Edwin R. Laine
GENEVA TOWNSHIP - Edwin R. Laine, 72, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at his home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Ashtabula, the son of Ralph and Helen (Haapasaari) Laine.
Mr. Laine was a 1949 graduate of Harbor High School and a Korean War veteran. He worked at Reactive Metals Co. and was an estate manager for the Alina R. Bolton family.
Survivors include his son, Jerry Laine of Ashtabula; a daughter, Susan Laine, also of Ashtabula; a sister, Mary Inkinen of Youngstown; a brother, Richard Symes of Ashtabula; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At Mr. Laine's request, no services will be observed. The Potti Lakeside Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, is handling the arrangements.
Edward G. Phillips
GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE - Edward G. "Sonny" Phillips, 61, of Drummond Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at the UHHS Memorial Hospital of Geneva. He was born April 14, 1941 in Frostburg, Md., the son of Herman G. and Anastasia (Rafferty) Phillips.
He worked at Geneva True Temper for 13 years as a machine operator and at Fasson in Painesville for 10 years. He was a member of the Steelworkers Union and enjoyed skydiving.
He married Linda J. Frazier on Jan. 15, 1966 in Cumberland, Md.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of Geneva, one son, Edward, Jr. of Geneva-on-the-Lake, one daughter, Bobby Gretchen Phillips of Geneva-on-the-Lake, one brother, Joseph Leon Phillips of Ashtabula and two sisters, Wilda Ann Greco of Geneva and Mary Jane Fram of Mentor.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Roberta Lynn, his parents, one brother, Glenn Phillips and his twin sister, Margaret Susan Metzler.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva.
Contributions may be may be made to the family, Heart Assoc. or Lung Assoc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Leslie J. Alexander
GENEVA - Leslie Jack Alexander, 83, of Geneva, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at his home.
He was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Trumbull Township, the son of Lynn John and Eva Rose (Stowe) Alexander.
He served with the Army's 36th Infantry in the European Theater during World War II. He received the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
He worked at TruTemper in Geneva for 43 years.
He was a member of the Ashtabula Rod and Gun Club, was an avid skeet shooter and proud of his "100 in a row" award. He loved hunting and spending time outdoors, and also carved duck decoys out of wood.
Survivors include a son, Leland Alexander of Geneva; two daughters, Patricia Ann Bertone of Jefferson, and Ina Marie Hartin of Jemez Springs, N.M.; and five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Estella, on Oct. 30, 1987; and several brothers and sisters.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at the Kennedy-Billman Funeral Home, 323 S. Broadway, in Geneva. The Rev. Richard Wright, of the Jefferson Nazarene Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Eileen M. Sprague
GENEVA - Eileen M. Sprague, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Madison Health Care.
She was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Athens, to Mr. and Mrs. Orla Ashcraft. She was a widower.
Mrs. Sprague worked in the food department at Madison Health Care. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Perry.
Survivors include sons James Sprague of Perry, Kenneth Sprague of Rock Creek, Dale Sprague of Perry and Marvin Sprague of Madison; grandchildren Dawn, Ryan, Sunshine, Shelly, Daniel, Teresa and Michelle; three great-grandchildren; brother Lowell Ashcraft of Athens; and sister Orletta Bodnar of Geneva.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, daughter Donna Maruschak, and grandson Jason.
Funeral is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Behm Family Funeral Homes, 26 River St., Madison, officiated by the Rev. Michael Cole. Burial is in Perry Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Harry E. Brown
GENEVA Harry E. Brown, 87, of Tibbits Street, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Inn Madison.
He was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Geneva, the son of Edward C. and Nellie W. (Dougherty) Brown.
Mr. Brown was a supervisor at Geneva True Temper in the Golf Shaft Department.
He married Ilahope (Marlett) April 7, 1933, in Erie.
Mr. Brown enjoyed antiques, repairing appliances and reading, and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6846 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2243. He served on the Geneva Police Auxiliary for a number of years and worked at Aero Equipment in Cleveland during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and Dennis Brown, both of Geneva; a daughter, Janelle Cooper of Geneva; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Brown; two sisters, Renee Spellacy and Ann Rauckhurst.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Wade of Park Street Christian Church in Geneva will officiate.

Leolyn Martin
GENEVA Leolyn Martin, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at her home in Geneva.
She was born May 23, 1916, in Cleveland, the daughter of William and Bertha (Kisthardt) Miller.
She married Robert Martin Feb. 22, 1940, in Cleveland.
Mrs. Martin was a resident of Geneva for more than 60 years. A graduate of Shaw High School and 1938 graduate of Miami University of Ohio, she worked as a school teacher in Geneva City Schools where she taught physical education and photography.
She was a member of Geneva First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star and a charter member of the Roundtable Study Club. She was active in Girl Scouts, enjoyed playing tennis, golf and bridge and was an avid reader. She played the washboard and kazoo in the Kitchen Band and enjoyed traveling to Green Valley, Ariz.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Hill of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Jane Martin of Vancouver, B.C., Canada; two grandchildren, Martin and Jessica Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and two sisters, Elizabeth Winslow and Janet Miller.
Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at The Behm Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva. The Rev. Richard Cheney of Geneva First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Geneva.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
