Charles J. Justice
CONNEAUT - Charles J. Justice, 86, of Fifield Ave., Conneaut, died Monday Jan. 28, 2002, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 11, 1915, in Conneaut, the son of Charles and Ethel (Hollopeter) Justice.
Mr. Justice was a lifelong Conneaut resident, he managed Conneaut Auto Parts, and eventually retired after 60 years as president of Sanborn Motor Co. in Ashtabula.
He was a 75-year member of First Baptist Church; Evergreen Lodge 222 F & A.M. and was a 32nd degree Mason.
Mr. Justice enjoyed his family, his work, golfing, traveling and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Chapman) whom he married Oct. 20, 1935 in Ripley, N.Y.; a daughter, Judith Smolka of South Euclid; a son Charles J. Justice II of Mentor; three grandchildren, Mary Jill Nilsen, Joel Smolka and Charles J. Justice III; three step-grandchildren, Kimberly Tramte, Deborah Coughlin and Phillip VanTilburg; six great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth Palo; and his brother, Donald Justice.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Todd Regester of First Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ernest M. Taylor
CONNEAUT - Ernest M. Taylor Sr., 84, of Sandusky St., Conneaut, died Monday Jan. 28, 2002, at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland.
He was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Scott Haven, Pa., the son of Grover C. and Temperance (Morrell) Taylor.
Mr. Taylor moved to Conneaut 57 years ago from Youngstown.
He was employed as production manager at the former Astatic Corp., retiring after 48 years.
Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in World War II as staff sergeant specializing as a radar technician in the Asian Theater.
He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Conneaut, a Red Cross disaster team volunteer and, as such, traveled throughout the world where ever he was needed. Mr. Taylor also volunteered at Brown Memorial Hospital.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and photography.
Survivors include his wife, Grace (Andrews) Taylor, whom he married June 28, 1941; three sons, Ernest M. Taylor, Jr., of Cheyenne, Wyo; Gilbert M. Taylor and Jeffrey S. Taylor, both of Conneaut; a brother, Clair Taylor of Youngstown; eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Louis in childhood and Thomas and Robert Taylor; and a sister, Tempie Taylor.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Robert Brooks, pastor of Wesleyan Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut.
There will be on calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Ashtabula County, 2420 Lake Ave., Ashtabula.

Norma J. Sass
CONNEAUT - Norma J. Sass, 66,, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital, Claridon Township, where she had been recovering from heart surgery.
Born June 29, 1935, in Conneaut, she was the daughter of Louis and Madeline (Gildone) Simone.
A 1953 Conneaut High School graduate, she moved to the Cleveland area and became an administrative secretary, where she meet and married her first husband Andrew Sass in 1957. They moved to Fort Campbell, Ky., where he was stationed. She moved back to the Berea to raise her family. Her husband was killed in 1964 in an automobile crash and she returned to Conneaut and worked part-time for the American Automobile Club. She also worked for the law firm of Diamond and Dubsky as a legal secretary. She was appointed clerk of courts for Conneaut from 1986 to 1991. She retired from the Port Conneaut Federal Credit Union in 2000 as a loan officer following a 20-year career with the credit union.
Mrs. Sass was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church and was also member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 86. She cherished time she spent with her grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking and bowling.
Survivors include two sons, Andrew of Grand Ledge, Mich., Michael of Conneaut; a daughter, Diana Angiulo of Stow; a stepson, Randy of Lynchburg, Va., a stepdaughter, Virginia Sass of Appomatox, Va., a brother, Samuel Simone of Conneaut, four sisters, Ruth Dean of Austinburg Township, Amy Coppola of Conneaut, Nancy Rolfe of Hubbard, Esther Albergo of Lynnbrook, N.Y., and six grandchildren, Andrew, Katie, Kimberly, Karen, Randy and Amber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Andrew; her second husband Albert F., in 1983; and a brother, Joseph Simone.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill St., Conneaut, with Rev. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

Naomi K. Schlaich
CONNEAUT - Naomi K. Schlaich, 68, of John Ave., died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at home.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, she was born April 28, 1934, the daughter of Irad P. and Georgia (Hazeltine) Felch. She married George Schlaich on Aug. 14, 1953, at East Conneaut United Methodist Church.
She was a 1953 Conneaut High School graduate and was a member of East Conneaut United Methodist Church, where she served as maintenance worker for 40 years. She enjoyed working and being with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Linda Gillespie of Conneaut; a son, Paul of Conneaut; five grandchildren, Josh and Paul Schlaich, Allison and Jordan Fertig, and Meghan Gillespie; her twin sister, Norma Palo of Monroe Township, and her brother, George "Joe" Felch of Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Doris Bearce, and two brothers, Irad "Skeet" Felch Jr., and Cy Holcomb.
Service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at East Conneaut United Methodist Church, 809 Furnace Road, Conneaut, with the Rev. Armando Arellano officiating, assisted by her nephew, the Rev. Vernon Palo of Plymouth United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the mausoleum of Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.

Marie E. Socko
CONNEAUT - Marie E. Socko, formerly of East 21st Street, Ashtabula, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born April 8, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Claude H. and Mary E. (Wendel) Maginnis.
An Ohio resident for the past seven years, she previously lived for 40 years in Jamestown, Pa. She was a member of St. Phillips Church, Linesville, Pa., and the Ladies Fire Auxiliary, Hartstown, Pa.
She and her husband owned Hartstown Golf Course for 18 years, and operated Iron City Window Cleaning Co. for 17 years.
She enjoyed cooking, traveling, shopping and collecting Beanie Babies.
Survivors include her daughter, Claudia Nieder of St. Louise, Mo.; her son, Michael of North Kingsville; four grandchildren, Dwane Nieder, Michael Socko III, Thomas Socko and Danice Bartos; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael; a sister, Anna Mae Layman, and a brother, Claude Maginnis.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Michael Balash officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Coraopolis, Pa.
Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.

Dora E. Megyesi
CONNEAUT - Dora E. Megyesi, 83, of State Street, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Greensburg, Pa., the daughter of Wallace and Alma (Olin) Monroe and had lived in Conneaut most of her life.
Mrs. Megyesi was employed by Conneaut Area City Schools as an elementary school teacher and taught at the former Broad Street School, Southeast School and retired from Chestnut Elementary School after 30 years of service.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Salem Rebekkah Lodge. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, sewing and being with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, John, to whom she had been married for 59 years; two daughters, Janice Jenkins of Naples, Fla., and Joan Walker of Conneaut; five grandchildren; eight grand-children; and a sister, Beatrice Rothel of Boca Raton, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Walter Coy of the Conneaut United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Lulu Falls Cemetery, Kingsville Township.
