George A. Collar Jr.
CONNEAUT - George A. Collar Jr., 78, of Main Street, died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Wade Park Veteran's Affairs Hospital, Cleveland.
Born Aug. 14, 1922, in Conneaut, he was a son of George A. and Matilda Collar and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Collar was a self-employed carpenter for more than 50 years and also sailed the Great Lakes for a few years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Corps, flying P51 Mustangs with the Flying Tigers unit.
He was past commander of American Legion Cowle Post 151 of which he was a member for more than 50 years.
He enjoyed woodworking and making wood sculptures.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, to whom he had been married 41 years; four daughters, Karen Muskoff of Strongsville, Brenda Kraus of Conneaut, and twin daughters Patricia Collar of North Olmsted and Peggy McCray of Elyria; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Palugyay of Utica, Mich.; and a brother, Fred of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary.
Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Tim Kraus of Conneaut Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted.
Calling hours are from noon until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

CONNEAUT - Rose M. Johnson, 81 of Industrial Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, in the Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the March Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.

CONNEAUT - Raymond W. Roach, 81, formerly of Conneaut died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Glenda Sauerwein
CONNEAUT - Glenda Sauerwein, 52 died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.
Anna C. Schmidt
CONNEAUT - Anna C. Schmidt, 85, formerly of West Main Road Conneaut died Friday, Sept. 21 at Inn-Conneaut Health Center. She was born April 16, 1915 in Grand River.
She was the daughter of the late William F. and Anna F. (Robinson) Schmidt.
She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Edinboro State Teachers College, Edinboro, Penna., and taught in the Buckeye School System for 30 years, retiring in 1983. She also attended central Bible College in Missouri and Southwestern Bible College in Texas and was a licensed minister with the Assembies of God. She was instrumental in starting churches in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Conneaut and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include three sisters, Marie Roberts and Jessie Andes both of Conneaut and Betty Thome of North Kingsville; and three brothers, Fredrick of Newcomerstown, and William and Daniel both of Conneaut.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Marcy funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut with the Rev. Jack D. Woods of the First Assembly of God officiating, assisted by the Rev. Fred Schmidt. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory gardens, North Kingsville.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missionary Fund of First Assembly of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Martha J. Novak
CONNEAUT - Martha J. Novak, 78, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at her home.
She was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Cleveland, the daughter of Robert C. and Althea (Cummins) Webb.
Mrs. Novak was a graduate of Shaker Heights High School and Dyke Business College in Cleveland and became a legal secretary.
She moved to Conneaut in 1970 and was active in the Conneaut Community Center and many community affairs.
Survivors include her husband, James J.; a daughter, Rhonda Louise Alperin of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, George L. of Denver, Pa., and Kenneth E. of North Kingsville; and a sister, Esther Callahan of Kingsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Ruth Louise, at birth.
Graveside service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Center Cemetery, Conneaut, with the Rev. Stephen Szilagyi officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Conneaut Community Center or to the Conneaut Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which has charge of the arrangements.
Glenda Sauerwein
CONNEAUT - Glenda Sauerwein, 52, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
The daughter of Beverly and Millie Hall, she was born Feb. 2, 1948, in Martin, Ky.
Mrs. Sauerwein attended Martin High School, and later moved to the Conneaut area, where she was a nurse's aide at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was an avid Cleveland Browns' fan, and enjoyed taking care of children, family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Marty, whom she married Nov. 6, 1971, in Winchester, Va.; two sons: Vic and Verdun, both of Conneaut; three brothers: Howard Hall of Illinois, Willard Hall of Dayton and Shirl Hall of Ashtabula; three sisters: Madge Hobert, and Leuna Jones, both of East McDowell, Ky., and Martha Pack of Elizabeth Town, Ky.; and two grandchildren: Denver and Kassidy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Claudette Tackett; and two brothers: Edgel and James Oakley.
There will be private services and no calling hours.

Rose M. Johnson
CONNEAUT - Rose M. Johnson, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at the Hospice Unit at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
The daughter of Frank and Catherine Brogley, she was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was a Conneaut resident for 47 years.
Mrs. Johnson was a welder for the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later worked as an assembler at the former Astatic Corp. in Conneaut.
She attended St. Mary's Church, and was a member of C.S.A., Czechoslovakian Society Lodge 4, Groveton, Pa. She enjoyed cooking, housekeeping, polka dancing, and bowling.
Survivors include her husband, Howard W., whom she married March 5, 1954; five brothers: and George, Steve and William Brogley, and Adolf and Charles Placek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Frank Placek; and three brothers: John and Frank Brogley, and Joseph Placek.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas, of St. Mary's and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Churches, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 1 p.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
