Ruth Spaulding
NEW YORK - Ruth A. Spaulding, 52, of Hatches Corners Rd., Monroe Township, died Friday, July 25, 2003, in Rochester General Hospital, Rochester, New York.
Born in Conneaut, Sept. 28, 1950, she was the daughter of Otis and the late Marjorie (Hogle) Anderson. Mrs. Spaulding resided in Rochester, NY for several years, where she worked for the Rochester School District as a secretary, then moved to Atlanta, GA., where she was employed by the Public Storage Co. as a manger for 5 years. She moved back to Monroe Township in July of 2002.
She was a member of the State Line Untied Methodist Church, and was a member of the Monroe Sirens.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, and cooking.
Surviros include her husband Robert of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Marjorie and Shannon Spaulding, both of Rochester, her father Otis Anderson of Monroe Township, 5 grandchildren, and a brother, David J. Anderson of Monroe Township.
Beside her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister Mary Jane Anderson, and a grandson, A.J. Spaulding.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, with the Rev. Roger P. Hogle, pastor of the South Ridge Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Richard Smith of the State Line United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Kelloggsville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. The family suggests that memorials be made in her name to the State Line United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Paul R. Reed
CONNEAUT - Paul R. Reed, Sr., 82 of JoAnn Drive, Conneaut, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the Villa at the Lake.
Born in Dorset, Ohio, April 16, 1921, the son of the late William and Mabel (Tuttle) Reed, he had lived in the Conneaut and Kingsville area most of his life. Mr. Reed served on the Lakeville Police Force as a patrolman, and served as the Chief of Police for three years.
He retired from the Hanna Steamship Lines as an engineer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served during World War II. In his leisure times, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph Britcher of Ashtabula, and Paul R. Reed, Jr., of Jackson, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Britcher, Paul Reed and Melissa Carpenter; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Hatch of Kingsville, Frances Hatch of Franklin, North Carolina, Louise Scott of North Carolina, and Jeanette Hinkle of Hollywood, Florida; and two brothers, Raymond Reed of Kingsville, and Robert Reed of Sandusky, Ohio.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary J. Reed, two brothers, John and Howard Reed, and two sisters, Grace Kotnick and Lillian Stevens.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29th, at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, with Tim Kraus, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service. Following cremation, interment will be made in Edgewood Cemetery.
Ralph J. Otto
ANDERSON, S.C. - Ralph Jay Otto, 86, formerly of Ashtabula, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
He was born April 3, 1916, to Harry and Nora (Randall) Otto. He was of the Presbyterian faith and was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in World War II.
Mr. Otto was married to Lois G. Otto for 56 years.
Survivors include his wife, of Anderson, S.C.; a son, Bruce Otto of Williamston, S.C.; daughters Susan Otto and Jeanette Wood, both of Anderson; a brother, Glenn Otto of Ashtabula; sisters Theo Poros and Mary Frambach, both of Ashtabula; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Otto.
Mr. Otto remains will be cremated, and burial will follow at a later date.
Woodlawn Funeral Home, 3219 S. Main St., Anderson, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.
Charles C. Hoadley
LARGO, Fla. - Charles C. Hoadley, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Palm Garden of Pinellas of complications of multiple sclerosis.
Born in Ashtabula, Mr. Hoadley moved to Florida in 1963. At one point, he worked as a steam engineer at a local power plant.
He was a member of St. Justin Martyr Church, Largo. While living in Ohio, he had been a member of B.P.O. Elks.
Survivors include his wife, Annabelle G.; two sons: John C. of Lutz, Fla., and James E. of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Justin Martyr Church, Largo.
The Moss-Feaster Funeral Home-Serenity Gardens Chapel, 19401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, Fla., is in charge of the arrangements.
H. Charles Thomas
CONNEAUT - H. Charles (Kobb) Thomas, 75, of Main Street died Friday, July 26, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Thomas was born Dec. 4, 1926, in Painesville, the son of Harold C. and Etta (Sidley) Thomas.
There will be no calling hours or services.
Burial will be in Mechanicsville Cemetery.
Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, is handling arrangements.
Fred H. Distelrath
CONNEAUT - Fred H. Distelrath, 62, of West Main Road, Conneaut, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1940, in Ashtabula, the son of Henry and Lola (Vasbinder) Distelrath, and spent most of his life in Conneaut.
He was employed by White Consolidated in Fairview, Pa., and retired in 1975 due to his health.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and in his leisure time enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and cooking. He was a member of the BPO Elks No. 256, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 408.
Survivors include his wife, the former Linda Snyder, to whom he had been married the past 39 years; a daughter, Lisa Kelly of Conneaut; a son, Sean Distelrath of Conneaut; three grandchildren, Herb, Nick and Gina Kelly; three sisters, Mary Eighmy of Conneaut, Carole Heath of Kissimmee, Fla., and Anna Leonard of Ashtabula; and a brother, Charles Distelrath of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Shirley Warren and Loretta Jones; and a brother, Arthur Distelrath.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut. Private interment will be made on Friday.
