Charles Alpine
ASHTABULA – Charles (Charley) Alpine, 93, died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville,
Born December 4, 1911 in Joliet, Illinois, he was the son of Andy and Hanna (Kananen) Alpine, and was a resident of this area most of his life.
Married to Louise (Wakeman) Alpine, the couple celebrated their 62nd anniversary on February 22, 2005.
Charley was a member of the Ohio Laborers Union and worked for Bessemer Coal Dock and Diamond Alaki. After retiring in 1974 Charley kept active with his grandchildren, his gardening and enjoyed walks with his dog Corkey.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Louise; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Chatoy Alpine of Virginia; daughters’ and sons’-in-law, Shirley and Doyle Braun of Ashland; Charlene and Carl Saurman of Clinton; Patricia and Tony (Dutch) Gevelaar of Ashtabula; a step-daughter, Carla Gamble of Twinsburg; 14 grandchildren, Tony, Annie, Michelle, Brian, Mark, Tammy, Kelly, Megan, Ricky, Joyce, Tracy, Veronica, Valencia and Manuela; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Raymond; step-son Richard Williams, and granddaughter Tina Williams.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11 AM, Monday, March 28, 2005 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Avenue, Ashtabula with the Reverend Tom Ford officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185 Street, Cleveland, OH 44119.
Ducro Funeral Service and Crematory, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.

Emmett A. Johnson
ASHTABULA - Emmett Arnold Johnson, 89, of Ashtabula, died Friday January 13, 2012 in the hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 22, 1922, in Ashtabula he is the son of Clair and Leona (Zaugg) Johnson. A graduate of Ashtabula High School he remained a life-long area resident.
On August 27, 1943 he married the former Marjorie Anderson and they celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage prior to her death in 2003.
He was a life - long member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula.
An employee of Union Carbide for many years, he was a crane operator until his retirement.
Emmett enjoyed solving word search puzzles, watching television, visiting with family and friends and attending the Union Carbide retiree meetings. His love of fishing took him to Canada for many years, where he received many trophies for his prize catches. Emmett got a great deal of enjoyment telling his family and friends of his excellent adventures
He is survived by his children, Arnold (Linda) Johnson of Lakeland, Florida and Diane (Paul) Bogar of Ashtabula; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (George) Dramis of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie and his daughter Judith Simms.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1342 Prospect Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Rev. Quincy Worthington, Pastor, officiating; Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery, Plymouth Township.
If desired, contributions in Emmett’s name may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

Regina R. Alston
ASHTABULA – Regina Rachelle Alston, 38, of West Avenue died Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born January 29, 1968, the daughter of Warren G. Hoskins, Sr. and Vivian Jones and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.
She attended Ashtabula High School and was a member of Peoples Baptist Church. Known for her great sense of humor, she loved to laugh and joke, attend family gatherings, and spend time with her daughters and granddaughter. She was also a fan of the cartoon show, “Sponge Bob.”
Her survivors include four daughters, Ebony Ezell, Antoinette Ezell, Lynda Alston, and Jessica Alston, all of Ashtabula; one granddaughter, Navayah Ezell; sisters and brothers, Barbara Ezell of Memphis, TN, Arthur (Lillie) Ezell of Ashtabula, Glenda (Michael) Hunt of Ashtabula, Anthony “Rusty” (JaiLita) Ezell of Euclid, Mario (Cherie) Corpening of Abilene, TX, Louise Hoskins, Jammie (Byron) Chatman, Ronald, Raymond, and Richard Lee Corpening, all of Cleveland, Jeanie (Lonnie) Cooper and Warren G. Hoiskins, Jr., both of Ashtabula, Roosevelt (Naomi) Corpening, Jr. of Hawaii, Valerie Owens of Euclid, Lisa Corpening of Geneva, Robin (Diane) Corpening of Watertown, NY, and Reginald Corpening of SC; her parents, Roosevelt and Vivian Corpening of Ashtabula; her former husband, Kevin Alston of Painesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A service will be held 1 PM Friday, March 10, 2006 at the Peoples Baptist Church 3801 West Avenue, Ashtabula. Rev. Christopher McCain, Pastor will officiate.
Calling hours will be Friday at the church from 11 Am to 1 PM.

Alander Sargent
ASHTABULA – Alander Sargent, 88, formerly of West 29th Street died on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day, Monday, January 16, 2012 at his home.
He was born July 11, 1923 in Smithville, MS, the son of Fletcher and Willie (Jones) Sargent and was raised in Tupelo, MS. He had been an Ashtabula resident since 1953. On September 21, 1952, he married the love of his life, Marcella Ingram.
He worked 20 years for Racer Tannery and then 28 years for Ashtabula Dental Associates before he retired in 2010.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II and received the Purple Heart as well as several other medals and ribbons on honor and recognition.
A member of Hiawatha Church of God in Christ which his wife had helped form, he assisted in maintaining the grounds of the church for many years.
He loved fishing and gardening, but most importantly spending time with his family.
His survivors include seven children, Ray Wade of MS, Byron (Yvetta) Sargent of KS, Cheryl Sargent and Rev. Steve Sargent, both of Ashtabula, Darrell (Barb) Sargent of Fairfield, and Kevin Sargent of NJ, and Sonja (Ed) Robinson WI; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mitchelene (Rev. Emmett) Hunter of Santa Monica, CA, Grace Sargent and Jesibell Coleman, both of Tupelo, MS, and Mageline Spears of Racine, WI; one brother, Leroy Sargent of Santa Monica, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella (Ingram) Sargent on September 7, 2002; three sisters, Mattie Bensen, Ammie Salters, and Mae Sargent; four brothers, Eardine, Kelly, John, and Fred Sargent; two other siblings in infancy; and his parents.
A service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Hiawatha Church of God in Christ, 3417 Hiawatha Avenue, Ashtabula, Supt. David Howard Pastor. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery with full military honors.
Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 P.M. on Friday, January 20 at the DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula
Memorial contributions may be made to the family OR Samaritan House.

