Charles A. Harmich
CONNEAUT - Charles A. Harmich, 83, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at his home following a five-month illness. He was born May 13, 1919, in Youngstown, a son of Charles and Mary (Wanca) Harmich.
Mr. Harmich moved to Conneaut in 1946 with the Astatic Corp., where he was employed in the warehouse and stockroom for 26 years. He then worked for SCM in Ashtabula, as a supervisor, for 16 years, until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the group of old-timers from the Astatic. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends every day, playing the piano, working outdoors, and spending times with his family and his dog, Chico.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred "Maizie" (Kain) Harmich, whom he married April 29, 1944; his son, John J., of Erie, Pa.; four grandchildren, Kathryn Bliley, Michelle Cochran, Michael J. Harmich, and Melissa Fetzner; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John J., in World War II.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Ashtabula County. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Dorothy L. Hall
CONNEAUT - Dorothy L. Hall, 65, of Conneaut, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born March 3, 1936, in Roseville, Mich., the daughter of Fred and Antionette Shafer.
She was a homemaker and resident of Conneaut for 25 years.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Carraher of Kingsville Township, Virginia Rivera of Conneaut, Dorothy Braden of Pennsylvania, Maureen Ward of Conneaut; three sons, Calvin of Conneaut, Fredrick of Pennsylvania, Frank of Williamsfield Township; 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Antonia Decker, Barbara Ann Meldrum and a brother, Carl James Shafer.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Henry and Fred Charles.
Memorial service is 6 p.m. Thursday at the Connneaut Church of Christ, 448 W. Main Road, Conneaut, with the Rev. Tim Krause officiating.
Mrs. Hall's body was donated to Case Western Reserve University to furth medical science.

Esther R. Carle
CONNEAUT - Esther R. Carle, 100, formerly of Liberty Street, Conneaut, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born July, 22, 1900 in Conneaut, a daughter of Orlando and Katherine (Potter) Ward.
Mrs. Carle was employed as a clerk in the Ashtabula County auditor's office for more than 30 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Sam Wharram Club, Woman's Christian Temperance Union, the Conneaut Railroad Museum, Conneaut Community Center and volunteered as a Gray Lady for 25 years at Brown Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter, Nanette Crawford of Houston, Texas; a son, Harold W. Carle of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Rebecca and Scott Carle, Charlton and Andrew Crawford; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brother, Paul and Hubert Smith; a sister, Betty Louise Smith; and her step-father, Edward M. Smith.
There will be no visitation or services. Arrangements are being made Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut.
Laini L. Sharp
CONNEAUT - Laini L. Sharp, 94, Conneaut, died Saturday May 5, 2001, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born April, 9, 1907, in Conneaut, a daughter of Hjalmer and Hilma (Orrenmaa) Rankinen.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Royal Neighbors of America. Mrs. Sharp enjoyed her family, traveling and flowers.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty Jane Eloranto of Rantoul, Ill., Peggy Valenti, Shirley Bunnell and Judy Pataky, all of Conneaut; four sons, Jean Richard, Ronald L., David G., and Robert B. Sharp, all of Conneaut; two sisters, Pearl Nook and Anne Weber, both of Conneaut; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter D. Sharp, Sr., ; a brother, William J. Rankinen; and two sisters, Lillian Lindgren and Alice Dickson.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Rev. Clyde A. McGee officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Anthony M. Zappitelli
CONNEAUT - Anthony M. Zappitelli, 79, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Lake West Hospital, Euclid.
Mr. Zappitelli was born Feb. 4m 1922, in Conneaut, the son of Eugene and Olympia (DiPlacido) Zappitelli. He married Margaret Dewart on Sept. 19, 1922 in Pittsburgh.
He attended Conneaut High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country for more than three years. He was honorably discharged and went to work in the construction field. He later went on to the Nickel Plate Railroad where he worked for 18 years in the roundhouse. He retired Jan. 1, 1986, from the Conneaut Street Department where he had been an employee of the city for 28 years.
He was a member of the St. Frances Cabrini Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus 627. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Danny, Don and Joe of Conneaut and Anthony Gene of Bowling Green; three daughters, Debi Thayer of Fredricktown; Ozzie Maenpaa of Victorville, Calif. and Alice Kurdas of Conneaut; four brothers, Edward and Henry, both of Conneaut, Eugene of West Virginia, and Father Frances of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Theresa Ozolek of Conneaut and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Josephine and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill St., Conneaut with Father Raymond Thomas and Father Frances Zappitelli concelebrating the mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut. The Knights of Columbus will gather at 7 p.m. for a fraternal prayer service.

Wanda V. Castle
CONNEAUT Wanda V. Castle, 76, of State Street, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut, following a two-year illness.
Born June 9, 1924, in Cowen, W.Va., she had been a Conneaut resident for the past 20 years.
Mrs. Castle had been employed by United Way and retired from the Child Care Center of Conneaut. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God, Ashtabula, and enjoyed camping, traveling and her family.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Radcliff, Patricia Adkins and Mary Fromknecht, all of Conneaut, and Anna Ita of North Kingsville; eight sons, John and Ernest Burdette of Kingsville Township, Jack Burdette of Scarbro, W.Va., Teddy Burdette of Andover, , Leonard and Michael Burdette of Conneaut, Fred Carpenter of Sarasota, Fla., and Roscoe of Conneaut; 32 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Geneive Skaggs of Beckley, W.Va., and Bernie Ward of Cowen.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Adams; her first husband, Theodore R. Burdette; her second husband, Ora Castle; a grandson, Leon Dennison; a great-grandson, Terry Duane Rogers; a sister, Beulah Bragg; and three brothers, Tony, Pearl and Walter Martin.
Services is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Pentecostal Church of God, Cook Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kenneth Roberts officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
