Mary A. Knapp
ANDOVER - Mary Alyce Knapp, 69, of Chestnut Street, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at the Miller Memorial Health Care Center, Andover.
Born, June 28, 1932, in Cleveland, she was a daughter of Neville and Anne E. (O'Reilley) McNemey.
A longtime Andover resident, Mrs. Knapp was a graduate of Andrews School for Girls, Willoughby. She married W. Stanley Knapp on July 15, 1951.
She worked for the A & P grocery store and the 5 & 10 store in Andover for 10 years as clerk and manager. She also was a homemaker.
A member of Andover Church of Christ, she taught Sunday School for many years. She also was a member of the Mother's Club; the Parent Teacher Organization for Pymatuning Valley Local Schools; and was involved in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts for many years.
She enjoyed sewing, baking, reading and doing crafts.
Survivors include two sons, Larry M. of Andover and Gary W. of Bristol, Tenn.; a daughter, Kathy L. Bugansky of Dorset Township; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 22; her parents; a brother, Jack McNemey; and a sister, Patricia Kendrick.
Memorial service is 7 p.m. Thursday at the Andover Church of Christ, Stillman Avenue, Andover, with the Rev. Robert C. Gears officiating. She will be cremated and burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
No calling hours will be observed.

Marie A. Merlene
MESA, Ariz. - Marie A. Merlene, 91, died Saturday, May 11, 2002.
She was born March 5, 1911, in Ashtabula, coming from Arizona in the late 1970s.
She worked at Lake City Malleable and at Electric Laundry in Ashtabula for several years before her retirement.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Lamm of Chandler, Ariz., and Donna Briglovich of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Anthony of Silver Spring, Md., and Robert of Gilbert, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Eugene, in 1999; her mother, Julia Cardinal; a sister, Mary Theresa Vincenza Shipp; and a brother, Joseph Frank Paren.
Funeral was at Christ the King Church, Mesa, Ariz. Burial was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mesa, Ariz.
Melcher Mortuary, Chapel of the Roses, 43 S. Stapley Drive, Mesa, Ariz., had charge of the arrangements.
Howard Broughton
ANDOVER - Howard Broughton, 62, of Creek Road in Andover, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born Dec. 12, 1939, in Saybrook Township, the son of William Homer and Elsie (Sutton) Broughton. Reared by his grandparents, Frank and Martha Sutton, he was a lifelong county resident.
He worked in the Pymatuning Valley Schools maintenance department the past five years. Previously, he worked as a testing supervisor for DHI, based in Powell, for 10 years. He was a long-distance truck driver for 20 years, and the last five years he drove with his wife, the former Marie Heaton, whom he married July 18, 1959.
He was a member of the Andover Church of Christ; was Cub Master of Pack 44 in Andover; was president of the Ohio Association of Public Schools Employees, Local 422; and was a former 4-H Dairy Club advisor.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping with family, attending and supporting Pymatuning Valley athletic events and spending time with his grandchildren. He also was a big supporter of the Andover Church of Christ men's softball team.
Survivors include his mother; his wife; a son, Mark R. Broughton of Andover; a daughter, Carla H. Broughton of Andover; grandchildren Tyler Miller and Emily Miller; three brothers and three sisters.
Service is 3 p.m. Saturday at the Andover Church of Christ, Stilman Avenue, Andover. Robert Geers, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.
Calling hours at the church are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Michael G. Vlock
ANDOVER - Michael G. "Junior" Vlock Jr., 78, of Gates Street, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at his residence.
Born on March 12, 1925, in Youngstown, the son of Michael G. and Anna T. (Wehl) Vlock Sr.
A lifetime area resident, Mr. Vlock was employed as a tool and die maker by Target Stamped Products in Kinsman for 35 years, retiring in 1990. Mr. Vlock was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. in the European-African-Middle Eastern theaters.
He was a member of the West Williamsfield First Congregational Church. Mr. Vlock enjoyed fishing, gardening and painting pictures.
Survivors include his wife, Norma C. (Fenn), of Andover, whom he married on September 13, 1946; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lawrence F. Vlock; and one sister, Dorothy J. Dahl.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2003, at 12 p.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio. Burial will follow in West Williamsfield Cemetery in Williamsfield, Ohio.
Calling hour will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.

Mary S. Kowalski
ANDOVER - Mary S. Kowalski, 83, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at the Andover Village Retirement Community.
Born Dec. 17, 1918, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Michael and Sophie Stanko.
She married Casimire Kowalski on May 30, 1939. He died in 1984.
Formerly of Garfield Heights, Mrs. Kowalski had lived in Andover since 1985. She was a homemaker and also worked for Hayes Aluminum Co., Garfield Heights, for several years as a screener.
She was an associate member of Holiday Camplands Safety Forces.
Survivors include a son, Raymond R. of Andover.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and a brother, Andrew Stanko.
Service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 143 Prospect St., Andover. Cremation will follow.
Calling hours are from noon until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Zackary A. Steen
ANDOVER - Zackary Allen Steen, infant son of Tonya D. Hess and Joseph M. Steen, of Homestead Avenue, Andover, died shortly after birth Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Survivors include his parents; his grandparents, Rita D. Hess of Dorset, Henry D. Hess of Princeton, W.Va., and Robert L. and Rhonda Steen of Andover; and a great-grandmother, Della Steen of Williamsfield Township.
He was preceded in death by two brothers who died in infancy, Todd A. Taylor Jr. and Timothy G. H. Taylor.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Dorset Cemetery, Dorset Township, with the Rev. Robert Gears of the Andover Church of Christ officiating.
No calling hours will be observed.

Darwin L. Britton
CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. - Darwin Lyle Britton, 79, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Big Ben Hospice House, Tallahassee, Fla.
He was born July 16, 1922, in Ashtabula, the son of Herbert and Elsie (Fonner) Britton, and had lived in Andover and Williamsfield before moving to Crawfordville in 1969.
He worked more than 20 years at Roberts Sand Co., Tallahassee, and was still employed full time until the onset of his illness in February.
He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II.
He was a member and deacon at the Lake Ellen Baptist Church in Medart, Fla., and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4538, Panacea, Fla. He assisted Panacea' volunteer fire department many years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda (Smock), whom he married July 4, 1947; two sons, Rex of Andover, and Gary of New Lyme Township; a daughter, Diane Curlee of Crawfordville; two brothers, Darl of Kinsman, and Keith of Medway; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Pamela Rae Britton.
Graveside service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Williamsfield Center Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert C. Gears officiating.
