Theodore L. Evans
CONNEAUT - Theodore L. Evans, 65, of Conneaut, died early Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Mr. Evans was born Aug. 2, 1937, in Ashtabula, the son of Versal and Georgia (Powers) Evans. He attended Ashtabula High School and later entered the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1955 until 1963. Mr. Evans later worked for Molded Fiber Glass Co. in Ashtabula as a tooler. He also worked for the former Eighmy Corp. in Conneaut as a machinist. He retired from the Pittsburgh and Conneaut Dock Company in 1988 after working several years as a machinist.
Mr. Evans was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. He enjoyed collecting antiques, including military antiques, fishing, playing golf, riding his motorcycle and traveling to casinos. He loved spending time with his family, including his grandchildren, who considered him their hero.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Evans.
He is survived by his wife, the former Concetta (Connie) Morano, whom he married Sept. 24, 1955, at St. Frances Cabrini; three sons, Theodore L. Jr., of Jacksonville, N.C., Michael L. and Anthony L., both of Conneaut; two daughters, Victoria Sharp and Nancy Henson, both of Conneaut; a brother, Thomas Evans of Dorset; two sisters, Janice Headley of North Kingsville and Carolee Morris of Michigan; eight grandchildren, Ginny, Zachary and Alyssa Evans, Lillian and Pearl Sharp, and Emily, Olivia and Jasmine Henson.
A Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
Calling hours will be Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut. A vigil prayer service will be held at 8:45 p.m. with Sister Jean Squiric presiding.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Sean W. Kinney
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Former Conneaut resident Sean W. Kinney, 30, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at his home in Cheyenne.
He was born Oct. 1, 1972, in Youngstown, the son of William F. and Ruth Ann (Smith) Kinney.
A 1991 Conneaut High School graduate, he graduated from the Pittsburgh Diesel Institute and attended Nevada Forestry School of Firefighting in Pahrump, Nev.
He worked in the shipping and welding departments at Puma Steel Co. in Cheyenne.
In his younger years, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and 4-H, and played high school football. A talented artist and NASCAR fan, he enjoyed his pets and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his parents, of Conneaut; two sisters, Heather Sinclair of Buffalo, N.Y., and Heidi Kinney of New York City; maternal grandparents, Charles and Louise Smith of Kingsville Township; and his fiancee, Robin Asaph of Cheyenne, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Madeline Kinney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 480 State St., Conneaut. The Rev. Raymond Thomas will officiate.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Conneaut Community Center for the Arts. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Harold B. Vaughn
CONNEAUT - Harold B. Vaughn, 88, of Akron, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut.
He was born April 5, 1914, in Portage County, the son of Merton J. and Ida May (Beal) Vaughn.
A Conneaut resident the past two years, he retired as a supervisor from Goodyear Aerospace in 1974. He was a member of Adoniram-Joppa Lodge 517 Free and Accepted Masons.
He enjoyed walking, tinkering with cars, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, the former Helen L. Bennington, whom he married Oct. 6, 1934; a son, Kenneth H. of Conneaut; two grandchildren, Rachael Irish and LuAnne Waha; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 1 p.m. Thursday at the Eckard-Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market St., Akron. Burial will be at Hillside Memorial Park in Summit County.
Calling hour at the funeral home is noon Thursday until the time of service.

William A. Hoedt
CONNEAUT - William Alfred Hoedt, 79, of Bridgeview Lane, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002.
He was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of Charles and Lillian (Urban) Hoedt.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.
Mr. Hoedt worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 41 years, retiring in 1984. After retirement, he was appointed to the Conneaut Port Authority from 1990 to 2002, an organization close to his heart.
He was life member of the Conneaut Elks Club and also was a member of the American Legion and Moose Club.
Mr. Hoedt enjoyed traveling and playing cards. He thought Conneaut was the best place in the world to live, family members said.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Rosemary (Myers); two daughters, Viva Silbert of Conneaut, who was his caregiver for the past 1 1/2 years, and Mary Alice Byers of Sunrise, Fla.; a granddaughter, Megan Silbert of Gainsville, Fla., and a grandson, Jordan Silbert of Coral Springs, Fla.; two brothers, Kenneth of Talmadge and Robert of Buffalo, N.Y.; and a sister, Doris Linder of Buffalo, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Mr. Hoedt's life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Port Conneaut Yacht Club, 1205 Broad St., Conneaut, formally Gully's Galley. Friends and family are welcome to attend and share stories of Mr. Hoedt's life.
At Mr. Hoedt's request, no calling hours will be observed.

Rosemarie E. Cosner
CONNEAUT - Rosemarie E. Cosner, 63, of Hosford Avenue, Conneaut, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 24, 1938, in Conneaut, the daughter of Andrew T. Tully and Eloise (Cox) Beaver, and had lived most of her life in Conneaut.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church and attended St. Mary's School and Conneaut High School.
She worked as an assembler at the former Astatic Corp., in Conneaut, and at the former Webb Manufacturing.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Women of the Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Howard G. Sr., whom she married Nov. 27, 1958; a daughter, Gail A. Fisher of Louisville; two sons, Howard G. Jr., of Ingleside, Texas, and Paul J. of Conneaut; six grandchildren; a sister, Eloise Jones of Conneaut; and two brothers, Charles Beaver and Richard Beaver, both of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary J. Taylor and Laura Ann Mozart; and a brother, Jimmy Beaver.

Viola M. Smith
CONNEAUT - Viola M. Smith, 88, formerly of Rowe Street in Conneaut, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Cleveland Clinic.
She was born May 7, 1913, in Loretto, Tenn., the daughter of William and Callie Powell, and moved to Conneaut when she was a young woman.
She was a member of the East Conneaut United Methodist Church and was active in the Mothers Club, Garden Club and the Rowe PTA.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Carpenter of Cleveland, and Sonnie Greene of Stewart, Fla.; a son, Thomas P. of Brandon, Miss.; six grandchildren, Kenneth Smith, Anthony Feudo, Denna Helton, Lori Schultz, Jeff Neer and Scott Neer; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence H., in 1979; and nine brothers and sisters.
Service is 3 p.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut. The Rev. Armando Arellano, pastor of the East Conneaut United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home are 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Robert Young
CONNEAUT - Robert Young, 83, of Center Street, died Friday, Nov. 2. 2001, at the Carrington Park Nursing Center, Ashtabula.
He was born April 28, 1918, in Albion, Pa., the son of Philip and Isabelle (Phoenix) Young.
Mr. Young had resided in Conneaut most of his life.
He was employed as a laborer in construction in Erie, Pa.
Mr. Young was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army. He was an avid antique collector.
Survivors include his son, Rodney Young of Conneaut; three grandchildren, Gary, Michelle and Molly Young of Conneaut and a sister, Isabelle Todd of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth and four brothers, Paul, Raymond, LaVerne and Gene Young.
Services will be 1 p.m. on Monday at Kelloggsville Cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Kraus, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Young’s name to the Conneaut Station 3 Rescue Squad.
