Robert Guy Sr.

CONNEAUT - Robert Guy Sr., 79, of Conneaut, died Sunday, September 16, 2007, at the V.A. Medical Center in Erie, PA. He was born June 3, 1928 in Conneaut, the son of Ray and Clara (Ross) Guy.
Robert was a veteran of U.S. Army serving during World War II, and had worked for U.S. Scrap Iron as a crane operator. He was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church, raced cars for many years at Raceway 7, enjoyed fishing, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Winifred (Kinney), whom he married November 29, 1950; his daughter, Carol Wright and her special friend Mark Ellingson, both of West Springfield, PA; two sons, Robert Guy, Jr., and Rickey (Bonnie) Guy, all of Conneaut; gradchildren Ed Guy, Tori Guy, both of Conneaut, Wendy (Jason) Bish of Albion, PA, Kayla Wright, Alford Wright, Kristy Wright, and Casey Sikora, all of West Springfield, PA; his step-granddaughter Charlene Lewis of Havelock, NC; three great-grandchildren, Devon Guy, Jeffrey Bish, and Peyton Bish, all of Albion, PA; and his brother, Homer Guy, of Girard, PA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and step-daughter Kay Struchen.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. David Miller of Lakeview United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH, with military rites conducted by the Geneva VFW Post 6846.
Friends may call at the funeral home today, Tuesday, September 18, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Marcy Funeral Home. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Wayne E. Barker
CONNEAUT - Wayne E. Barker, 51, of Washington Street, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut.
He was born Dec. 30, 1950, in Erie, Pa., the son of Eugene C. and Beth (Gibbs) Barker, and had been a 33-year Conneaut resident, moving to the region from the Springfield, Pa., area.
He was a 1968 graduate of Northwestern High School in Albion, Pa., and worked as a machine operator and did machine maintenance for Gillespie Excavating.
He enjoyed watching Cleveland’s Indians and Browns, doing abstract painting and tinkering with his 1950 Pontiac.
Survivors include his mother of Albion; his wife, Vickey J. (Struchen), whom he married in 1972; two daughters, Brandy Kohut of Akron, and Bethany Barker of Youngstown; and three brothers, Tim of Springfield, Pa., Rob of Albion, and Russ of Platea, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Gail Kelly.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. A prayer service will follow visitation.
Burial will be at Springfield Cemetery in East Springfield, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, Pa., 16505. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

M. Lois Kauppila
CONNEAUT - M. Lois Kauppila, 78, of Lake Breeze Drive, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, in the Hospice unit of the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Westbrook, Minn., the daughter of Alfred W. and Lydia A. (Jorgenson) Lundquist.
She served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a aviation machinist’s mate third class, involved in engine repair and testing. She was stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where she met her husband, Wayne M. “Sonny” Kauppila. They married Oct. 12, 1946, in Westbrook, Minn.
She worked at the A&P Grocery, Loblaws, and retired as deli manager from Mr. G’s Valu-King.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Conneaut, and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, taking walks and being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kandace L. Kubichek of Conneaut, and Kimberly A. Tackett of North Kingsville; four sons, Mark A. of North Kingsville, Joel W. and Brian R. of Conneaut, and Jeffrey C. of Austin, Texas; a brother, Allan W. Lundquist of Ocala, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren Matthew, Katie, Ashley, Brianna, Tommy, Chrissy, Timmy and Bethany Kauppila, Paige Kubichek, Jacob Tackett and Ame Erdman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, June V. Jansma.
Service is 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. The Rev. Todd Regester of First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Association, Northeast Ohio Chapter, 2500 E. 22nd St., Suite 101, Cleveland 44115; or the First Baptist Church memorial fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Katie P. Headley
CONNEAUT - Katie "Kathy" Parmley Alleman Johnson Headley, 46, of Broad Street, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
She was born on July 17, 1957 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Adrian and Wanda Louise (Francis) Parmley.
She previously worked as a nurse's aid. Mrs. Headley had a good heart and loved collecting stuffed animals, knick-knacks, and playing bingo.
Survivors include her husband, Don Headley; one daughter, Tonya Alleman- Payne of Austin, TX; three sisters, Mary Roncaglione of Kingsville, Andrea Whitlock of Muncie, IN, and Sandra Parmley of MI; one brother, Lee Parmley of Muncie, IN; and one half-brother, James Ramsey of Muncie, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at the Edgewood Alliance Church, 3137 East Center Street, North Kingsville, Rev. Fred Brown, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at the church from 4 p.m. until the hour of service.
Contributions may be made to the family.
DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY is in charge of arrangements.

