Lawrence A. Papotta
CONNEAUT - Lawrence A. "Joe" Papotta, 61, of Harbor St., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, of a probable coronary.
Born Sept. 8, 1939, in Cleveland, he was a son of Maurice and Ella Papotta and had been a Conneaut resident for the past five years.
Mr. Papotta worked as a machinist for Lamotype Corp., Cleveland, for many years.
He enjoyed his family, the outdoors and oldies music.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Lockwood of Conneaut; a son, Joseph of Conneaut; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Marie Gordon of Chester Township; Betty Dolan of Cleveland Heights; and Pauline Krznarich of Brooklyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Louis.
No funeral will be observed.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Dean P. Parks
CONNEAUT - Dean P. Parks, 84, of West Main Road, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in University Hospitals, Cleveland.
Born Aug. 4, 1916, in Caldwell, he was the son of Warner C. and Vernice Elva (Carpenter) Parks.
A 1935 Caldwell High School graduate, Mr. Parks was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his discharge, he worked as a civilian inspector for the Department of the Army at the Ravenna Arsenal for 12 years.
He later moved to Conneaut and worked as a courier for Purolator for 23 years, retiring in 1980. He also worked three years a a security guard for Brown Memorial Hospital.
A 50-year member of the Lucasville Masonic Lodge, he enjoyed gardening, tinkering and repairing things and helping people in the mobile home park.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Joan (Wilson); two daughters, Mary Ellen Schatz of Beaufort, S.C., and Elva Busch of Bridgewater, N.J.; two sons, George of North Kingsville, and Dean of Holland, Ohio; two half-brothers, William and Joseph Parks of Belpre; five grandchildren, Laura Busch, Katheryn and Karrie Schatz, Erin Wires and Brian Parks; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruth Davis and Faye Morrison.
Service is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Ash Welch of East Conneaut United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Calling hours are from noon until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

William V. Quinn
CONNEAUT - William V. Quinn, 89, formerly of Broad Street, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in Villa at the Lake.
Born Feb. 9, 1912, in Oklahoma City, Okla., Mr. Quinn had been a Conneaut resident most of his life.
From 1931 until his retirement in 1962, he owned a radio and television sales and repair business.
He was extremely interested in astrology and history.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Quinn of Girard, Pa., and Laurella Brown of Conneaut; and several grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura.
At the request of the deceased, he be cremated and no service or calling hours will be observed. Burial will be in East Conneaut Cemetery.
Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, has charge of the arrangements.

Helen H. Colver
CONNEAUT - Helen H. Colver, 97, of Conneaut, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at The Villa At The Lake.
Born April 2, 1906, in Conneaut, she was the daughter of Ray C. and Sara (Olds) Hogle.
She attended Dyke Spencerian School and received her teaching certificate from Kent State University. Mrs. Colver was a kindergarten teacher and was employed for a few years in North Kingsville and in East Conneaut, but spent most of her career in the Conneaut Area School District. Following her husband's retirement, they moved to Sebring, FL, where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and its Caraway Class, returning to Conneaut in 1992 following her husband's death. She was a member of East Conneaut United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Christian Family Class, and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the East Conneaut Child Conservation League for 68 years, the Retired Teachers Association, the Salvation Army, and the Garden Club.
She enjoyed traveling and visiting people, and was a family and community historian. Her joy was all of her kindergarten children.
She is survived by a niece; a number of nephews; and more distant relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benjamin C., in 1991, whom she married June 4, 1931; her son, Charles H., in 1958; her grandson, Charles Douglas Colver, in 1971; her brother, Neal Hogle; and her sister, Harriette Kilpatrick.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 21, at 3 p.m. at East Conneaut United Methodist Church, 809 Furnace Rd., Conneaut, with Rev. Armando Arellano and the Rev. Dr. Roger P. Hogle officiating. Burial will be in East Conneaut Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to East Conneaut United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Ashtabula County. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which has charge of arrangements.

John A. Baldwin
CONNEAUT - John Allen Baldwin Jr., 15, of Craytor Avenue in Conneaut, died Sunday, Sept. 15, in Conneaut.
He was born Nov. 3, 1986, in Big Spring, Texas, the son of John Sr. and Ann (Parmely) Baldwin, and was an area resident most of his life.
A freshman at Conneaut High School, he enjoyed riding four-wheelers, spending time with family and friends, drawing pictures and playing on the computer. He also enjoyed baseball and softball, and earned an award for the Most Improved Attitude for the 2002 Adolescent Softball League. He also participated in the LARC Youth Co-Ed Softball team for 2002.
He earned several awards throughout his school years.
Survivors include his parents, of Conneaut; and a brother, Larry Baldwin, at home.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Naomi Baldwin; and maternal grandfather, Franklin Parmely.
Service is 7 p.m. Friday at Amboy United Methodist Church, 554 W. Main Road, Conneaut. The Rev. Gina Kim of the church will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Don Hammer of the First Assembly of God in Ashtabula.
Calling hours at the church are 5 p.m. Friday until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Amboy United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church or the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is in charge of arrangements.

Marion J. Gruey
CONNEAUT - Marion J. Gruey, 81, of Main Street, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut
She was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Ashtabula, the daughter of William Hill (Kallio) and Matilda (Ply) Hill, she later moved to Conneaut.
Mrs. Gruey was a graduate of Ashtabula Harbor High School.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Conneaut and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Jacobs for many years.
She enjoyed reading, her family and he grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, DeStewart; a daughter, Dee Marie Rutherford of Conneaut; a son, Robert Gross of Conneaut; two stepdaughters, Diana Theiss of Sun City, Ariz., and Patricia Hansen of Chubbuck, Idaho; a stepson, Carl Gruey of Kingsville Township; two grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and her first husband, Fred Gross.
Service is 1 p.m., Monday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with the Rev. David Harding of First United Methodist Church, Conneaut officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m., today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
