GENEVA - Kathryn “Kathy” Samples, age 84, of Geneva, Ohio, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 in Geneva.
Born in Charleston, W. Va., on July 24, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Everett and Pearl (nee Harris) Light and a long-time resident of Montville.
She worked as a health care provider in private home care, retiring in 1992.
Kathy was a member of the Community Church of Hartsgrove. She enjoyed quilting and raising flowering house plants.
Survivors include her daughters, Virginia (Ronald) Denham of Geneva, Leona (Edward) Frank of Rome, Bonnie (David) Starcher of Albany, and Karen (Lewis) Dean of Texas; a daughter-in-law Sonja Samples of Virginia; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and brother Bob (Martha) Light of Chagrin Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold, Carl, Earnest and Frank; sisters, Grace, Joann, Dorothy and Elizabeth; her son, Eber Samples Jr.; and former husband, Eber Samples Sr.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at the SAM RITONDARO FUNERAL HOME, 126 South St. (Rt. 44 south of Rt. 6), Chardon, Ohio.
Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

Hilda M. Dodge
Wednesday, October 3, 2007
GENEVA - Hilda M. Dodge, age 74, of N. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio, died early Monday morning, Oct. 1, 2007, following a brief illness at the Rae Ann Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 31, 1932 in Hightown, Va., the daughter of Richard C. and Lillian M. (Marshall) Snyder and has been a resident of the Geneva area the past 47 years, coming from Virginia.
Mrs. Dodge was a 30-year employee of Bennett Machine & Stamping, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Peoples Church and enjoyed singing and collecting rooster figurines.
She is survived by her husband, Charles D. Dodge, whom she married on Aug. 10, 1974 at the Peoples Church; a sister, Carol Hall of Niles; two brothers, Wayne Snyder of North Carolina and Tunney Snyder of Virginia; an adopted granddaughter, Hanna Risher of Geneva; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents and an adopted grandson, Mark Risher.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at the Peoples Church, 300 S. Ridge E., Geneva, with the Rev. Jimmy Walker officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Contributions may be directed to the family.
The Geneva Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, INC., 323 S. Broadway, Geneva, is in charge of arrangements.

Edward C. Andrus
GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE – Edward C. Andrus, 80, of Geneva-on-the-Lake passed Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 2:13 AM at Hospice House, Cleveland surrounded by his family.
Ed was born February 11, 1929 in Ashtabula and spent his whole life in Ashtabula County.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he loved the Lord, his country, and his family and friends.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served in the Air Force Band.
He married Dorothy “Dottie” (Sickinger) on January 13, 1953 and raised four children moving to Geneva-on-the-Lake in 1964. Dot and Ed owned and operated Indian Creek Resort for 41 years and developed it into the largest and Woodalls, Trailer Life, and Wheeler’s highest rated campground in Ohio. He was a CPO (Certified Park Operator), a Certified Pool Operator, and had many awards such as Sparkle & Spark Plug. Ed was very active in the Ashtabula County Tourism effort since 1976. He was a member of Ashtabula County Tourism (ACT) which was the forerunner of Ashtabula County Convention and Visitor Bureau (ACCVB). He received the first Tourism Excellence Award Person of the Year in 2007 in recognition of his service to the tourism industry of Ashtabula County.
He was fire chief of Geneva-on-the-Lake for 25 years and was involved with the Ashtabula Co. Fire Chief’s Association. He served on the Planning Commission Board, the Geneva-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce, and on both the state and local Board of Health. He served with the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol, was a private pilot who enjoyed flying his N7759T plane, and was a Great Lakes ship captain. He was also Citizen of the Year for Geneva-on-the-Lake in 2006. His last adventure is Lake Erie Vista, a complex of 47 luxury condos on our great Lake Erie. This project will be completed by dedicated family members. Another favorite project was building the Indian Creek Resort Chapel and Pavilion, which is the only church at Geneva-on-the-Lake. Friends and family built the chapel and now it is here for all to attend. Services are every Sunday May to October 15. Please come join us.
Nationally, he was on the board of ARVC and belonged to the Beamers Bottle Club.
His hobbies were his work, but he also loved to travel. He went on Eastern Airlines 21 day unlimited mileage 2 times to all the Caribbean Islands. His favorite trip was in January of 1999: a great adventure to Europe on the Concorde. He loved spending time with his family and friends and also enjoyed reading, playing cards, boating, and flying.
He was a visionary and had a great journey. We are so proud of him. He had so many achievements.
His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy and four children, Edward C. (Debby) Andrus, Donna Mae (Dan) McGrath, Donald E. (Gayle) Andrus, and Scott E. (Sue) Andrus, all of Geneva-on-the-Lake; 12 grandchildren, Danielle (Richard “Bill”) Balog, Donald (Jen) Andrus II, Steven, James, Joe, Mike, Crystal, Eric, Emily, and Terri Lee Andrus, Eddie (Adrianne) Andrus III, and David (Christiana) McGrath; one great-granddaughter, Deanna Balog; and his brother-in-law, Anthony (Betty) Sickinger who operate High Tide at Geneva-on-the-Lake.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and his parents.
A memorial celebration will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Indian Creek Resort Chapel and Pavilion, 4710 Lake Road East, Geneva-on-the Lake. Full military honors will be conducted by the Geneva VFW Post #6846 to open the service. Rev. James Douglass, Pastor of Indian Creek Chapel, will officiate with musical accompaniment by Jimmy Fuller.
Friends and family may visit following the service from 2 to 5 PM at the Indian Creek Fellowship Hall to continue sharing in the celebration of his life.
Contributions may be made to the Indian Creek Chapel, Geneva-on-the-Lake as an alternative to flowers.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.

