Dorothy A. Crowell, 90, of Hiram Ave., Ashtabula, died Thursday (August 23rd) at the Country Club Retirement Campus. She was born September 1, 1921 in Hamilton, Ohio the daughter of Frederick and Helen (Devine) Ruhl and moved to Ashtabula during her High School years.
She was a graduate of Ashtabula High School and attended Business College in Ashtabula before starting her career with Carlisle’s Department Store. She started out as a secretary but in seven years moved up to advertising manager and started the store’s first personnel department. She retired from Carlisle’s in 1986 where she held the position of Corporate Sales and Promotion Director.
Following retirement she stayed active in Civic organizations especially the Ashtabula Art Center. She was a self taught painter and has shown some of her works at the Ashtabula Art Center and the Conneaut Art Guild. She had also played in three bridge clubs. She also enjoyed traveling and has visited Spain, Italy, Russia and England. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
Surviving her are four children, William (Michele) Crowell of Cleveland, Martin (Mary) Crowell of Indianapolis, Diane (Greg) Catrambone of Huntingtown, Maryland and Steve (Sara Hake) Crowell of South Bend, Indiana; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William in 1980 and by two sisters, Virginia Stapleton and Jane Crowell.
A funeral service will be Monday (August 27th) at 12:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula, Ohio with Rev. Meredith Coleman of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place later at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ashtabula.
Calling hour will be Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Reginal W. Shelby, MD

Reginald W. Shelby, M.D., 92, of South Ridge Rd. East, Ashtabula Township, died Sunday, August 19th) at his home. He was born August 6, 1920 in Memphis, Tennessee the son of Charles Henry and Grace Hortense (Irving) Shelby, M.D. and has been an area resident since 1958.
He was a 1936 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis; and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Lemoyne-Owen College in Memphis in 1940. He then served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific. Following the service he graduated from Meharry Medical College in Nashville in 1950 and did his Post graduate training in surgery in New York City Hospitals and one year of Post Graduate at New York University in New York City.
He was a former Chief of Staff at Ashtabula General Hospital and former Chief of Surgery at Ashtabula General Hospital; a member of the Ohio State, National and Ashtabula County Medical Associations; the Pan American Medical Association; the International College of Surgeons; the American Board of Surgery. He is listed in the Who’s Who among Black Americans. He was very active in Community activities as Head Physician in the Ashtabula County Health Department; a member of the Metropolitan Housing Board; an active member of the NAACP; a board member and founder of the Commercial Bank and had also been team Doctor for the Edgewood Schools. He enjoyed yard work and playing golf in his spare time.
Surviving him are his son Reginald W. (Desi) Shelby, Jr. of Poughkeepsie, New York; a daughter, Kathryn Shelby with whom he made his home; and three grandchildren, Markese Shelby, Nicole Rodriguez and Alvin Rodriguez II, He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jessie “Jay” Shelby in 1998; two brothers, Charles H. Shelby, Jr. and Ernest Irving and by a sister, Mildred Jordan.
Funeral service will be Friday (August 24th) at 1:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Elder David Howard, Jr. of the Hiawatha Church of God in Christ and Elder Emory Moore of the New Hope Church officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.

Stanley K. Teresk

Stanley K. Teresk, 96, of Southlane Dr., Ashtabula, died Wednesday (August 15th) at his home. He was born April 12, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of Joseph and Katherine (Szezygiel) Tereskiewicz and has been a lifetime area resident.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a Gunners Mate Third Class. He was employed with Childs Motors in Ashtabula and then for Nassief Pontiac and Cadillac retiring in 1981.
He is a member of St. Joseph Calascanctius Church in Jefferson and Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mt. Carmel Church in Ashtabula. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and yard work.
Surviving him are his wife, Etta Teresk whom he married August 11, 2001; five step children, Cindy M. Cosner of Conneaut Lake, Pa, Michael L. Crislip of Ashtabula, David E. (Cathy) Crislip of Ashtabula, Janine M. (Cecil) Kirby of Dorset and Christine M. (Ted) Morus of Greenville, Pa.; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three sisters, Frances Golon of Jefferson, Lottie Newkirk of Ashtabula and Betty Stall of Willoughby. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lottie and infant; his second wife, Irene in 1996; a step-son, Mark A. Crislip; three brothers, Tony, Walter and Edward Teresk and two sisters, Ann Teresk and Sophie Teresk.
A mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 20th at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 East Jefferson St. Jefferson, Ohio with Rev. Father Charles Poore officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.

