age 64, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, in University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Born on Nov. 12, 1942, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to the late John and Laura Brewer Bleshoy, Betty was a graduate of Ashtabula High School in 1960 and the Knoedler School of Practical Nursing.
In 2004, Betty retired from Rae-Ann Nursing Home in Geneva, where she worked as an L.P.N. since 1988.
She enjoyed bingo, casinos, cooking, and was an avid Cleveland sports fan. Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughter.
She is survived by her loving husband, Garry Palmer Moody, whom she married Nov. 18, 1967, in Ashtabula; daughters, Tara (Gabriel) Walker of Andover and Shannon (Harley) Hamilton of Ashtabula; granddaughter, Haley Hamilton; brothers, John (Chris) Bleshoy of Atlanta, Ga., and Larry Bleshoy of Winterhaven, Fla.; sister, Bonnie (Joe) Keefe of New Port Richey, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Mario Duva.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Ducro Funeral Services AND Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. Certified celebrant Rebecca Mahall will officiate.
A time of gathering will be held Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Paul Clifford Jenkins
ASHTABULA - Paul Clifford Jenkins, 80, of Pennsylvania Avenue, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at his home.
He was born April 20, 1920 in Ashtabula, the son of Clifford and Lottie Jenkins and had been an area resident all his life.
Prior to his retirement, he worked over 30 years for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company.
A veteran of U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 943.
Mr. Jenkins enjoyed bowling, camping, traveling, animals and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Eleanor (Lintala); and a son, Dennis of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ed; a sister, Thora Oliver; his stepfather, John Hawes; and his parents.
Prior to entombment, a service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, North Kingsville. The Rev. Anthony Dusoof Faith Lutheran Church will officiate.
No calling hours will be observed.

Helen Bernadette Lininger
ASHTABULA - Helen Bernadette Lininger, 81, of Lambros Lane, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa.
Born March 1, 1919, in Lewiston, Maine, she was a daughter of Joseph and Genevieve (Cormier) Cliché and had been an Ashtabula resident most of her life.
Her survivors include two sons; a daughter; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister.
She was preceded in death by a son; a daughter; a brother; and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Felix T. Sawicki
ASHTABULA - Felix T. "Fritz" Sawicki, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Peru Ill., the son of Anton Joseph and Mary Rose (Liss) Sawicki, and had been an Ashtabula County resident since 1979.
Mr. Sawicki worked for the Interlake Steamship Company as a merchant marine until his retirement in 1988.
A veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps, he served honorably during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965 at the rank of sergeant.
He was a former member of the United Steel Workers, the Loyal Order of the Moose #547, the Army-Navy Union, the V.F.W. Post #4602, DePue, Ill., the American Veterans, LaSalle, Ill., and the Marine Corps League.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, find-a-word puzzles, and listening to music.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Sue (Helsley), whom he married Feb. 15, 1974; three sons, PO2 (SW) Luther L. of Great Lakes, Ill., Staff Sergeant Bradley T. of Okinawa, Japan, and Anton J. of Ashtabula; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Morar of Boardman and Mary Rose Sawicki of Ashtabula; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Theodore M. Sawicki of Spring Valley, Ill.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Al; two sisters, Loretta Sawicki and Phyllis Spayer; and his parents.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Virgil V. Reeve of First Baptist Church will officiate.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A memorial gathering will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ptak Funeral Home, Peru, Ill. Burial will follow in Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley, Ill., where full military rites will be held.

Wanda DeGarmo

ASHTABULA - Wanda M. DeGarmo, age 82, died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, in her home.
She was born on May 23, 1926, in Ashtabula County, the daughter of Earl and Alice (Wortman) Benjamin. A lifetime resident of the Jefferson and Ashtabula areas, she graduated from Jefferson Are High School in 1944.
Retiring in 1990, she worked for over 20 years for the Ashtabula County Welfare Department.
She is survived by her three daughters: Karen Buckley of Solon, Ohio, Kathy (Wayne) Irwin of Sparta, N.J., and Kim Horn of Aurora, Ohio; and three step-children: James DeGarmo Jr. of Texas, Fred (Donna) DeGarmo and Sara “Kathy” DeGarmo, both of Ashtabula. She has four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 33 years, James, who died in 2005; her brother, Delmar Benjamin; and sisters, Vesta Allen and Elma Burgett; as well as her grandsons, David Buzzard and Bert DeGarmo.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28th, at 10 a.m. in the Ashtabula Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Fr. Howard Humphrey, of St. Martins Episcopal Church of Chagrin Falls, officiating.
Calling Hour will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday morning, prior to the service, at the Funeral Home.
Phyllis A. Capuano

