Rev. Cherilyn “Sherry” S. Calvert, age 51, of Norwalk, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, September 19, 2006 Due to injuries sustained in an auto accident.
She was born April 11, 1955 in Warren, OH. She was an intern from 1975 until 1980 and an ordained minister since 1980 with the Salvation Army and was the Director and Corp Commanding Officer in Norwalk from 1981 until 1987; Caseworker for Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services; Chaplain and Social Worker with Stein Hospice and most recently Heartland Hospice; and Bereavement Coordinator at the Evans Funeral Home. She was an active member with the New London Alliance Church, Norwalk Lions Club, and enjoyed cooking and baking. She was also an avid sports fan and watched the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Verena and Robert Wilhide of Champion Township; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Sue Calvert of Champion Township; and nephews, Fred and Jason Calvert,
She was preceded in death by her Father, Fred L. Calvert on July 19, 2005.
Friends may call on Thursday from 5 – 9 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Howard D. John E. Gelvin

John Edward Gelvin, age 86, of Venice, Florida and formerly of Norwalk, died Wednesday afternoon, September 20, 2006 in Venice, FL.
He was born March 14, 1920 in Batesville, Indiana. He was a graduate of Batesville High School, Batesville, IN; attended Harvard University and was a Graduate of DePauw University, Greencastle, IN. He served in the US Navy as a Lt. and pilot in the Pacific Theater
Mr. Gelvin worked with Batesville Casket Co. for 37 years, working in the state of Ohio until retiring in 1988. He earned the distinction as a charter member of the Batesville Casket Company Masters Club. He served as a Director, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Citizens National Bank in Norwalk. Director of Norwalk Community Development Corp. and was a charter member of the Norwalk Rotary Club.
Mr. Gelvin was a member of the Jacaranda Country Club, the Venice Yacht Club, the Venice Golf and Country Club and Plumbrook Country Club in Sandusky. He was active in the Christ United Methodist Church, Venice, FL and the First United Methodist Church, Norwalk.
He is survived by his fiancé, Jeanne M. Booth of Venice, FL; daughters-in-law, Deborah Gelvin and Nancy Gelvin, both of Norwalk; granddaughter, Heather E (Scott) Womack of Austin, Texas; grandsons, Andrew J (Faith) Gelvin of Taos, New Mexico and Brady J. Gelvin of Norwalk.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; and sons, William J Gelvin II and John E “Jake” Gelvin.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 – 8 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. The body will lie in state Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 60 W. Main Street, Norwalk. The Rev. Roger E. Smith will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors at Milan Cemetery.

Charlene E. (Finch) Campbell

Charlene E. (Finch) Campbell, age 90, of Norwalk, died Friday evening, September 29, 2006 at Norwalk Memorial Home after a brief illness.
She was born September 2, 1916 in Pioneer, Ohio. She was a 1934 graduate of Norwalk High School and lived most of her life in the Norwalk area. She was a 1938 graduate of the Providence School of Nursing and was employed by the former Providence Hospital in Sandusky for 19 years. She was also a supervisor and filing clerk for many years at Norwalk Truck Lines.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter No. 15 of the Eastern Star, and First Presbyterian Church in Norwalk.
She is survived by her three step-daughters, Constance (Harve) Sprafka of Knoxville, IA, Kathi (Russ) Flew of Norwalk, and Kelly (Christopher) Tarkenton of Poquoson, VA; two step-sons, Douglas Campbell, PhD. of Morristown, NJ and David Campbell of Australia; 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Edward Meacer in 1972; 2nd husband, Murton Campbell in 1994; parents, Charles and Clara (Espen) Finch; brothers, Charles “Poke” Finch, Harold “Heini” Finch, Thomas Finch and Mike Finch; sisters, Lenna Finch, Allene Lamb and Peggy Finch in infancy.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2006, 11:00 AM, at Riverside Cemetery in Monroeville. The Rev. Adrian Doll will officiate.

