Nell D. Allds, 78, of Ashtabula Township, died Saturday (April 14th) at the Geneva Village Retirement Center in Geneva, Ohio. She was born November 3, 1933 in Oldtown, Kentucky the daughter of Jess and Hattie (McDowell) Boggs and has been an Ashtabula resident since 1950.
She was a 1952 graduate of Ashtabula High School. She was a Bookkeeper/ Office Manager for Callahan Motors and also for Morrison Radio and Supply.
She was a member of the Ashtabula Business Women’s Association and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #1463 where she served in all the local offices and she had served as President of the Ohio State Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving her is a son William R. (Annette) Allds of Ashtabula; two daughters, Kimberly (Jose) Aponte of Ashtabula and Michelle Allds-Hinkle of Newark, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jamie, Brian, Jessica, Renee, Timothy and Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Ricky, Ohona and Marinah; a sister, Eileen Hall of Indiana and a half brother, Michael Boggs of South Shore, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William W. Allds in 1998; two brothers, Robert and James Boggs; three sisters, Alphonsine McDaniel, Phoebe Castle and Faye Adams and a step-brother, French Cline Hall.
Funeral service will be Tuesday (April 17th) at 8:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Roger Zale officiating. Burial will take place at Ridgeview Cemetery.
Calling hour will be Tuesday from 7:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave. Ashtabula, Ohio.

Flora T. Nelson, age 89, E. 26th St., Ashtabula, died Thursday morning in the emergency room at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
She was born July 6, 1922 in Maniwaki, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Herve’ & Clotilde (Chenier) Dore and has lived in the area since 1948, coning from Cleveland. She was married to Robert M. Nelson on May 22, 1948 in Cleveland at the Enunciation Church.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Mt. Carmel Parish. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed knitting, golf and making special cards for her friends.
Survivors include a son, Victor P. (Margaret) Nelson of Auburn, AL, two grandchildren, Meredith E. (Johnathan Watson) Nelson of Lexington, KY & Gregory C. (Alice) Nelson of Auburn, AL, four great-grandchildren, Riley, Davis, Owen & Liam, a sister, Rita Nichols of Middlefield and a special niece and caretaker, Wendy Kortyta of Conneaut.
Her parents, her husband, Robert and a daughter, Therese Nelson all preceded her in death.
The funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 A. M. at Our Lady of Peace Mt. Carmel Parish, 1200 E. 21st St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday from 9:30-10:30 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Agnes H. Shaw

Agnes H. Shaw, age 96 a long time resident of Ashtabula died Saturday (May 12th) at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. In Kingsville.
She was born May 12, 1916 in Bridgeport, West Virginia the youngest daughter of four children born to George and Stella (Bartlett) Teter. Her family moved to a dairy farm in Jefferson, Ohio when she was just a child of four years.
Agnes married her childhood sweetheart, Herbert Shaw in 1936 and they celebrated 66 years together before Herb’s death in 2003.
She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and active church member of Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church, homemaker especially her wonderful pies and tapioca, and hospital volunteer. Agnes joined the first group of hospital volunteers, Red Cross Gray Ladies in 1959 and was an active member for over 45 years.
Agnes is survived by her daughters, Norita Pahel of Ashtabula and Karen (Tom) Richards of Placentia, Ca. She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren: Ted Shaw, Terry Osowski, Jeff Pahel, Scott Pahel, Jodi (Pahel) Manuel, Trisha (Richards) Vara and Thomas (Krieg) Richards. Her six great-grandchildren are: Melissa, Amanda, Jessi, Marisa, Tyler and Hunter and her three great-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Aric and Gavin and she has many nieces, nephews and friends.
Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herbert Elmer Shaw, daughter, Sue Ann (Shaw) Osowski, Two sisters, Virginia Price and Gertrude Richardson; a brother, Kenneth Teter; two granddaughters, and three great grandsons, Jeremy Pahel, Matthew Osowski and Robbie Manuel.
Funeral service will be Monday (May 21st) at 1:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Pastor Joyce Shellhammer officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hour will be Monday from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Heather R. Knam, age 27, E. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, died unexpectedly Wednesday in Ashtabula Twp.
She was born September 24, 1984 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Gary D. Freeborn & Gail S. Knam and has lived in this area all of her life. She attended Jefferson Area Schools and enjoyed music, walking, going to the beach and video games.
She is survived by a daughter, Gabrielle Knam, her step-mother, Rose Freeborn of Ashtabula, her grandfather, Howard Knam of Logan, WV, a special cousin, Mary Almonte of Ashtabula and five aunts and uncles, Sandy Ensell of Ashtabula, Karen Starcher of Jefferson, Joanne Osborne of Kingsville, Timothy Knam of Jefferson & Robert “Skip” Freeborn of Ashtabula.
Her parents, Gary & Gail preceded her in death.

