Freda B. Hammond
CONNEAUT - Freda B. Hammond, 85, formerly of Harbor Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital of Conneaut.
She was born Dec. 13, 1917 in Sheffield Township, the daughter of Albert and Inez (Weaver) Johnson.
Survivors include two sons, Paul H. Jr. and Robert L. Hammond of Blythedale, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Angela Kay and Amanda Lynn Hammond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Paul H. Hammond Sr.
Graveside services will take place at a later date.
No calling hours will be observed.

Michael D. Isbrandt Jr.
CONNEAUT - Michael David Isbrandt Jr., 20, of Orange Street, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in an automobile crash.
He was born Aug.. 31, 1981, in Conneaut, the son of Michael David and Donna (Miller) Isbrandt.
He attended Conneaut High School, where he played football and wrestled for the Spartans. He was a free spirit who enjoyed golf and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his father of Conneaut and mother of Madison; paternal grandfather, William Isbrandt of Ashtabula; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Virginia Miller of Ashtabula; and four sisters, Emily Isbrandt of Madison, and Elizabeth and Sarah Shoaff and Lindsay Merlene, all of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Geraldine Isbrandt.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Phillip Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Agnes M. Miller
CONNEAUT - Service for Agnes M. Miller, 92, of Conneaut will be 2:30 p.m. today at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover.
Calling hours are 1:30 p.m. until the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Miller died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at the Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born April 24, 1909, in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret S. (Reid) Bootland.
A graduate of Gallow Flats School, Rittberger, Scotland, Mrs. Miller came to the United States in 1928 and was a longtime Conneaut resident, coming from Cleveland. She married Frank Miller on July 17, 1931.
Mrs. Miller retired from the American Greetings Co., Cleveland, in 1967 after 20 years of service. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling with her husband, and listening to music.
Survivors include a niece, Marian B. Orahood of Andover; and three nephews, Richard T. Miller of Andover, Christopher W. Miller of Conneaut and Adam C. Miller of West Springfield, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on April 29, 1993; two sisters, Margaret Gowan-Gaugh and Elizabeth Langdon; and a brother, William Bootland.

Robert C. Marcy
CONNEAUT - Robert Charles Marcy, 93, of Liberty Street, Conneaut, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut, Ohio. He was born July 22, 1909, in Conneaut and was the son of Charles and Viola Dougherty Marcy.
A 1928 graduate of Conneaut High School, he also attended Ohio Wesleyan University and Allegheny College, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was a licensed funeral director for 70 years in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
As a young man, he was active in Boy Scouts and local musicals. He was a strong optimist and was deeply involved in many Conneaut activities. He was named “Mr. Conneaut” in 1963. He helped organize the Community Chest (now United Way) in Conneaut, and was local chairman of the Conneaut Red Cross before that organization affiliated with Ashtabula County. For many years, he served as local Red Cross Blood Bank and Disaster Chairman. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Conneaut Historical Society, Evergreen Lodge 222 F&AM, and Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland. He was a 70-year member of Kiwanis International and served as president of the Conneaut club in 1937 and Lt. Governor of Kiwanis in 1947. He was honored as a Rotary International’s Paul Harris Fellow.
He was past moderator of the Congregational Christian Church (now United Church of Christ) and was a founder of the Ardis Rhinehart-Kremer Home, Conneaut.
He enjoyed golfing and at one time was B class champion at the former Conneaut Country Club (now Conneaut Shores). He loved boating and served for a time in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He and his brother Hugh once sailed from Englewood, Fla., to Conneaut in a small boat.
Mr. Marcy and his wife wintered in his beloved Englewood, Fla., cottage, on Lemon Bay, that his family constructed in 1925.
He is survived by his two children, Bob and his wife Sue of Conneaut, and Susan Carberry and her husband, James of Santa Barbara, Calif. Grandchildren include Kevin Marcy and his wife Gina of Acworth, Ga., Heather Ryan and her husband David of Cataula, Ga., Allison Marcy of Kennesaw, Ga., Kori Zappitelli and her husband Kenneth of Conneaut, Sarah Young of Conneaut, Lisa Quinn of Orlando, Fla., Ryan Carberry and his wife Jennifer of Clifton, Colo., and Kiera Taff and her husband Jamie of Carpenteria, Calif. He was especially close to his nieces and nephew Charles Marcy of Conneaut, Mary Jane Lamp of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Jean Brooks of Asheville, N.C., and Marjorie Hunter of Cleveland. There are six great-grandchildren: Wade and Reed Marcy, Morgan and Campbell Ryan, Cody Carberry and Kelsee Taff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Geraldine, his sister, Helen Hyre and his brother Hugh.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ardis-Rhinehart Kremer Home, Conneaut; the United Church of Christ, Conneaut; or the Amber Lake Wildlife Refuge, Englewood, Fla. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Visitation will be at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 19. Service will be at the funeral home on Monday, January 20, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Walter Coy of the United Church of Christ and Rev. Hugh H. Hubbard of Mutual Grace United Methodist Church in Urbana, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut.
Florence M. Dodge
DELANO, Calif. - Florence M. Dodge, 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at UCLA Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Ashtabula, to Joe and Jenny Brown, the youngest of seven children.
She married Gordon Dodge Aug. 20, 1949, after he returned from World War II. They remained in Ashtabula until 1962, when the family relocated to Delano, Calif.
Mrs. Dodge worked from 197284 as a clerk at Delano Elementary School District. She always said she would have liked to be a teacher. Her sweet, gentle nature made her a magnet with children at her job. She and her husband moved to Bakersfield, Calif. when she retired in 1984.
Reading fictional novels was her favorite pastime. While residing in Delano, she and her husband were active in the Methodist Church and enjoyed adventuring with families from their church group. She also liked attending her grandchildren's activities and traveling to Laughlin, Nev., with her husband and friends. She enjoyed slot machines and elaborate state shows best.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Conni Brunni; grandchildren Sean and Derek Dodge, and Clarissa and Nicholas Brunni, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; a brother, Richard of Bowling Green; and a sister, Kay Dadey of Lake Mary, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Dodge, and siblings Joe Brown, Irime Brown, Harold Brown and Jean Porter.
Celebration of life was held Dec. 8 in California, officiated by the Rev. Ron Bane. Family asked that instead of flowers, donations be made to the local American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were handled by Mish Funeral Home, 120 Minner Ave., Bakersfield, Calif.
Jennifer R. Kleja
CONNEAUT - Jennifer R. Kleja, 21, of Mill Street, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa., from injuries sustained in an automobile crash.
She was born April 6, 1981, in Elyria, and had been a lifelong Conneaut resident.
Miss Kleja was a Conneaut High School graduate, where she was a member of the marching band.
She was a senior at Kent State University, Ashtabula Campus, majoring in human services.
Miss Kleja was employed at the Mill Street Dairy Mart and served an internship at the Conneaut Human Resource Center with the Senior and Right Track programs.
She enjoyed most music and dancing.
Survivors include her parents; Tamra Smith and Larry Beals Sr. of Conneaut; two sisters, Kacie M. Kleja of Nashville, Tenn., and Shelly L. Kleja of Conneaut; a stepsister, Jessie L. Beals of Conneaut; two stepbrothers, Larry Beals Jr. and Joseph Beals of Conneaut; maternal grandparents James and Naomi Smith of Baton Rouge, La.; and paternal grandparents, Harry and Martha Beals of Conneaut.
Service is 2 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
No calling hours will be observed. A gathering to celebrate Miss Kleja’s life will be 4 p.m. Monday following the graveside service, in St. Frances Cabrini Hall, 744 Mill St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family in care of the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which has charge of the arrangements.
