Raymond H. Clute
WALLER, Texas - Raymond Hubert Clute, 58, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Conneaut, the son of Raymond Dale (Jim) Clute and Ruth Arlene Clute-Henery.
Survivors include his father, of Mentor; his wife, Vera (Bradley) Clute; three daughters, Michelle Belcourt of Hockley, Texas, Thresa Clute of Houston, and Cyndee Freyman of West Palm Beach, Florida; two sisters, Constance G. McKenny and Diana Howe, both of Mentor; two brothers, Rodney C. Clute of Maine, and Terry W. Clute of Florida; and five grandchildren, Tasha and Keith Belcourt, and Melissa, Savana and Summer Freyman.
He was preceded in death by his mother; a sister, Carol E. Turner; and a stepfather, William F. Henery.
Funeral was Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Gateway Christian Fellowship Church in Hockley, Texas. The Rev. James Long officiated. Burial was in Mathis Cemetery.
Canon Funeral Home, 1420 Farr St., Waller, Texas, had charge of arrangements.
Emma A. O'Connor
CONNEAUT - Emma A. O'Connor, 80, of Conneaut, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville Township.
Born Aug. 31, 1920, in Conneaut, she was a daughter of Roy R. and Mona Belle (Richardson) Allen.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, she was a graduate of the former Rowe High School and worked as a stockkeeper for 36 years at RP&C Valve (Strong Steam), in Conneaut and later in Fairview, Pa.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She served as secretary and treasurer of the International Association of Machinists. She also was a member of the Moose Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening, crocheting and knitting.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley M. Spence of Conneaut and Janet C. Lyons of Livingston, N.J.; a sister, Viola M. Brookhouser of Conneaut; three grandchildren, Owen Lyons, Robin Brach and Emily Lyons; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Leslie, Carl, Roy Jr. and Charles Allen.
Service is 1 p.m. Friday at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Peg Welch of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashtabula County Nursing Home Respiratory Unit or to Hospice of Ashtabula County. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mabel E. Hathaway
CONNEAUT - Mabel E. Hathaway, 91, formerly of Parrish Road, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 200, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
The daughter of Thomas P. and Jessie M. (Rumbaugh) Rohrer, she was born Nov. 8, 1908 in Albion, Pa.
Mrs. Hathaway taught at the former Kidders Corners and the Cherry Hill schools in the Albion area. She graduated from Edinboro State Teachers College and taught elementary classes at Rowe and Chestnut schools in Conneaut, retiring in 1971.
She was a member of First Assembly of God, the Women's Prayer Group and Ohio State Teachers Association. She enjoyed baking and traveling.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol A. Jakab of Pittsburgh; one son, Daniel D. II of Marion, Ind.; two sisters: Laura Walton of Hornell, N.Y., and Grace Fetterolf of Lake Wales, Fla.; one brother, Clarence Rohrer of Erie, Pa.; five grandchildren: Bobby, Dana, John J., Nanci and Pam; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel D. Hathaway; two brothers: Thomas P. and Lewis A. Rohrer; and two sisters: Kay Blood and Aldea Blood.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Fred Schmidt, assisted by the Rev. Jack Woods of First Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be in East Conneaut Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the building fund of First Assembly of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Anna C. Schmidt
CONNEAUT - Anna C. Schmidt, formerly of West Main Road, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at the Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
Neal T. Ansbro
CONNEAUT - Neal T. Ansbro, 76, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Cleveland, the son of John and Viola (Kehoe) Ansbro.
Mr. Ansbro was a graduate of St. Patrick's grade school and later went on to attend and graduate from trade school in the Cleveland area. He went to work as an autobody repairman for Dod-Fader Oldsmobile. He also worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad and the Conneaut Rubber Co., and was a member of the Conneaut Fire Department for many years. He was most notably known for more than 36 years as an excellent autobody repairman for the former Dean Wilbe Oldsmobile dealership.
Mr. Ansbro was a member of St. Mary's Church in Conneaut. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Conneaut Council #624 and was also a 4th Degree Knight, former Grand Knight and current Financial Secretary.
