Margaret L. Flack
CONNEAUT - Margaret L. Flack, 58, of South Parrish Road, Conneaut, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002 at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 28, 1944 in Syracuse, N.Y., and was a daughter of John "Jack" and Violet (Rossiter) Frost.
Mrs. Flack was a Conneaut resident since 1946, she was employed for 16 years in the housekeeping department at Brown Memorial Hospital. She attended Amboy United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking, candy making, fishing, camping and most sports.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd L. Flack, whom she married Nov. 23, 1968; a daughter, Karen A. Brooks of Conneaut; two sisters, Kathy Hicks of Syracuse, N.Y. and Gayle Fertig of Conneaut; one brother Bill Frost of Conneaut and three grandchildren, Josh, Jonathon and Lela Brooks.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Gina Kim, pastor of Amboy United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Conneaut Rescue Squad or to Hospice of Ashtabula County. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
William Capela
MURPHY, N.C. - William (Bill) Capela, 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, in a Murphy, N.C., health care facility.
A former Conneaut resident, he was the son of Joseph and Louise Capela. Mr. Capela had lived in Florida before moving to North Carolina in 1980.
He had worked as a foreman for the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, retiring in 1960.
He was a member of St. William Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary Wanamaker Capela; two sisters, Jean and Florence Capela, both of Conneaut; and a brother, Richard of North Kingsville.
Mr. Capela was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 7 at St. William Church, with the Rev. George Kloster officiating.

Arnold A. Laine
CONNEAUT - Arnold A. (Archie) Laine, 81, of Mill Street, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at University Hospital, Cleveland, following a short illness.
Born Jan. 1, 1921, in Conneaut, he was a son of Anton and Selma (Parkomaki) Laine.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, he was a 1939 Conneaut High School graduate and served on the reunion planning committees. He was a carpenter by trade and worked for several area contractors, including Loomis and Laituri, John Wirkkala, Jim Bunnell and Waino Mackey, before retiring from the Pittsburgh and Conneaut Dock Co.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Italian and North African theaters of operation. He was a member and past commander of Cowle Post 151, American Legion.
Mr. Laine was a member of the Democratic Party and was interested in government affairs and politics. He enjoyed watching C-Span I and C-Span II to keep up with current affairs.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He enjoyed outside work, wildlife, his family and especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Helen M. (Surma), whom he married May 26, 1945; two daughters, Cindy A. Downs of Yorktown, Va., and Janie K. Laine of Ashtabula; a son, Greg A., of Sugar Land, Texas; a sister, Viola Halkola of Hancock, Mich.; two brothers, Raymond of Conneaut, and Donald of Cedarburg, Wis., nine grandchildren, Jennifer Vincent, Jessica Downs, Timothy, Kristen and Melissa Haight, John Loeffel Jr., Erika Loeffel, Melanie and Eric Laine, and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas of St. Mary's and St. Frances Cabrini Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, with the American Legion conducting military rites.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Adeline M. Malizia
MESA, Ariz. - Adeline Miles Malizia, 92, formerly of Ashtabula, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in Mesa, Ariz.
Born Aug. 27, 1909, in Cosenza, Italy, she was the daughter of Rosario and Concetta (Buccieri) Furgiule. She came to the United States at age 20 and lived most of her life in Ashtabula.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Ashtabula.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Buona of Mesa, Ariz., with whom she made her home for the past 2 1/2 years; two sons, Peter of Ashtabula and Eugene of Willoughby; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, and a son, Samuel.
Service is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Lake Ave., Ashtabula. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
Gerald F. "Jerry" Brookhouser, Sr.
CONNEAUT - Gerald F. "Jerry" Brookhouser, Sr., 85, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000 at Brown Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
A Conneaut resident for more than 60 years, Mr. Brookhouser was born January 11, 1915 in N. Girard, Pa., the son of Frank O. and Olive T. (Fish) Brookhouser.
He was employed for 26 years as a maintenance supervisor at the former Astatic Corporation and retired from the maintenance department of General Electric in 1980. An outstanding craftsman and mechanic, he at one time owned and operated Jerry's Printing, J.B.R. Archery, and Bushnell Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. His varied interests included archery, lapidary, woodworking, and carving. He built toys and cradles for all of his great-grandchildren. He built a number of homes in which he made the bricks used in construction, and had traveled in 48 of the 50 states. He was also the former field archery champion of Ohio and built archery equipment.
Mr. Brookhouser was an active member of the Edgewood Alliance Church of Kingsville, and a member and Deacon of the Zephyrhills Alliance Church of Zephyrhills, Fla. He served as Chaplain of both the National Campers and Travelers, and at the Paco General Hospital in Zephyrhills, Fla. Mr. Brookhouser was a member of Evergreen Lodge #222 F&AM, Sociable CBers, Buckeye Brothers #4, the G.E. Breakfast Club, Rose Chapter #22, Order of the Eastern Star, local Boy Scouts, and helped build Travelers Woods in Garrettsville, Ohio. He and his son Budd just finished restoring a Model "A" Ford. He was a member of the Model "A" Restorers Club.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Viola Marie (Allen) Brookhouser; two daughters, Evelyn Swanson of Fort Myers, Fla. and Kathryn L. Richavy of Cleveland; two sons, Gerald "Budd" Brookhouser of East Springfield, Pa. and E. Richard Brookhouser of Tampa, Fla.; brother Richard Brookhouser of Brooksville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brookhouser was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elmer and Fred.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Edgewood Alliance Church, Rt. 193, Kingsville. The Rev. Keith McKenzie will officiate. Evergreen Lodge #222 will conduct a service at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Kelloggsville Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, and at the church Thursday from noon until the time of the service.
Contributions are suggested to the building fund of the church.
Margaret Catherine Potvin
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Margaret Catherine Potvin, 81, of Albuquerque, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000.
She was born March 27, 1919, in Conneaut, the daughter of Omer and Margaret (Huttenhower) Laughlin. She had been an Albuquerque resident since 1960.
She was a long-time member of St. John's United Methodist Church and was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority.
Survivors include daughters Mary Muller of Walnut Creek, Calif., Martha Reich of Red Oak, Texas, and Michelle Weddell of San Jacinto, Calif.; sons Louis J. Potvin of Galloway, Laurence Potvin of Payson, Ariz., and Gary Potvin of Albuquerque; sisters Winnie Anderson of Conneaut and Mildred Jaster of Lakewood; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Louis R. Potvin, in 1980.
Services were held Sept. 14, 2000, in Albuquerque. Burial was at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
The French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., Albuquerque, was in charge of arrangements.
