Emil Louis Severtis, age 85, passed away Aug. 26, 2001 at Hospice Care Center after a brief illness. Born in Barberton, OH, Emil lived in the Akron area most of his life. He was employed as a butcher and meat manager at Schmidt's Supermarket for 16 years and the Co-op Stores for 20 years. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and Lecturer. Preceded in death by his wife, Lauretta, in 1991; sister, Irene Basile. Survived by son, Dr. Ronald (Anita) Severtis of North Canton; grandchildren, Lisa Higgins, Shawna DeVoe and Ronald Severtis, II; great-granddaughter, Laurel DeVoe; brother, Louis Severtis of Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Annunciation Catholic Church, 87 Broad St., Akron, with Fr. Paul J. Rosing officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Joseph Bosler
Joseph Bradley Bosler, age 45, of Louisville, died Sunday, August 26, 2001 unexpectedly in Aultman Hospital. He was a life resident of the Louisville area, graduating from Louisville High School in 1974. He was a self-employed carpenter. Joe was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Survived by his parents, Robert and Eva (Brill) Bosler of Louisville; one sister, Kathy Foltz of Waynesburg; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Bill Bruder of East Canton, Jeff Bosler of Louisville, Dan and Pam Bosler of Minerva, Tim Bosler of Virginia Beach, VA; two nieces, Jennifer Bosler and Amy Foltz. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton, with Pastor Andrew Hamilton officiating. Interment in Center Church Cemetery. Margaret E. Ketler, age 89, of Canton, died Sunday morning in Canton Regency Health Center. Born and raised in Canton, Mrs. Ketler was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Charter member PEO, Chapter BL and the Canton Woman's Club. Survivors include her husband, Paul M. Ketler to whom she would have been married 67 years on Sept. 29; two daughters, Mrs. William (Susan) Wise of Canton and Mrs. Larry (Cindy) Jensen of Middletown, MD; three grandchildren, Pamela Wise of Cincinnati, Karen Jensen of Middletown, MD and Mike Jensen (Keli) of New Market, MD. Funeral service will be Wednesday 1:30 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW, with Rev. C. David Morgan officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Peter M. Ranalli Sr.
Peter M. Ranalli Sr., age 80, of Canton, passed away Sunday afternoon. A life resident of Canton, he was retired from Republic Steel where he worked as a general foreman. A member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, he was a Euchrist Minister and usher of the church. He was the President and CEO of Republic Steel Credit Union for over 37 years, Financial Secretary for the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Joseph Ct. #1301, President of the 1961 Canton Bulldogs Semi-Pro football team and the Chairman of the Building and Volunteer Workers Committee that built the ‘Original' Central Catholic Football Stadium. Preceded in death by his parents, John V. and Elizabeth M. (Depasquale) Ranalli; infant son, Peter; and brother, Albert Ranalli. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Mulig) Ranalli; son and daughter-in-law, Peter Jr. and Sally Ranalli of Canton; daughters and sons-in-law, Cherylon Higgins of Canton, Darlene and Joe Ross, Debbie and Todd Lensman, all of North Canton; grandchildren, Kimberly Dameworth, Daniel Higgins, Kelsey Lensman, Todd Lensman II; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Ethel, Frank and Nina, Anthony and Violet, Robert and Sue, Richard and Jackie, Gary and Millie Ranalli all of Canton; numerous nieces; nephews; and his pal and constant companion, his loving dog Heidi. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. He was a man that loved his family above all else. He lived for his wife, children, and grandchildren. The most important thing to him was to be with them. His grandchildren were the Apple of his eye. It was very important to him to teach his children good values in all aspects of life. Our father was a success in everything he did, but we will always remember you Dad, for your greatest success of all, and that is being the greatest father to us. Versel L. Himes, age 73, of Canton, died Sunday evening in Mercy Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Philippi, WV, he had resided here since 1973. He retired from LTV Steel in 1994. Preceded in death by his wife, Carol Himes in 1993, also preceded by a sister, Virginia Starkey. Survivors include daughter, Mary DeLong of Canton; one grandson; and one granddaughter; half sister, Vivian Bennett of Philippi, WV. Memorial service will be Thursday 11 a.m. in Westbrook Park United Methodist Church with Rev. James Scott officiating. Interment and services will be in West Virginia at a later date. Robert C. Johnson
Life race has been run and now comes peaceful rest for Robert Calvin Johnson age 66.
