Brian L. Herter
NORTH KINGSVILLE - Brian L. Herter, 33, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002.
He was born Jan. 15, 1969, in Meridan, Conn., the son of Wilfred and Susan (Myers) Herter. He was a 1987 Edgewood Senior High School graduate.
He married Robinette Vasey on May 19, 1994.
Mr. Herter served in the U.S. Army for four years.
He worked for Millennium Inorganic Chemicals for the past eight years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing, softball, and NASCAR racing, but most especially the time he spent with his family.
Mr. Herter was a member of the Moose Lodge in Conneaut and the Ashtabula Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his parents, of Kingsville Township; his wife; his daughter, Heather, and son, Casey, at home; two brothers, Jeffery of Andover and Jeremy of Conneaut; a sister, Megan Ogren of Kingsville Township; paternal grandparents Wilfred and Patricia of South Fork, Pa.; his maternal grandmother, Gladys Myers and paternal great-grandmother, Catherine Thiel, both of Johnstown, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Paul Myers.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will be in Lu Lu Falls Cemetery, Kingsville Township.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Betty J. Van Slyke
NORTH KINGSVILLE - Betty Jane (Lee) Van Slyke, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2012.
The daughter of Howard D. and Laura (Austin) Lee she was born February 21, 1922 in Erie, Pennsylvania and moved to North Kingsville at a young age. She was a graduate of North Kingsville High School and had been employed by Edgewood High School; working in the cafeteria.
She married her husband, Kenneth Van Slyke, on December 29, 1945 and together they celebrated fifty-five years of marriage prior to his passing in March of 2001.
Betty was a member of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church for many years with her husband Ken. She and Ken traveled to Europe many times. They enjoyed visiting Germany, Austria, Italy and the British Isles. In all of their travels Betty felt most at home in Ireland. She loved the countryside and the people she met. She also crocheted afghans and was an accomplished needlepoint artist. Many of her family and friends were the recipients of her beautiful handiwork. She enjoyed the company of her dog, Cuddles. A wonderful mom, grandma, and great grandma, she will be remembered for her strength of character, courage and dignity, and her deep abiding love for her family.
She is survived by her sons, James L. (Laurel) Van Slyke of Kingsville and David R. Van Slyke of North Kingsville; grandson, David L. (Sara) Van Slyke ; great grandchildren, Jack and Anna Van Slyke all of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert A. Lee; her sister, Nancy Maki; and her parents, Howard and Laura Lee.
A memorial service for Betty will be held at Eastlake Cemetery in the spring of 2012. Betty loved the first flowers of spring and all the hope that springtime held. The day and time will be announced.
It was Betty’s wish that there be no calling hours.

Alfred Morrison
NORTH KINGSVILLE - Alfred C. Morrison, 82, of Lake Road, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut.
He was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Sheffield Township, a son of Vern and Era (Cherry) Morrison.
A lifelong area resident, he was employed for 18 years as an iron worker for the Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock Co. He then farmed in North Richmond Township until his retirement at age 67.
He was a former member of the Lake Erie Boat Club and was affiliated with Kelloggsville United Methodist Church. He like to fish and especially enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Twila (Borowski) McBride, whom he married April 2, 1996; a son, Richard of Kingsville Township; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Hensel and Lisa Kovacic of Conneaut; three stepsons, Thomas and Michael McBride of Conneaut, and Kevin McBride of Shelby; two sisters, Marjorie Lower of Kingsville Township, and Lillian Griggs of Pierpont Township; a brother, Gordon Morrison of Conneaut; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, H. Eileen Morrison; a grandson, Martin Hunt; a sister, Elsie, in infancy; and two brothers, John and LaVern.
No service will be observed.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.

Nelma Clint
KINGSVILLE - Nelma Clint, 88, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
Born April 16, 1915, in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of John L. and Mary (Niemi) Hietanen, and was an Ashtabula resident her entire life.
She enjoyed traveling to Great Britain, Finland and Ireland. She also enjoyed gardening and wildlife.
Survivors include two children, Winnie Tisch of Sheffield Twp., and Michael Clint of Plymouth Twp.; four grandchildren, Jill Hazy of North Kingsville, Jackie Tisch of Columbus, Brian Clint of Ashtabula, and Michele Tisch of Jacksonville, FL; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lempi Moisio of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Clint, in 1984; two brothers, Viano and Charlie Hietanen; two sisters, Jenny Kangas and Velma Copeland; and her parents.
At Mrs. Clint's request, no services will be observed.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. for food and fellowship at the home of Butch and Winnie Tisch, 2575 Gageville Rd.

Dorothy Kalinsky
NORTH KINGSVILLE - Dorothy Kalinsky, 75, of Forest Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at her home.
The daughter of Willard and Muriel (Sanford) King, she was born Sept. 6, 1925 in Rome.
Mrs. Kalinsky worked at Camp Luther Church Camp in North Kingsville as a cook for 10 years before retiring. She enjoyed flowers, reading, music and attending Tom Jones concerts.
Survivors include two sons: David of North Kingsville and Michael of North Garden, Va.; one daughter, Kathy of Conneaut; one brother, T. Richard of Geneva; two sisters: Maida Obhof of Geneva and Anne Russell of Ashtabula; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Frank in 1991; one brother, Howard; one grandson, David Jr.; and two granddaughters: Anna Marie Sage and Julie Mysyk.
Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Greenlawn Memory Garden Chapel, 3137 E. Center St., with the Rev. Peg Welch, of Conneaut United Methodist Church, officiating.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dean Funeral Home, 3137 E. Center St., North Kingsville.

Wayne E. Beery
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP Wayne E. Beery, 85, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
He was born July 6, 1915, in Cleveland, the son of Clayton and Alice Berry.
He had been a resident in the nursing home for 14 years.
Mr. Beery was a plumber and a roofer. He liked bowling, playing cards and talking to people. He had attended Methodist churches.
Survivors include three brothers, Dwight, Merle and Noble; and two sisters, Sylvia and Velma.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