Mary Staley Wells
September 29, 2006
Mary Staley Wells, age 46, of Milan, went to be with the Lord, Friday evening, September 29, 2006 at Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk after a brief illness.
She was born August 21, 1960 in Norwalk, OH and lived most of her life in the Norwalk and Sandusky areas. She attended Sandusky High School and was an active volunteer for one year at Providence Care Center in Sandusky and for many years in various nursing centers.
Mary loved playing bingo, working puzzles, reading books, working with children and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her two sisters, Karen S. Canter of Sandusky and Michelle (Steve) Signs of Norwalk; four brothers, Leroy (Millie) Staley of Norwalk, Donald (Grace) Staley of Norwalk, John (Gina) Staley of Norwalk, Andy (Reneé) Staley of Norwalk; nieces, Paige Black and Natalie Black and nephews, Donavon Cole and Wayne Baum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Hazel Staley and three infant daughters.
Friends may call on Monday from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Pastor Len Goodwin will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Ben F. Compton

Benjamin “Ben” Forest Compton, age 70, of Norwalk, died Tuesday, October 03, 2006 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, after a brief illness.
He was born May 2, 1936 in Louisa, Kentucky and was a 1954 graduate of Louisa High School where he was active in all sports. He assisted his father for many years with a newsstand business. He was a dispatcher with the Louisa, KY police department and also transported cars for an automotive dealership.
He is survived by his aunt, S. Hazel Wallace of Norwalk; nieces, Patty Bryant and Sharon Blankenship, both of Norwalk.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Louise (Lowe) Compton on March 27, 2005; parents, Ernest L. and Ethel Compton.
At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery.

A. Irene Kiser

A. Irene (Gerstenberger) Kiser, age 81, of Norwalk, died Sunday, October 08, 2006 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Hospital.
She was born November 4, 1924 in Republic, Ohio, where she helped raise her brothers and sisters. She also helped her father farm and milk cows. She then married and moved to Georgia after her husband, Carroll Kiser, was drafted. Then moved back to Ohio in 1945, and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont and joined its choir. When her husband returned back from the Army, she moved to Norwalk in 1950 and joined St. Peter Lutheran Church and became active in its choir, and became president of the church women. In 1957 she worked at Fanny Farmers and retired after 28 years. She was also a volunteer at Fisher-Titus Medical Center for many years, serving as president of the Ladies Auxiliary for three years.
She enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking, gardening and growing flowers, especially roses.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne (Ellen) Kiser and Jerry (Naomi Gaston) Kiser, both of Norwalk and Carl (Kathy) Kiser of Uniontown; seven grandchildren and eight step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and 15 step great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles (Ruth) Gerstenberger of Fremont, Dorsey (Alice) Gerstenberger of Collins; sisters-in-law, Alice Gerstenberger of Norwalk and Norma Wright of Elyria; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll E. Kiser in 2005; brothers, Paul and Carl “Bud” Gerstenberger; parents, Carl and Clemmie (McConnell) Gerstenberger; step-mother, Sarah Gerstenberger.

Frederick Borda Jr

Frederick C. Borda III, age 53, of Norwalk, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 7, 2006 at his residence.
He was born April 2, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA and was a graduate of Lansdowne High School in Lansdowne, PA. He served in the US Coast Guard and lived in Milan, Monroeville and Norwalk. He worked at Radio Shack in Lorain and in Norwalk, and enjoyed computers and electronics.
He is survived by his father, Frederick C. Borda Jr. of Aldan, PA; sons, Curtis and Ian Borda; sister, Patricia A. Comey; mother of his children, Mary Borda and former wife, Barbara Borda.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel (Whiddon) Borda in 2006.
There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron.

Lenard M. Mundy

Lenard M. Mundy, age 72, of Norwalk, died Friday, October 13, 2006 at his residence in Norwalk, after a brief illness.
He was born April 5, 1934 in Norwalk and attended Norwalk High School. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid horse and dog racer in his earlier years. He was a member of the Coon Hunter’s Association, Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association, and was an auctioneer for many years. He retired from M.A. Hanna Color in Norwalk in 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. (Baker) Mundy of Norwalk; son, Paul M. Mundy of Kansas, OH; daughter, Sarah Mundy of Norwalk; sister, Sally Warren of Norwalk; two granddaughters and four great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lena (Morrison) Mundy; brothers, Samuel in 1997, Donald, James and George in 1924; daughter, Victoria Lynn Mundy in 1955; and a great-grandson, Cory Mundy.