H. Walter Kimmy
CONNEAUT - H. Walter Kimmy, 74, of State St., Conneaut, died Friday morning, May 30, 2003, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
Born July 13, 1928, in Albion, PA, a son of Hiram Leslie and Grace Elvy (Steindorf) Kimmy.
Mr. Kimmy served in the Korean War with the 504th Airborne Division and was awarded the Purple Heart of Honor. He was a Teamster truck driver for many years, a candy maker at Pulakos Candies in Erie, PA, and retired in 1993 from Gunnison Brothers Tannery in Girard, PA, where he was a hide polisher. He was a member of the Optimist Club, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn M. (Bouck) Kimmy, whom he married February 24, 1968; two daughters, Gloria Humphreys and husband, Carl, of Conneaut, and Peggy and husband, Dave Darty, of Cleveland; three sisters, Madeline Sarver, Mary Johnson, and Celeste Bovaird; a brother, James Kimmy; five grandchildren, Tina Young, Christine Young, Ronald Young, Donna Newhart, and Brandon Darty; nine great-grandchildren, Russell Bidwell, Virginia Humphreys, Erica Newhart, Donald Humphreys, Trista Read, Joshua Newhart, Alexander Read, Kiersten Young and Ryan Young, all of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Henry Kimmy; and his sisters, Jean Terriberry and Gertrude Gray.
Graveside service will be 12 noon Saturday, June 7, 2003, in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut, with Paul and Sherry Moore, of the West Park Salvation Army, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is in charge of arrangements.

Bernard "Bernie" Paul Oster
CONNEAUT - Bernard "Bernie" Paul Oster, 78, of Conneaut, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Edinboro Manor, Edinboro, PA.
Born July 13, 1924, in Meadville, PA, the son of Otto P. and Lelia (Kerswell) Oster.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and a veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Boston with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was employed at the American Brake Shoe Co. in Meadville, PA., Hays Mfg. in Erie, PA, as an engineer, Emco-Wheaton in Conneaut as plant supervisor, Reed Mfg. in Erie, PA, as foundry supervisor, and Stone Container in Jefferson, as an engineer. He also owned and operated a commercial fish tug, the Flying Duck. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and collecting.
Survivors include three sons, Bernard Jr. and Dale, both of Cambridge Springs, PA, and Dirk Oster of Conneaut; his sister, Audrey Brown of Meadville, PA; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 51 years, Dorothy D., in 1998.
There will be no visitation or funeral service; however, friends and family are invited to attend a memorial gathering, on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the home of Dirk and Paula Oster, 470 Dorman Rd., Conneaut. The Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, is in charge of arrangements.

Betty J. Friel
CONNEAUT - Betty J. Friel, 74, of Conneaut, died Tuesday morning, May 27, 2003, at the home of her son in Marion, IN.
Born September 9, 1928, in Caldwell, OH, to Chester and Mabel (Shafer) Sullivan. She was a graduate of Canal Fulton High School and faithfully attended the annual reunions. She also attended Sayre's Beauty College in Akron and was a practicing beautician for many years.
Betty was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where she was an usher, office volunteer, and member of the Ladies Guild. Her gardening skills were in evidence every spring around the church front and grotto. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America. Betty was a member of the Irish Colleens and used her crafting skills to create memorable luncheon favors.
She loved working at the 50/50 Barn and took great joy in finding Jim his $1.00 ties. She was very proud to be a Red Cross Volunteer.
Betty took great joy in her church and the Conneaut community. Her greatest gift was love of friends and family. She was always ready to lend a hand, cook a special meal or dessert, or just sit and listen. She was a fun-loving spirit, giving wife, a loyal and loving mother and the best kind of grandmother. Her cookie jar was always full; she had dinosaur Band-Aids and gave superior hugs.
When she died, everything was just so: She was at home with Terry and Nan; there was a lilac on her pillow, music softly playing, and her birds singing and playing outside her window. She left this life gracefully as she lived it.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Terry and Nan Friel of Marion, IN; her four grandchildren, Terry Jr., and wife Darcy, and Scott, Sara, and Jake; her two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Madison; her much beloved brother, Don Sullivan of Washington, DC; a sister, Ann Keltler of Canal Fulton; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2000; her parents, Chester and Mabel; and her two brothers, Bruce and Marvin Sullivan.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Catholic Daughters of America conducting a service at 8 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2003, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