Virginia B. Wetherbee, 80, of State Rd., Ashtabula, died Monday (August 26th) at her home. She was born April 14, 1933 at Rays Corners in Lenox Township the daughter of Marion and Gertrude O’Dell (Gray) Chapin.
She was a Life Member of the VFW Posy #943 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid football fan of The Ohio State University and the Cleveland Browns. She enjoyed NASCAR racing especially Jeff Gordon. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, camping, her birds but especially her family and grandchildren.
Surviving her are two sons, Douglas and Ronald Wetherbee of Ashtabula; three daughters, Debra Hoback of Conneaut, Robin (Lawrence) Wetherbee Hartmann of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ronda (Tom) Augustine of Ashtabula; thirteen grandchildren;; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great – grandchild on the way; a brother, Cecil (Nancy) Chapin of Englewood, Florida and two sisters, Judith Boswell of Bonifay, Florida and Jeanette (Lenny) Loken of Tucson, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William in 1994.
Funeral service will be Friday (August 30th) at 12:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Shane Nanney of the East Side Presbyterian Church officiating. Entombment will be in GreenLawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

Frances L. Willey, 85, of Ashtabula Harbor, died Sunday (August 11th) at Silver Sands in Ashtabula. She was born September 15, 1927 in Pine Grove, West Virginia the daughter of Frank and Kitty Headley.
She had graduated from Pine Grove High School. She had been employed by the True Temper in Saybrook Township and Carlisle’s warehouse in Ashtabula.
She had been a long time member of the Lake Ave. United Methodist Church and had attended the Second Congregational Church of Ashtabula. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s; the Y Wives and the Redbrook Boat Club. She enjoyed line dancing, sewing, gardening and she was a dog lover and loved taking care of the wild animals and birds.
Surviving her are two daughters, Crena (Martin) Lewis of Palestine, Texas and Nancy Willey of Ashtabula; two grandchildren, David Baker and Siobhan U Valle; two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Azucena and thirteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbert Willey in 2010; three sisters, Doris Ash, Nell Parkinson, Betty Jean Studer and a brother, William Headley.
A memorial service will be Saturday (August 31st) 11:00 AM at the Second Congregational Church, 319 Lake Ave. Ashtabula with Rev. Enrique DeJusus officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens. In North Kingsville.

R. Jacob Sposito

R. Jacob Sposito, 36, of Walnut Blvd., died Sunday (August 18th) in the Hospice Unit of the Ashtabula County Medical Center after a courageous nineteen month battle with brain cancer. He was born January 21, 1977 in Ashtabula the son of Robert D. and Margaret (Madar) Sposito and has been a lifetime area resident.
He was a graduate of Ashtabula Harbor High School and received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts, Cum Laude from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred, New York. Jake owned and operated the Harbor Perk Coffee House and Roasting Company on Bridge Street in Ashtabula.
He worked hard and enjoyed the revitalization of Bridge Street in the Ashtabula Harbor. He also enjoyed his garden and hiking.
Surviving him are his parents of Ashtabula; his wife Kelly (Christopher) Sposito who he married September 6, 2003; his son Niko Sposito; his maternal grandmother, Malvina Madar of Ashtabula; a brother, Ryan Sposito and a sister, Lauren (Jason) Gloekler both of Ashtabula. He was preceded in death by his Paternal grandparents, John and Ann Sposito; Maternal grandfather, Paul E. Madar and his Aunt, Patricia Sposito.
A memorial service will be held Thursday (August 22nd) at 2:00 PM in the yard overlooking the Lake of Ren and Toni Carlisle’s, 4005 Edgewater Dr. Ashtabula with Ven. Shih Ying-Fa, Abbot of CloudWater Zendo of Cleveland officiating. Parking and shuttle service available from northeast corner of Kent State University Ashtabula parking lot.
Following the memorial service a celebration of Jake’s life will be at observed at the home of Ren & Toni Carlisle until 6:00 PM. Gerald J. "Buff" Bordeaux
ASHTABULA - Gerald J. "Buff" Bordeaux, 66, of Ashtabula, died Tuesday, October 21, 2003, thursday_Obit_Bordeaux_eps at his residence.
He was born on June 11, 1937, in Ashtabula, the son of Besmer and Mary (Church) Bordeaux.
Buff was a 1955 graduate of Harbor High School. He retired from SCM/Millennium Company in 1998.
Buff was a former member of the Ohio National Guard, receiving his honorable discharge in 1966. He was a member of Company "A, " 1st Battalion, 137th Armored Division, and a former member of the Northend Club.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Seaman); a son, Robert of Broadview Heights; two daughters, Renee Overway of Ashtabula, and Sally; three brothers, James, Thomas, and David; a sister, Sarajean Greenly of Ashtabula; two granddaughters, Brittany and Amber; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2003, at POTTI LAKESIDE FUNERAL HOME, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula. Reverend John Jones of Lighthouse Baptist Church will officiate. Burial is in Greenlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in North Kingsville.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today, October 23, 2003, at the funeral home.
