Julius Zee
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP - Julius Zee, 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, in the Med Central Medical Center in Mansfield following a long illness.
He was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Middlefield, the son of Gabriel and Elizabeth (Ronto) Zee.
Mr. Zee was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was one of the Air Force's top gunners flying the B-17 bomber. He flew on 19 missions until being gunned down over Brunswick, Germany, on April 11, 1944. He was held as a prisoner for 13 months in the famed German prison camp Stalag 17B.
He worked for Union Carbide - Linde Division.
Mr. Zee enjoyed watching the Indians, Browns and Cavs. He also loved to collect any World War II memorabilia.
Survivors include his sons, Dennis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dr. Robert of Mansfield; daughters Patricia Maille of Chillicothe, Barbara Musgrave of Wimauma, Fla., and Michelle Bodnar of Madison; sisters Evelyn Shamrock of Cleveland and Betty Dempsey of Mentor; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Burial with full military services will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling hours will be held 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Motts Military Museum, Inc., 5075 S. Hamilton Road, Groveport, Ohio 43125. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
George J. Smock
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP - George J. Smock, 69, of South Ridge Road, Kingsville, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Living God, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Robert Falke officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at Albion, Cemetery in Albion, Pa.
The Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, is in charge of arrangements.
Rockford A. Moore
FORT MYERS, FL - Rockford A. Moore, 91, of Fort Myers, FL, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at the Heartland Health Care Center in Florida.
He was a resident of Ashtabula County until his retirement in 1968, when he moved to Naples, FL. He was a plant manager for Ashtabula Bow Socket, where he worked for 30 years.
Mr. Moore was a member of the Naples Church of God. He was the husband of the late Lila Moore, who died in 1993,
Survivors include his two daughters, Darlene Becker and her husband, Ken, of Fort Myers, and Jean Stevens and her husband, Herman, of Waynesville, NC; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Cutright of Massillon.
Friends may call on the family Thursday, June 5, 2003, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Chapel, 3520 Tamiami Trail North, Naples, FL. Services will follow at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Elwood F. Kern, of the Naples Church of God, officiating. Burial will follow at Naples Memorial Gardens, 586 111th Avenue North.
The family has entrusted care and services to Hodges Funeral Chapel of Naples.
Sanford Lee Mullins
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP - Sanford Lee Mullins, 80, of Kingsville, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the Austinburg Rehabilitation Center.
Born Jan. 12, 1920, in Floyd County, Ky., he was the son of Duffy and Bertha (Lucas) Mullins.
He retired from Conrail as an electrician.
He enjoyed reading, yard work, watching local and national news and his grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters: Gail Cusano of Kingsville, with whom he made his home, and Patricia Layman of Ashtabula; one son, Percy of Alpharetta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, and second wife, Edith;a son, Danny; a sister; and four brothers.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Guerriero Funeral Home Kingsville Chapel, 6280 S. Main St., North Kingsville.
Burial will take place in Ridgeview Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
George J. Smock
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP - George J. Smock, 69, of South Ridge Road, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 19, 1931, in Greenville, Pa., he was the son of George H. and Pearl (Bailey) Smock. He resided in Kingsville for the past 30 years.
He was employed as an operating engineer for Construction Union Local 66 in Erie.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and car repair.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Bernadette; three daughters, Linda Martin of Canal Fulton, Christine of Conneaut and Dawn Moore of Kingsville; four sons, Rodney of Kingsville, Kenneth and David of Conneaut and Timothy of Ashtabula; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Church of the Living God in Ashtabula. The Rev. Robert Falke will officiate.

David J. Bland
SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP - David James Bland, 40, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.
He was born Sept. 3, 1962, in Ashtabula, the son of Okey and Norma (Riley) Bland.
Mr. Bland was a member of the Young Men’s Social Club of Ashtabula and enjoyed Harley Davidsons and NASCAR Racing.
He was employed by Grand River Rubber of Ashtabula.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sherry Stokes; four sons, Jacob, Anthony, Dylan and Travis; a brother, Okey Jr., of Conneaut; and two sisters, Sharon Yolk of North Carolina, and Judy Cottrell of Kelloggsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patricia McKinley.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday in the Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Jerry Webb will officiate.
Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery.

N. Jack Hassett
GENEVA - N. Jack Hassett, 71, of Geneva, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at his home.
He was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Ashtabula, the son of John and Winiford (Hammond) Hassett, and was a lifelong Ashtabula and Geneva resident.
He was an electrical and mechanical engineer at Reliance Electric for 40 years, retiring in 1997. After retirement, he did consulting work for several companies. He also worked at True Temper in Geneva.
He was a 1949 graduate of Harbor High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. During the summer, he was a lifeguard at Walnut Beach.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator and was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team during the Korean War. He sailed on the USS Roanoke.
He was a member of Assumption Church, a lifetime member of the Geneva Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6846 and was a member of the Elks. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, the former Roseanna Tersigni, whom he married Aug. 25, 1951, in Geneva; three sons, Michael Hassett and Anthony Hassett, both of Geneva, and Tim Hassett of St. Charles, Mo.; a daughter, Debra Hassett of Austinburg; three grandchildren, Leah, Lexi and Caelan J.; three brothers, Tom Hassett and Joe P. Hassett, both of Ashtabula, ; and Jim Hassett of Kingsville; and four sisters, Sharon Orovist and Bunny Zigmond, both of Ashtabula, Norma of Florida, and Betty Meaney of Jefferson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Bailey; and a brother, Michael Hassett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Catholic Church, 594 W. Main St., Geneva. The Rev. Paul Tobin, pastor of Assumption Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Geneva.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva.