Daniel J. Loyer

Daniel J. Loyer, age 50, of Collins, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, October 24, 2006 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
He was born July 4, 1956 and was a life long area resident. He was a 1974 graduate of Western Reserve High School, Collins and a 1990 graduate from Kent State University and received a Bachelors in Business Administration.
In 1983, he became a quadriplegic after a swimming pool accident. He started his own business, Loyer’s Lawncare Services Inc, which he operated for more than 10 years, and was an office manager for BJ Home, Inc. where he managed over 30 employees. He worked with The Arc of Ohio Choices project and Easter Seals, helping people out of nursing homes. He was active with the Olmstead Task Force, which was working with people with disabilities, and with the DD Council in CAC. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cards, taking business trips all over the country, and was an avid sponsor of community sporting events. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Norwalk.
He is survived by his brothers, Thomas, Bernard and Michael Loyer; sisters, Renee Whitney and Maria Hackathorn; special niece, Alicia Whitney and other numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard J. Loyer Sr. and Carmella (Grizzanti) Loyer; and a brother, Steven Loyer.

Irma R. Schild

Irma R. (White) Schild, age 89, of Monroeville and formerly Norwalk, died peacefully Friday, November 17, 2006 with her family beside her.
She was born August 30, 1917 in Erie County to Lewis and Natalie White. Irma was a 1936 graduate of Norwalk High School. After graduation, she began her retail career at Woolworth’s in downtown Norwalk. She married George Schild on January 27, 1943 during World War II. After the war, she and George started Schild’s Food Town in Monroeville. Nine years later, they relocated to Norwalk and opened Schild’s IGA Foodliner. Irma was an active partner in the business and retired at about age 80.
She enjoyed spending time with family and entertaining guests at their home. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Norwalk. She was an avid sport fan of the Cleveland Browns, Notre Dame and Ohio State and especially the Monroeville Eagles and her grandson’s St. Paul Flyers. Irma enjoyed harness horse racing, golf and playing cards. She and her husband, George, would spend winters in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, George Schild; son and daughter-in-law, David and Marian Braun Schild of Norwalk; two grandsons, Andrew and Matthew; brother and sister-in-law, Harley and Mary White of Huron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Natalie White, brother Richard White and sister Leah Kierns.

Sylvia Louise Dendinger, age 98, of Norwalk, died Friday evening, November 17, 2006 at Gaymont Nursing Center in Norwalk.
She was born August 24, 1908 in North Fairfield. She lived in Sandusky for many years and moved to Norwalk in 1975. She enjoyed spending time with her family and being a homemaker.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Ruth McLaughlin of Bedford, Joyce Lombardo of Norwalk and Rachel Hoyt of Norwalk; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dendinger, whom she married June 12, 1937; son, Malcolm Dendinger; brothers, Thor and Ray McLaughlin; and a sister, Janice Miller; parents, Ross and Carrie (Walters) McLaughlin.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. in the chapel of Meadow Green Memorial Park, 2700 Bogart Road, Huron, OH.

John R. Tinkham

John R. Tinkham, age 69, of Collins, died Saturday evening, November 18, 2006 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 5, 1937 in Zanesville, Ohio and graduated from Philo High School. He served in the US Marine Corps and it’s reserve during the Korean Conflict from 1953 until 1957. He was a welder for many years, beginning at Bettcher’s Industries in Birmingham and retired after 30 years from Stein F.M.C. Food Tech. of Sandusky. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and dog named Tuffy, hunting, fishing, woodworking, dancing and cross-stitching.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirleen E. (Dingey) Tinkham of Collins; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca (Robert) Griggs of Norwalk, Kimberly (Joseph) Leimeister of Norwalk, Shelly Reineck of Norwalk, Linda (Steve) Grose of Collins; sons and daughters-in-law, John (Pamela) Tinkham of Spanaway, WA and Michael (Carol Wilson) Tinkham of Norwalk; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Moody and Susan Cooper, both of Zanesville; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Geraldine (Knaup) Tinkham; and a nephew, Mark Moody.

Ruth M. (Cleary) Williams, age 47 of North Fairfield, died Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Firelands Regional Medical Center’s Main Campus in Sandusky.
She was born April 24, 1959 in Oberlin, OH and was a 1978 graduate of Western Reserve High School. She was an avid collector of Tweety and Sylvester memorabilia and enjoyed visiting on the telephone with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Robert S. Williams of North Fairfield; daughter, Lisa Strong of Norwalk; son, Joshua Williams stationed at Fort Campbell, KY; mother, and step-father, Hazel (Roy) Back of Olena; grandchildren, Joshua Couch of New London, Annie Strong, Ryilee Strong and Ciara Bowling, all of Norwalk; sisters, Joyce Pittman of IL, Susan Mack of MO and Linda Edwards of Norwalk; brothers, Mark “Tim” Cleary of Olena, Robert Cleary of Olena and Don Cleary of New London; special friend, Tiffany Trent of TN.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Cleary in 1984.
