Ernest R. Nicka
GENEVA - Ernest R. Nicka, 53, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at his home.
He was born March 8, 1949, in Painesville, the son of Dorothy (Washburn) and Ernest R. Nicka Sr.
Mr. Nicka worked for Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. for 25 years and was a member of the Utility Workers Union of America, Local 270. He also worked for Painesville City Electric Distribution and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 673. He retired in 1993.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He married Maureen (Nolan) Nicka on June 25, 1966, at St. Mary Church in Painesville.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Peter Nicka of Pittsburgh, and Roy J. Nicka of Meridian, Miss.; a daughter, Meghan Nicka of Geneva; three grandchildren, Bradly Nicka of West Point, N.Y., and Caitlin and Jennifer Nicka, both of Pittsburgh; and his mother, Dorothy, of Painesville.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison. The Rev. Luigi Miola of the church will officiate.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison.

Merle A. Culver
GENEVA - Merle A. Culver, 68, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Culver was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Green, the son of Harrison A. and Mabel (Raymond) Culver.
A longtime area resident, he married Edith May Mehay July 31, 1967, in Madison.
He retired In 1999, after 34 1/2 years at Parker Hannifin Material Services.
Mr. Culver enjoyed bowling, collecting Hot Wheels and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Donna Deis of Orwell, Jeannie Rader of Sharon, Pa., and Anna Bean and Renee Yommer, of Geneva; three sons, Thomas of Youngstown, Richard Hoagland of Sharon, Pa., and Alex Hoagland of Geneva; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in October 2001; his parents; a daughter, Etta Irene Hoagland; a granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Culver; two brothers, Harry and Walter; and two sisters, Bessie Hoagland and Margaret Osborne.
Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, with the Rev. Chris Anderson of Tri-County Bible Church, Madison, officiating. Burial will be in Madison Memorial Cemetery, Madison.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Thad B. Taylor
GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE - Thad Basil "Shorty" Taylor, also known as Paul Carpenter, 61, of Kathryn Drive, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at his home.
He was born July 5, 1939, in Hambden Township, the son of Basil and Hazel (Snow) Taylor, and had been an area resident for the past 20 years.
Mr. Taylor worked as a lumber cutter for Spencer Industrial Saw Mill, Albion, Pa., and handled a rural delivery route of the Plain Dealer.
He loved woodworking and was a gifted craftsman.
Survivors include his wife, Marguerite (Thompson); two daughters, Wendy Sweeney and Sheila Perkins of Geneva-on-the-Lake; five sons, Zac and Shawn of Geneva-on-the-Lake, and Randy, Charles and Marvin Rupple of Burton; 18 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; four sisters, Sally Williams of Conneaut, Beatrice Arnold of Jefferson, Carol Wallace of Espyville, Pa., and Francis Brown of Arizona; two bothers, Eugene Taylor of Albion, Pa. and Charles Taylor; and numerous adopted children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At Mr. Taylor's request, no services will be observed. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Geneva.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula.

Barbara A. Skidmore
GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE - Barbara A. Skidmore, 75, a resident of Geneva-on-the-Lake, died Sunday, August 10, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
She was born May 19, 1928, in Madison to Samuel and Inez (Potter) Hathaway. She lived most of her life in Madison and Geneva, graduating from Madison High School in 1946.
She married William E. Skidmore Sr. in Madison, OH, on Nov. 3, 1950, and was an employee of The Madison Press newspaper.
Mrs. Skidmore enjoyed gardening, cooking, bowling, fishing and watching sports.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Barbara "Lynn" Williams of Ashtabula and Sandra Lentinni of FL; one son, William E. (Shelli) Skidmore Jr. of Madison; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Tracy, Kreig, Zackary, Michael, Tara and Casey; several great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Samuel (Colleen) and Glen (Nancy) Hathaway, all of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Gerald "Bud" and Wick.
There will be a private memorial service for the family.

David Dillon
GENEVA - David Dillon, 52, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
He was born Aug. 7, 1950, son of Willard and Millie Dillon.
Mr. Dillon worked at AshCraft Sheltered Workshop and will be missed by his many friends at Homestead.
Survivors include his sister Dora Quick of Portsmouth, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service is at a later date. It will be at Bethel Cemetery, Highland Township.

Jerry R. Lyon
GENEVA - Jerry R. Lyon, 63, of Lawn Street, died Thursday Dec. 5, 2002, at his home.
He was born March 13, 1939, in Geneva, the son of Cledis and Eva (Jones) Lyon. He was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Lyon graduated from Geneva High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 in the Korea Conflict. He worked at the Geneva Coke Plant for 15 years and at Geneva True Temperin Golf Shaft Department for 20 years.
Mr. Lyon enjoyed electronics and was a Ham radio operator, his CB handle was "Sparks."
Survivors include a sister, Carol A. Eller of North Kingsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joan Lyon Swartwood.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman Street, Geneva. The funeral is 11a.m. Friday, at the funeral home. The Rev. Christine Strachan, of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church will be officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva.
