Selma S. Nurmi
CONNEAUT - Selma S. Nurmi, 95, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
She was born Oct. 13, 1904, in Conneaut, and spent most of her life in Ohio and Florida. She returned to Ohio after the death of her husband, Richard, in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters: Katherine Evans of Chagrin Falls and Marilyn Sheldon of Rutland, Vt.; a sister, Fannie Kettell of Conneaut; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard Alatalo and Eino Alatalo; and two sisters: Helen Lammi and Bertha Alatalo.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Conneaut Center Cemetery, Conneaut.
Robin R. Barnhart
CONNEAUT - Robin R. Barnhart, 31, of Dorman Road, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center after a 3 1/2-year battle with brain cancer.
She was born April 11, 1971, in Conneaut, the daughter of Edward and Nancy (Brocklehurst) Weaver, and had lived in Conneaut and Kingsville Township her entire life.
She was a graduate of Edgewood Senior High School and the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School, a member of the class of 1990.
She worked at RMI, Ashtabula, and the Rugala auto dealership in Andover, and was a waitress at the Kingsville Truck Stop for several years.
She was a member of Kingsville First Baptist Church and the Women of the Moose Lodge 86.
She enjoyed gardening, canning and going to Raceway 7. She especially loved taking care of her family and children.
Survivors include her husband, Michael, whom she married Aug. 4, 1994; two daughters, Amber and Ashlee, at home; her mother of Kingsville; and three brothers, Stephen Weaver of Ashtabula, Mark Weaver of Brecksville Heights, and Barry Weaver of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her father; maternal grandparents Everett and Edna Brocklehurst; and paternal grandparents Wendell Weaver and Edna Fishback.
Service is 2 p.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut. The Rev. David Hines of Kingsville Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

William Taylor
CONNEAUT - William Fay Taylor, 72, of Woodland Ave., died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at home from a probable coronary.
He was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Conneaut, the son of Fay William and Mary (Mackey) Taylor Phelps.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mr. Taylor was a graduate of Rowe High School, and was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
Before enlisting in the service he was employed at Megs Grow Fisheries, and retired in 1987, after 32 years of service as a tool setter at the General Electric Base Plant.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church, American Legion Cowle Post 151, the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Finnish American Heritage Association of Fairport Harbor, and was a senior club member of Goodwill Industries.
He enjoyed genealogical research, collecting antiques, guns, coins and spending time with his family.
Survivors include three sons, William of Galloway, Andrew and Joel of Conneaut; a sister, Eleanor Anthony of Cleveland; two brothers, Ed and Glenn of Conneaut; and seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Zachary, Sean, Tully and Trace Taylor and Robert and Nicole Oliver
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Jo (Tully); and a brother, Richard "Rock."
Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas of St. Mary's Church officiating. Burial will be in East Conneaut Cemetery where Cowle Post 151 will conduct military rites.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Clara M. Childs
CONNEAUT - Clara M. Childs, 84, of Conneaut, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at her residence in the Conneaut Manor Complex.
She was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Wellston, the daughter of Elzie and Minnie Marks.
She attended school in the Wellston area and then came to Conneaut, where she worked for several years at the former Trans Plastic Plant, until her retirement.
Mrs. Childs enjoyed playing bingo at the Manor and loved to go fishing for catfish down at the Conneaut creek.
She had a collection of Teddy bears and clothes. Mrs. Childs had many grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them all.
Survivors include her one daughter, Betty Brewer; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Brewer; a daughter, Ruth Baldwin; and 14 brothers and sisters.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, graveside at Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut with the Rev. Raymond Lamb of the Church of God officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut, which is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Helen Blin
TUJUNGA, Calif. - Helen (Hudock) Blin, 81, formerly of Ashtabula, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, of heart failure associated with arterial sclerosis in Tujunga, Calif.
Mrs. Blin and her family had lived on 16th Street, Ashtabula for many years, when she moved to California.
She was a executive secretary after receiving her degree at Spencerian College in Cleveland.
Mrs. Blin was employed at Ohio Piston Co. and Cleveland Pneumatic Tool during World War II.
She married K.C. Blin and was married for almost 50 years. She has three daughters and a son.
C. Lucille Kelly
CONNEAUT - C. Lucille Kelly, 65, of Harbor Street, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at her home.
She was born Aug. 11, 1936, in Batavia, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Marion (Nye) Spoor.
She grew up in Oakfield, N.Y., moving to Geneva in 1953. She settled in Conneaut in 1962 with her husband, Herbert Kelly, raising five children.
She worked for a time at Premix and for many years at Markko Vineyards.
She was active at Conneaut Church of God, and was a member of Taking Off Pounds Sensibly 971 for many years.
Mrs. Kelly also was involved in the Conneaut Athletic Boosters, and was a former member of the St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church functions, bingo, crafts and was a Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include her mother; four daughters, Roxanne Meola, Rhonda Kelly and Christine Brown, all of Conneaut, and Rachel Stewart of Ashtabula; a son, Herbert of Conneaut; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Potter of Indiana and Diane Manes of Geneva; five brothers, Charles "Buddy" Spoor of New Mexico, Richard "Tommy" Spoor, Clarence Spoor, Gary Spoor and Allen Spoor, all of Geneva.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Service is 10 a.m. Monday at the Conneaut Church of God, 5327 Center Road, Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Kitchen Fund of the Church of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
Esko M. Naykki
CONNEAUT Esko M. Naykki, 78, of Lake Road, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Vassa, Finland, the son of the late John and Enna Naykki. He came to Conneaut at the age of 8.
Mr. Naykki was employed by the former Nickel Plate Railroad in the car shop until 1958 and also worked for the City of Conneaut Water Department for several years. He retired from the former Exomet after 20 years of service.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army in France, South Germany and England.
Mr. Naykki enjoyed making model boats, reading history books, watching television, walking and bike riding and especially enjoyed being with his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Treva Phillips of Erie; three sons, David and Michael, both of Conneaut, and Thomas Naykki of Maineville; seven grandchildren, Paula Schulz, Oakey Bland III, Joseph Bland, Patrick, Brian, Chris and Justin Naykki.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; and a grandson, Matthew Hebden.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Maurer of Four Square Gospel Church officiating. Internment will be made in City Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