Phyllis A. Capuano, 82 of Harmon Rd. Ashtabula passed on to a better life on Friday (Feb. 20th) at the Arlington Court Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Upper Arlington, Ohio. She was born April 25, 1926 in South Hampton England the daughter of Fred and Phyllis (Cooper) Purchase.
Phyllis was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant School for girls at the early age of 15. After graduating High School she went into the service for the United States Government, at the age of 16, in South Hampton England, where she was a Postal Exchange worker. That is where she met the love of her life and married James V. Capuano, Jr. They were married 49 years before he died in August 1994. Phyllis was a 35 year member of Anita Garibaldi Lodge and also an officer. She enjoyed the outdoors, was a member of Flower Clubs and loved gardening. She was especially proud of her Rose Garden. She and her husband loved to play BINGO and she also enjoyed riding horses. Phyllis loved writing letters and sending cards, for every occasion, to everyone she knew. Phyllis helped organize and start the British War Brides, who were all married to Americans during World War II and left England to come to America to wait for their husbands at War’s end. After the war, the British Brides would meet every year for a dinner and party, which Phyllis loved. She was a member of Mt Carmel Church, She was a devote Catholic, who highly respected her religion. She was employed by Carlisle’s Department Store where she retired after 30 years of service and very proud of her career. Out of everything in her later years, she enjoyed her grandchildren’s visits the most.
Surviving her are her four children, Rosalie (David) Ensman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Vincent (Donna) Capuano of Ashtabula, Rebecca (Joseph) Castorano of Columbus and James (Sally) Capuano of Ashtabula; nine grandchildren, Scott Ensman. Eric Ensman, Jason Ensman, Kristi Valenzuella, Jennifer Puffer, Lyndsay Severino, Mathew Baldwin, Vincent Castorano, and Jamealyn Capuano and a Great Grandchild, Ava Valenzuella. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Dorothy Oakes. A mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday (Feb. 24th) at 2:30 PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 East 21st St. Ashtabula with Rev. Father Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday (Feb. 23rd) from 4 to 7 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula.

Robert L. Wright

Robert L. Wright, 70 of Orchard Rd. Ashtabula Twp. died Thursday (Feb. 19th) at the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born May 22, 1938 in Somerset, Pa the son of Mahlon and Mary (Robinette) Wright.
He married Patricia Shaw on January 1, 1983. He was employed with Caterpillar Corporation in Mentor and he retired from the Ashtabula Clinic in 1994 as the building superintendent. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson that he won. He went to 47 out of 50 states on his Harley and also parts of Canada. He enjoyed going to Eddie’s Grill where he met his friends. He was also known as “Mr. Fixit” and he enjoyed working in his workshop and creating things.
Surviving him are his wife; three sons, Robert L. (Troy) Wright, Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., Kenneth (Dawn) Wright of Wewoka, OK, and Mark (Shannon) Swanson of East Springfield, Pa.; two daughters, Lori (Pat) Skettle of Cleveland and Lisa (Stephen) Eppich of Grafton, Oh.; eight grandchildren, Mitchell, Matthew, Brianna, Raeanna, Elliot, Emerson, Clayton and Patricia Mae; four brothers, Ray of York, SC, Roy of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jim of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., John of Norwell, Mass; four sisters, Norma Watkins of Seabring, Florida, Ruth Becker of Crystal, Minn., Helen Dattalo of Minneapolis, Minn, and Janet Price of Waynesboro, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Barbara Ann in infancy and by three brothers, Charles, Paul and George.
Funeral services will be Monday (Feb. 23rd) at 12:00 PM noon at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula, Ohio with Rev. Dr. Stephen Long of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday (Feb. 22nd) from 2 to 4 and 6to8 at the funeral home and on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral Home.