Robert went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 24, 2001. Robert was born June 30, 1935 in Canton, OH to the late Calvin and Helen Johnson. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Helen Johnson, one son, Ronald Stokes Sr., two sisters, Christine Johnson and Jacqueline (Jackie) Johnson. Robert served in the United State Air Force and received a Honorable Discharge on July 31, 1956. Robert retired from the Republic Steel Company with 43 years of service. Robert accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Robert leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Alice Johnson of the home; two sons, Anthony Reese and Brian Johnson; five daughters, Sharlene (Reese) Gourick, Carolyn Williams, Patty (Jerry) Williams, Tatianna Johnson, Umbola Griffin; two brothers and sister-in-law, James (Josephine) Johnson of Columbus, OH and Frank (Margaret) Johnson of Canton, OH; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Mrs. Lillie Johnson of Canton; one special nephew, Marvin (Kim) Johnson and a special and dear family friend, Vanessa Stergios and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins and other relatives and friends. Services to be held Thursday August 30, 2001 at 12 Noon from Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1403 13th St. SE, Canton with calling hours from 10 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. at the church before services with Pastor C.A. Richmond officiating. Celesta Louise Weingart, age 68, of North Benton, died Thursday evening at the Alliance Community Hospital. Daughter of the late Florian C. and Mildred (Stoffer) Woolf. She is survived by husband, Claire F.; five sons, Jeffrey L of Ravenna, Jon P. of Massillon, Jerry S. of Homeworth, Jason F. of New Castle, PA, Joel F. of Nashville, TN; two daughters, Catherine L Loudon of Beloit and Cynthia L. Hoffman of Alliance; one sister, Linda Hute of Salem; a brother, Robert Woolf of Beloit; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. Private services will be held Saturday at the Stark Memorial, 1014 E. State St., Salem, OH.
Charles L. Godwin
Charles L. Godwin, age 70, of Minerva, died Friday morning in the Great Trail Care Center, Minerva, following an extended illness. Son of the late Thomas and Clara (Brunner) Godwin. He was a Minerva area resident for the past 16 years, retiring from Republic Steel in 1985. He was a Korean War Army veteran. Also preceded in death by one brother, Thomas P. Godwin. Survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Regena and Dean Sills of East Canton. There will be no services. His wishes were to be cremated. The Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Home in East Canton, is in charge of arrangements.
Dale F. Moock
Dale F. Moock, age 79, of North Canton died unexpectedly Thursday in Aultman Hospital. He was an Army Veteran of World War II retiring from Ohio Bell in 1983 after 43 years service. Member of North Canton Elks BPOE #2029. Survived by his wife, Phyllis of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbi and Joe Gerwens of Parkland, FL, and Kathy Ben Bush of North Canton; son, David Moock of North Canton; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Mary Ricketts of Canton. North Canton Elks will conduct funeral services 3 p.m. Sunday in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday 1-3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Dorothy Hill-Rickey
Dorothy Hill-Rickey, age 96, of Canton, died Thursday after a brief illness. Born in Zoar, she lived in Canton most of her life. She was a member of Unity Church of Truth. Preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Rickey; two sisters; four brothers. Survived by her daughter, Dorothea Myers; a son, Paul Hill, both of Canton; four granddaughters and their spouses, Sandy and Thomas Silverthorn of North Canton, Pam and Fred Geissinger of Canton, Allyson and Jack Collins of Phoenix, AZ, and April Myers of East Canton; eleven great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Rev. Patricia Lee officiating. Burial in West Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday one hour before the service.
