Margaret S. Laird, 88, of North Bend Rd., Ashtabula, died Thursday (April 26th) in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born September 26, 1923 in Dundee, Scotland the daughter of Alex and Ann (Cramond) Robertson.
She had been employed with Howard Johnson’s in the payroll department in Geneva until her retirement.
She is a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula. She enjoyed knitting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving her are two daughters, Patricia (Davy) Stowers of Englewood, Ohio and Ruth (Dennis) Hathy of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Katherine Oberlander, James Stowers, Julie Luoma and Andrew Hathy; great grandchildren, Jenna Morgan Stowers, Dru Elizabeth Hathy, Jonathon Lord, Jack Luoma, Emily Hathy, Ryan Stowers, Rachel Oberlander, Maggie Luoma and Emma Oberlander; a sister, Aileen Kennedy of Scotland and a brother, Graeme Robertson of Scotland. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John D. Laird in 2003; two brothers, Bruce and Alex Robertson and two sisters, Jean Macphee and Edith Smith.
Funeral service will be Monday (April 30th) at 11:00 at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Quincy Worthington of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.
Calling hour will be Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave. Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cho and the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at 2 South and the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula County Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave their mother.

Charles A. Meister
October 22, 1921 - April 25, 2012
Services: April 28th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Charles A. Meister, age 90, of Ashtabula, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born October 22, 1921 in Ashtabula the son of the late Charles and Clare (Kennedy) Meister. On June 16, 1946 Charles A. Meister married Gwen Anderson. God blessed their marriage with six children.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp during World War II
Charles was employed as a manager with J.C. Penney for forty years working and opening new stores in Battle Creek, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Babylon, Long Island, NY; Erie, PA; Grand Blanc, MI; Wilkes-Barre, PA and Ashtabula, OH. He attended the University of Cincinnati, was a Rotarian and was also active in Jr. Achievement from 1977-1981 where he was proud to have developed a snow shovel made out of locally produced titanium. Charles enjoyed gardening, yard work and loved to play the card game UNO. He was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gwen (Anderson) Meister; children: Charles (Marilyn) Meister, John (Susan) Meister, Char Roland, Jennifer Meister, Craig (Shelley) Meister and Christine (Ian) Kinney; grandchildren: Jorgen (Amanda), Kelsey, Lyndy, Wednesday (deceased), Lee (Mariette), Kyle, Evan and Griffin; great-grandchildren: Abigail and Zachary; sister: Norma Jo (“Jules”, deceased) Eitington.
Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Saturday, April 28, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 4317 Park Avenue in Ashtabula with the Dr. Rev. Stephen Long officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday morning at the church from 10:00am until the time of service. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation Fund, 4317 Park Avenue, Ashtabula, OH 44004. Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, Ashtabula Home is in charge of arrangements.

Anthony Mongenel
July 29, 1956 - June 20, 2012
Services: June 23rd, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Anthony Mongenel, 55, of East 16th St., Ashtabula, died unexpectedly Wednesday (June 20th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born July 29, 1956 in Ashtabula the son of Fred and Angeline (Cash) Mongenel, Sr. and has been a lifetime area resident.
He was a 1975 graduate of Harbor High School and was employed at the Ashtabula County Medical Center in Environmental Services.
He was a fun loving guy, who was a jokester. He loved watching the garden grow and was an expert at catching tomato worms. The thing he loved most was his grandchildren and spending time with his family.
Surviving him are his wife, Tami (Lewis) Mongenel whom he married August 14, 1976; a son, Chad (Kerri) Mongenel of Conneaut; two daughters, Kari (Ben) Dubsky of Geneva and Tami (Fred) Paneto of Conneaut; his grandchildren, Austin, Jordyn, Justine and Heather Paneto; Grace and Cooper Dubsky and his soon to be grandson, Alexander Mongenel; two brothers, Eugene (Diane) Mongenel of Austinburg and Fred (Susan) Mongenel, Jr. of Jefferson; three sisters, Fredericka Horvath of Painesville, Rose (Gary) Niccole of California and Jean Self of Ashtabula and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Steve; his sister, Sara in infancy and by his brother-in-law, Tom Horvath.
Funeral service will be Saturday (June 23rd) at 1:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Dr. Stephen Long of The First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will take place later at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