Carmen L. Alvarez
ASHTABULA – Carmen Luisa Alvarez of East 27th Street passes away peacefully Wednesday December 19, 2007 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born in Puerto Rico, the daughter of Santiago and Beatrice (Rodriguez) Rivera and had been an Ashtabula resident for the past 38 years.
Carmen attended college in Business Administration, and obtained an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. It is important to note that during her collegiate career Carmen maintained a 3.8 GPA.
She retired from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on July 31, 2007. During her career, Carmen served as a Field Training Officer, Classification Officer and translator.
After moving to the United States, she worked for the Department of Labor, Community Action, the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office, and the Geauga County Sheriff's Office prior to coming to Lake County.
A devoted Catholic, she belonged to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and she always thought of her family first.
Her survivors include three children, Juan Carlos Alvarez of Ashtabula, Angel Antonio (Melissa) Alvarez of Martinsburg, WV, and Arleen Jeannette (Xavier) Elizarraras of Mission Viejo, CA; 10 grandchildren, Angel, Patricia, Zoie, Mary, Grace, Faith, Sebastian, Alexander, Gabriel, and Gianna; one brother, Anibal Rodriguez of Puerto Rico; her former husband, Juan Antonio Alvarez; and her additional family, including Paula, Rosa, and Sonya.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Israel and Joaquin Rodriguez; and her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 East 21st Street, Ashtabula. Fr. Philip Miller, Pastor will preside.
Calling hours will be at the church from 9-10 AM.
Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

Luella A. Amzibel
ASHTABULA - Luella Adeline (Watson) Amzibel, 77, of Center Road, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at Ashtabula County Medical Center Hospice Unit.
She was born April 14, 1926 in Hartsgrove, the daughter of Guy and Ruby (Fish) Watson and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.
A 1943 graduate of Pierpont High School, she was awarded a scholarship for her artistic accomplishments to John Nagy Institute of Graphic Arts.
She was a Merchant Marine (Coast Guard Division), belonged to the VFW Post 6846, the American Legion, Dewey Howlett Post#103, and was active in the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, the Anzio Beachhead Veterans of the 45th Infantry Division, as well as other local veteran’s organizations.
In her younger years, she was a scout leader for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and was involved with the John T. McMillan Chapter Order of DeMolay.
Mrs. Amzibel was a member of Mother of Sorrows Church and enjoyed sewing, bowling, and her family. She loved Ming, her granddaughter dog, and watching the Food Network.
Her survivors include one daughter, Sylvia L. (husband Samuel) Platt-Brazil of Ashtabula; two sons, Edward J. (wife Mary Louise) Amzibel of Dover, Delaware and Charles E. (wife Teresa) Amzibel AKA Dr. Chuck Stevens of Ashtabula; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including Robert M. “Mitch” Watson of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Melvin M. Claus; her 2nd husband, Edward Amzibel; three brothers, Quincy, Van, and Spencer Watson; two sisters, Harriet Koch and Pearl Sterling; and her parents.
Funeral service will be at Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 13, 2003. Rev. Fr. Philip Miller, Pastor of St. Joseph Church, will preside. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula, Ohio.
Calling hours will be at Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday, May 12, 2003.
Memorial contributions may be made to her family.

Albert “Andy” Anderson
ASHTAUBLA – Albert “Andy” Anderson, 92, formerly of Jefferson Ave. died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at Country Club Retirement Center.
He was born December 28, 1910, the son of Albert and Barbara James and was adopted by his Aunt and Uncle Frank and Louise (James) Anderson as a child. He lived in Jefferson on South Market Street from 1939 to 1958 and then moved to Ashtabula.
After attending Ashtabula High School, he served in the Philippines in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 943.
Prior to his retirement, he worked 42 years for Saybrook True Temper.
An avid Cleveland Indians fan, a bowler and fisherman, Mr. Anderson loved sports and played on several baseball teams.
His survivors include one daughter, Shirley Campbell of Ashtabula; one son Robert Anderson of Geneva-on-the-Lake; 7 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel (Anderson), whom he married April 12, 1934; two sons, Larry and James Anderson; a grandson, Timothy Anderson; a sister, Caroline Baker; and his parents.
A service will be held 11 A.M. on Friday, July 18, 2003 at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Michael Legg, Pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Ashtabula County United Veterans Counsel will conduct full military rights at the graveside.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 17, 2003 from 7 to 9 at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula.