Mary F McMorris

Mary Frances Lester McMorris died in Melbourne, Florida, on March 17, 2012. The cause of death was simply old age; Mary was 99 years and 4 months old, having been born November 10, 1910. Mary was a long time resident of Ashtabula until 1980, when she and her husband, James T. McMorris, moved to Baltimore, MD, to be closer to their daughter, Deborah. In Baltimore, they bought a $1.00 house, which was theirs for the responsibility to restore the building. The house was on Stirling Street in the Baltimore Historical Area, and restored to perfection.
In Ashtabula, Mary and Jim lived on 5th Street in the Harbor for many decades and then moved to a home they constructed on Lake Road West. During Mary’s life in Ashtabula, after raising daughter, Deborah, she operated a beauty shop out of her home. Husband Jim, was associated with McMorris Dairy, which dairy provided milk and creamery products to many Ashtabula homes. Mary was very active in the Lake Avenue Methodist Church and continued her activity after the move to Baltimore. She was a dedicated Christian.
Mary was predeceased by Jim and later, in 1990, by Deborah. She leaves as survivors on her side of the family, her sister, Virginia Malloy of Indianapolis, IN, and brother, James Lester of Melbourne, FL, niece, Pat Sickafoose and her husband, Allen, and nephews, Dennis Malloy and John Lester. On her married side of the family, she leaves nephews, Tim and Tom Brown, sons of Arthelia McMorris Brown, nieces, Barbara Nieminen and Carol Phillips, daughters of Margaret McMorris Taano, and a niece, Judy McKnight, and nephew, Jim McMorris, daughter and son of Walter McMorris.
A memorial service and burial will be at Edgewood Cemetery in Ashtabula on May 11th, at 10:00 o’clock A.M. with Rev. Shane Nanney of the East Side Presbyterian Church officiating. The Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Chips Johnston Sr.

Richard “Chips” Johnston, Sr., 75, of Lake Ave., Ashtabula, died Saturday (April 28th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born May 15, 1936 in Ashtabula the son of Albert and Sylvia Johnston and has been a life time area resident.
He served in the United States Army. He was employed at A & B Dock in Ashtabula and had also managed ABC Lanes in Ashtabula.
He is a member of the East Ashtabula Club; Northend Club; Young Men’s Social Club; VFW Post 934; American Legion Post !03 and the Army – Navy Union. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving him are eight children, Richard (Cindy) Johnston, Jr. of Ashtabula, Lorraine Brazil of North Carolina, Keith (Anita) Johnston of Ashtabula, Cheryl (William) Perkins of Geneva, Mark (Carla Rose) Johnston of Ashtabula, Pebbles (Daniel) Johnston of Ashtabula, Christopher Brazil of Ashtabula, and Samantha (William Brockway) Brazil of Ashtabula, eighteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Judy) Johnston of Florida and a sister, Janice (Roger) Berg of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy in 1996 and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be Wednesday (May 2nd) at 11:00 AM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula . Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 103.
Calling hours will be Tuesday (May 1st) from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
David A. Larson
May 16, 1970 - April 26, 2012
David A. Larson, age 41, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 in a house fire at his residence on St. Rt. 167 West in Pierpont Twp.
He was born May 16, 1970 in Ashtabula, the son of Eric R. and Rena C. (Jacob) Larson and other than living in Seattle, WA for 10 years has spent most of his life in this area. He was a graduate of Jefferson Area High School and Ashtabula Co. Vocational School.
David enjoyed playing his guitar for hours, listening to music, was a super hero fan and a movie buff.
He is survived by his mother, Rena C. Klock, three children, Dalton, Danielle & Alenna, his grandmother, Eleanor Jacob and a brother and two sisters, Christopher Larson, Christine Larson & Tracey Foote. His father, Eric preceded him in death in December of 2011.
No services or calling hours will be held at this time. A celebration gathering will be held at a later date.