He enjoyed boating with his family, water-skiing, gardening, golf, roller skating with his grandchildren, woodworking, remodeling and stain glass. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, the Knights of Columbus, and his neighbors.
Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Malbasa of Bratenahl; two sons, Shawn C. of Columbus and Samuel J. of Conneaut; a brother, Bartley Joseph Ansbro of Cleveland; two sisters, Eileen Walsch of Detroit, Mich., and Mary Ruth Krejsa of Cleveland; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maribel H. Stofko in 2000; a daughter, Sarah Beth Ansbro in 1984; one brother, John (Jack) Ansbro; and three sisters, Marie Nettger, Viola Funk and Katherine Wagner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Church, 480 State Street, Conneaut. The Rev. Raymond Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Conneaut.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.
The Knights of Columbus will conduct prayer services at 7 p.m. and vigil services will be held at 8:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus of Catholic Daughters of America with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Benava E. Lezak
REDONDO BEACH, Calif. - Benava E. Lezak, 92, formerly of Ashtabula, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at her son's house in Redondo Beach, Calif. She was born Oct. 13, 1910, in Union City, Ind., the daughter of John E. and Sarah A. MacKey.
She owned and operated Primrose Beauty Shop in Ashtabula from 1929 until her retirement in 1984.
She was a former charter member of the Altrusa Club in Ashtabula and a member of the Ohio Hairdressers Association.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon E. Carter Jr. of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Leslie F. Lezak of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Craig McIntyre, Harold McIntyre, Kyle Carter, Coy Carter, Elicia Schuller, Antonio Carter-Loza, April Stiteler and Kacey Lezak; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew Lezak; a granddaughter, Josephine Loza; and a grandson, Zachary Lezak.
Service is 1 p.m. Thursday at Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Michael Legg of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery in Ashtabula.

Katie R. Whitman
CONNEAUT - Katie R. Whitman, 21, of Conneaut, died early Sunday evening at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Katie was born in Conneaut March 20, 1981, to Jean (Dickey) and Gary Whitman. She was a graduate of Conneaut High School's Class of 1999, attended Edinboro University and Kent State UniversityAshtabula, and was working toward her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
Katie was employed at Orlando Brothers Golden Dawn in Conneaut since 1997.
She was involved in CLYO Soccer, the All-County Soccer Team, and was a soccer referee. She enjoyed the outdoors, horseback riding, jet skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, traveling, camping, and shopping with friends and family.
Katie was a longtime member of the Wildfire dance team, was a candy striper at Brown Memorial Hospital, and volunteered for the Right Track program. Katie was proud to be a Two-Gallon Blood Donor for the American Red Cross.
Katie is survived by her mother, Jean (Dickey) Whitman, of Conneaut; her father and stepmother, Gary and Lisa (Pike) Whitman, of Conneaut; her brother, Rob Whitman of Sebring, Fla.; two stepbrothers, Ronny and Donny Zuchowski of Conneaut; her maternal grandmother, Bernice Dickey of Conneaut; and her paternal grandmother, Joyce Rangel of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Joe Dickey, and her paternal grandfather, Robert E. Whitman; and by her step-grandfather Gil Rangel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

Elvera E. Saak
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Elvera E. Saak, 79, of Tallahassee, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 31, 1923, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Arthur N. and Frances Edwards.
Mrs. Saak was a 1940 graduate of Ashtabula High School.
She was active in the Christian Science Church and had retired from the purchasing department at Florida State University.
Mrs. Saak was interested in the Sierra Club, the Nature Conservancy and World War II veterans associations.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Pearce and Nancy S. Taylor, both of Tallahassee; two sons, Paul Saak of New York City, and Don Saak of Salt Lake City; and a brother, Walter N. Edwards of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents.
A memorial service was held Dec. 13 at the Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel, Tallahassee, Fla.
Instead of giving flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, P.O. Box 1875, Tallahassee, Fla. 32302; the Sierra Club; the Nature Conservancy; or any World War II veterans association.