M. Jean Friedrich
November 19, 1924 - June 17, 2012

M. Jean Friedrich, 87, of East 21st St., Ashtabula, died Sunday (June 17th) at Saybrook Landing in Saybrook Township, Ohio. She was born November 19, 1924 in Ashtabula the daughter of Ralph R and Margaret E. (Schaefer) Peak and has been a lifetime area resident.
She retired in 1982 from Reliance Electric where she had been a Payroll Clerk. She is a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Reliance Retirees Club. She enjoyed dancing, swimming, reading, crocheting; traveling both camping and overseas. She had spent winters in Arizona.
Surviving her is a daughter, Susan J. Steiner of Ashtabula; a son, Mark J. Steiner of North Olmstead; two grandchildren April (Mike) Tarescavage and Seth Steiner; a great-granddaughter, McKayla Tarescavage; a step son, Paul Friedrich of Bellve, Washington and a sister, Donna (Walter) Kapudjija of Ashtabula. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Steiner in 1955 and her second husband, Earl W. Friedrich in 2004 and a nephew, David O. Garvin.
Funeral service will be Wednesday (June 20th) at 11:00 AM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Michael Meranda of Messiah Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Township Cemetery.
Calling hour will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 615 West Prospect Rd. Edna C Morse
December 22, 1912 - June 1, 2012
Services: June 6th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Edna C. Morse, 99, formerly of Ashtabula, died peacefully on Friday (June 1st) at Starkey Place in Painesville. Edna was born December 22, 1912 in Ashtabula the daughter of Emil H. and Signe (Benson) Jepson and has been a lifetime area resident.
She was the loving wife of Donald V. Morse whom she married on September 20, 1936. Don preceded her in death in 2001 at the age of 93. They were lifelong members of the First Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula.
Edna was a working partner with Don in his service station and bulk plant enterprises and the prime shaper of raising three boys. He family was avid fans of her pies and filled cookies. She truly enjoyed listening to polka music.
Edna loved visiting with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed working with the women of the church.
Edna is survived by her three sons, David Morse of Mentor-on-the-Lake, James (Irene) Morse of Painesville and Charles (Sue) Morse of Ashtabula. She also leaves her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Patty) Morse, Pamela (William) Hosmer, Jennifer (Robert) Davis, Tracie (John) Patton and Todd (Fran) Morse; sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; a son, Keith; a grand-daughter, Kellie and by three brothers, Emil, Warren and Kenneth Jepson.
Funeral service will be Wednesday (June 6th) at 11:00 AM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Dr. Stephen Long officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Ashtabula.
Calling hour will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula or to the Ashtabula Lion’s Club.

Julius Rucker
September 23, 1933 - May 19, 2012
Services: June 1st, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Julius Rucker, 78, of West Ave., Ashtabula, died Saturday (May 19th) at Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born September 23, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of Frank and Mary Rucker.
He has lived in the same nursing facility now Carington Park, Ashtabula since the mid 1970’s
Although hampered by multiple disabilities including limited verbalization ability, he always seemed happy. Julius enjoyed spending time with others ; Carington Park activities and outings; and a special “hand-play” interaction with his caregivers. His greatest “love” was riding in the yellow bus to Ashcraft where he participated in their Senior Program.
A memorial service will be held Friday (June 1st) at 1:00 PM at the Carington Park Nursing Home 2217 West Ave. Ashtabula, Ohio.

Mary E. Knerr
August 22, 1928 - September 5, 2012
Services: September 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Mary E. Knerr, 84 of Aberdeen Ave., Ashtabula, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday (Sept. 5th) at the Country Club Retirement Campus. She was born August 22, 1928 in Ashtabula the daughter of Milkus and Mary Manyo and has been a lifetime area resident.
She was a 1946 graduate of Ashtabula High School. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. She loved to cook and enjoyed being surrounded by her family.
Surviving her is her husband, Rex J. Knerr whom she married Nov. 27, 1948; a son, Robert Knerr of Ashtabula; three daughters, Cynthia (Douglas) Atwell of Ashtabula; Diane (Phil) Mier of Columbus and Laura McCormack of Ashtabula; five grandchildren, Melinda, Amber, Matthew, Joshua and Janell; four sisters, Betty Varkett of Ashtabula, Charlotte Fasula of Florida, Margaret Manyo and Carol Manyo of Ashtabula and one brother, Joseph Manyo of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and by four brothers, Nicholas, Emery, Ernie and John Manyo.
A mass of Christian burial will be Monday (Sept. 10th) at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace Parish the St. St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Ave. Ashtabula, Ohio with Rev. Father Ernesto Rodriquez officiating.
Calling hour will be Monday (Sept. 10th) from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula.
In lieu of flowers memorials contributions can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
