Rita (Purola) English
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP - Rita (Purola) English, 75, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center in Kingsville.
She was born March 10, 1939, in Cleveland, the daughter of Joseph and Stella (Jasterbmski) Mosinski.
She had been an area resident since 1939, and graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1944. She worked as a telephone operator at the Ashtabula Telephone Company.
She was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed visiting the chapel at Mount Carmel Church, and for 25 years visited the Shrine of the Virgin Mary in Cary. She also enjoyed playing canasta.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann Perry of Ashtabula, and Mary Lou Scott of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Robert Michael Purola of Ashtabula, and William Charles Purola of Apple Valley, Calif.; a sister, Dolores Kovacic of Kelloggsville; a brother, Larry Mosinski of Quincy, Calif.; grandchildren Tonya, Rhonda, Samantha, Amanda, Jeremy, Jamie, Chris, T.J., Todd and Christopher; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary Jane Stickney and Elaine Rock; a brother, Joseph Mosinski; and her husband, Robert, in 1961.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1514 W. 6th St., Ashtabula. The Rev. Kevin Peters will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hour is 10 a.m. Friday at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula.
Mary Lea Rebera
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Mary Lea Rebera, 74, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at her home in West Palm Beach.
She was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Kingsville, the daughter of Alvin C. and Anna (Sojka) Crawford. She had lived in West Palm Beach the past 21 years.
She was a 1944 Ashtabula High School graduate, and worked more than 25 years for Ohio Bell/Western Reserve Telephone Company. She was a past member of Mother of Sorrows Church.
Survivors include a sister, Carla A. Nagle, and a brother, Donald C. Crawford, both of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, on July 2, 1999; a sister, Wanda Worden; and a brother, Alvin C. Crawford Jr.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mother of Sorrows Church. The Rev. Kevin Peters will officiate. Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memory Garden.
At the decease's request, no calling hours will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ashtabula County. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Robert E. Taylor
SEDONA, Ariz. - Former Ashtabula businessman Robert E. Taylor, 75, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Sedona, Ariz., following a short illness.
Born Feb. 19, 1925, he was the son of Edward H. and Pearl (McClurg) Taylor and lived most of his life in the Ashtabula area.
A 1943 graduate of Ashtabula High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving two Purple Hearts and two Silver Stars.
Following his military service, he graduated from Purdue University, then took over the family-owned Beidler-Taylor Roofing Co. of Ashtabula, which had been in operation in 1889. He retired in 1994 and moved to Arizona.
He was a past active member of BPO Elks Lodge 208, Ashtabula Area Chamber of Commerce, Ashtabula Builders Association, the Ashtabula and Madison country clubs; and was a past member of the board of directors of People Bank.
He was a life master award winner in duplicate bridge. He enjoyed tennis, golf, reading, traveling and any and all family activities.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie F. (Makar), whom he married on May 19, 1985; two sons: Gregory R. of Austinburg Township and Edward H. of Saybrook Township; two daughters: Sandra L. Fletcher and Margaret E. Hood of Ashtabula; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Margaret B. (McCabe) in 1977.
Service is noon Thursday at Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Betsy Schenk officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula Township.
Calling hours are 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Helen LaVerne (Metcalf) Ufford
HUDSON, FL - Helen LaVerne (Metcalf) Ufford, 85, of Port Richey, FL, formerly of Ashtabula, died on Thursday, August 7, 2003, at the Bayonet Health and Rehab Center in Hudson, FL.
Born on January 22, 1918, in Saybrook Township, she was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Corbin) Metcalf and has been a resident of Port Richey, FL, for the past 20 years.
Mrs. Ufford was a past member of the local Girl Scout Council Board of Directors, the Women's Association of the First Presbyterian Church, The Order of Eastern Star, and the Parent Teacher's Association. She operated the Ufford Floral Shoppe for several years.
Determined to be a teacher, she graduated from Kent State University at the age of 51 and earned her MS in Education at Edinboro University the following year. She taught at Plymouth Elementary School for 12 years. Mrs. Ufford was an accomplished pianist and golfer.
Upon retiring, Mrs. Ufford and her husband enjoyed shopping for hundreds of treats and gifts for children in Northeastern Ohio.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Lowell Ufford of Rocky River; a daughter, Mary Manner, and son-in-law, David Manner; three grandchildren, Richard, Thomas, and Alden Manner of Traverse City, MI; and a sister, Abby (Metcalf) Talcott of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Zelma Shirley Rose; and her husband, Robert Henry Ufford, who died on May 31, 2003. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage.
A brief Memorial Service for family members will be held at the "Three Sisters Reunion" on Saturday, August 30, 2003, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Talcott of 740 Morgan Road, Plymouth Township.

Brian Lee Giddings
LUTZ, Fla. Brian Lee Giddings, 41, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
He was born in Ashtabula and resided in Tallahassee, Fla., since 1981 coming to the Tampa, Fla., area in 1996.
Mr. Giddings was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church in Lutz.
Survivors include his parents, Harland and Gwen Giddings of Lutz; sisters, Brenda Smolen of Mentor, and Debra Feddon of Tallahassee; and maternal grandmother, Colette Knight of Lakeland, Fla.
Services were held April 8 at Trinity Assembly of God Church, County Line Road, Lutz.
Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Assembly of God youth fund in Lutz.

Anna M. Vitale
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP - Anna M. Vitale, 95, formerly of Wilson Avenue, Ashtabula, and a resident of the Ashtabula County Nursing Home since 1980, died there Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002.
She was born Aug. 26, 1906 in Ashtabula, daughter of John and Anna (Pavlyih) Dubroveck and lived in the city until her move to the nursing home.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, enjoyed cooking and taking care of her disabled son, Joseph, who is a resident of the nursing home.
Other survivors include a grandson, Joseph of Andover, two great grandchildren and a sister, Helen Schneider of Lakeland, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1971
There will be no calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial is at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