MARK A. RISHER
GENEVA - Mark A. Risher, 15, of Elizabeth Drive in Geneva, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 30, 2003 at his home.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Park Street Christian Church in Geneva. Reverend Daniel Swankler of Calvary Baptist Church of Bedford, PA and Reverend Larry Wade of Park Street Christian Church of Geneva will officiate. Calling hours will be Wednesday, December 3, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the KENNEDY-BILLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 323 South Broadway, Geneva. Memorials may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.

Laura J. Theilan
GENEVA - Laura J. Theilan, 71, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000 at the Rea-Ann Nursing Home.

Ruth M. Watkins
GENEVA - Ruth M. Watkins, age 94, of Geneva, passed away on Saturday, June 21st at Rae Ann Nursing Home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, Ohio.

Edward Pekarski
GENEVA - Edward Pekarski; a Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2003, at the Harpersfield Community Center, 5600 Cork­Cold Springs Road, Harpersfield, Ohio. The Rev. Jim George, of South Harpersfield United Methodist Church, will officiate. The Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva, is in charge of arrangements.

MARVIN W. Ralph
GENEVA – Marvin W. Ralph Sr., 64, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Lake East Hospital in Painesville.
Arrangements will be announced by the Kennedy-Billman Funeral Home, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio.

Frances Showers
JEFFERSON - Frances Showers, 83, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Jefferson Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born June 24, 1917, in Paris, Ky., the daughter of Wylie and Willie (Boughner) Bradburn.
Mrs. Showers was a Geneva resident from 1961 to 1980, and had lived in Andover since 1980.
She worked as a custodian at the United Church in Geneva for 10 years and with Country Neighbor in Andover for eight years.
Mrs. Showers enjoyed playing cards, fishing, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. She raised all four of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Showers attended the Church of Christ in Andover.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Switzer of Oshawa, Ontario; two step-sons, Robert Showers of Franklin, Pa., and James Showers of Cooperstown, Pa.; four grandchildren, Toni Hill, Rick Traylor, and Mike and Tracy Switzer; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Frank Bradburn of Muncie, Ind., and Walker "Gilkey" Bradburn of Xenia.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Lewis Sanders; her second husband, Albert Long; her third husband, Martin Showers; her parents; two sisters, Thelma Sweeney and Margaret Amspaugh; a brother, Joyce "Tiny" Bradburn; and a son, John L. Sanders.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva. The Rev. Robert Geer of the Church of Christ in Andover will officiate.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to the Kidney Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
