Donald H. Cole
JEFFERSON - Donald H. Cole, 78, of East Ashtabula Street, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at his home.
Born Sept. 12, 1923, in Cleveland, he was a son of Earnest B. and Beatrice M. (Holsterman) Cole and had been a Jefferson resident for the past 48 years. He also had lived in Geneva, Chardon and Madison-on-the-Lake.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II. He married Dorothy M. Smith on May 5, 1943, in Chardon.
Mr. Cole served for a time on the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Donna M. Campbell of Orwell and Diana H. Kean of Cherry Valley Township; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald F., in 1999; four brothers, Stanley, William, Robert and Clayton; and two sisters, Harriet Cole and Ernestine Guier.
Cremation will take place at the Care Group Cremation Center. Grave-side service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakdale Cemetery, Jefferson, with lay pastor Gordon Emerson of Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating.
No calling hours will be observed.

Joyce E. Sylvester
JEFFERSON - Joyce E. Sylvester, 88, of Orwell, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at Jefferson Geriatric Center.
Born January 8, 1915, in Lorain, and a longtime resident of Rome, Mrs. Sylvester was a member and Deacon of the Orwell Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Orwell, and the Rome Grange.
She is survived by children: Edward T. of Jefferson, Kenneth of North Kingsville, Raymond of Amarillo, TX, Carolyn Adams of Arcadia, FL, Judy Clem of San Diego, CA, Shirley Feko of Tellico Plains, TN, Cathie Hertna of Russell Springs, KY, Edith Boran of Roaming Shores, April May Dunbar of Amarillo, TX, and Mary Feko of Naperville, IL; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded by her husband, Edward J.; sons, Robert Irving and Jerald Sylvester; and a brother, Bruce Hilger.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2003, at the GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 140 East Main Street, Orwell, with Reverend Sandy Seaton-Todd of the Orwell Presbyterian Church as celebrant. Interment will follow in Rome Center Cemetery, Rome. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
James W. Maupin
JEFFERSON - James W. Maupin, 53, formerly of Painesville Township, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident.
The son of Russell and Margaret (Beebe) Maupin, he was born Nov. 27, 1946 in Morgantown, W. Va.
Mr. Maupin was self-employed as a drywall finisher. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Flick; one daughter, Sheila Allen of Mentor; one son, Tim Mann of Painesville; his mother; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters: Maryann and Carolynn, both of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Charles.
Services will be noon Saturday at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. until noon, prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
John A. Colin
JEFFERSON - John A. Colin, 86, of Linda Lane, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 24, 1914, in Ashtabula, the son of Edward G. and Jane (Brennan) Colin and had been a lifelong area resident, living the past 18 years in Jefferson.
A 1932 Ashtabula High School graduate, he attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and Ohio State University, Columbus, before obtaining his law degree from Cleveland Law School.
He passed the Ohio Bar exam in 1941 and soon began his private law practive in Ashtabula. From 1971 to 1998, he was an associated of attorney John P. Mahoney.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Colin served during World War II. He volunteered as a private in February 1941 and served in the infantry for five years. He served in the Pacific Theater with the 31st Infantry Division for two years, participating in amphibious landings on New Guinea and the Netherlands West Indies. After the Japanese surrender, he returned to the U.S. from the Philippines and was discharged as a captain. He helped found the 137th Tank Battalion and was first executive officer for eight months.
For more than 25 years, he served as vice president, general manager and general counsel for Rowley Newspapers and Radio Enterprises of Ohio. He also worked as vice president and general counsel for Radio Enterprises of Kentucky.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served as Sunday School teacher, elder and trustee.
Mr. Colin was a past president of Ashtabula County Industrial Development, Ashtabula Area Development, Ashtabula County Community Improvement Corp., Ashtabula Country Club, Smith Home for Aged Women, and the Ashtabula County Salvation Army Committee. He was a past chairman of the Ashtabula County Republican Party and the Ashtabula County Board of elections, and a past member of the Ashtabula Area Board of Education, the Ashtabula County Library Board and the Shea's Auditorium Board of Trustees.
He was a member of the Ashtabula Rotary Club, the Ashtabula Kent State University Committee, which brought Kent State University branch to Ashtabula, the Ohio State and Ashtabula County Bar Associations, and a past member of BPO Elks 208. He was honored by the Ohio Bar Association for 50 years of practice as an attorney in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Ehrenfeld), whom he married March 27, 1948.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Maunus, Hazel Wiley and Virginia Herzog; a brother, Jay; and his parents.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 4317 Park Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Stephen R. Long officiating, assisted by the Rev. Glen Warner of Second Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula Township.

Frederick J. Norred
JEFFERSON - Frederick J. Norred, 73, of Route 7, Richmond Township, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in the Jefferson Geriatric Center where he lived the past several weeks.
Mr. Norred was born Jan. 1, 1928, in Atlanta, Ga., the son of Claude and Inoa Rachael (Cochran) Norred. He had been a resident of Richmond Township for the past year after coming from Marietta, Ga.
He was employed by TRW of Euclid and later worked for General Electric in Marietta before retiring.
Mr. Norred was a member of the U.S. Army and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal while serving in Guam.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo, reading, and Native American culture. Mr. Norred was a member of the VFW and Eagles of Chardon.
He is survived by three daughters, Sherry R. Courtney and Cynthia Kane, both of Andover, and Gayle M. Smith of Ocala, Fla.; four sons, Michael and Christopher Norred, both of Danielsville, Ga., James R. Rocco of Danielsville, Ga., and Frederick J. Norred, Jr. of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, Thomas N. Norred of Jackson, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gregory K.; one brother, Claudus R.; and two sisters, Madeline and Doris.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Childs & Williams Funeral Home, 96 Route, Pierpont. The Rev. Larry Frent will officiate. Burial will be in Richmond Center Cemetery, Richmond Township.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary Boscarelli
JEFFERSON - Mary (Tadlovsky) Boscarelli, 74, formerly of Cleveland, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Esther Marie Nursing Home, Geneva, of a heart attack.
Mrs. Boscarelli was born June 15, 1926, the daughter of Peter and Mary Boscarelli.
She retired from the Old Stone Church in 1990 and was a lifelong member of St. Wendelin Church in Cleveland. She enjoyed sewing and making other crafts.
Mrs. Boscarelli is survived by three sons, David and Daniel, both of Jefferson and Bob of Cleveland; a daughter Sharon Perry of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam; a twin brother, John; and two brothers, Peter and Nicholas.
Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Wendelin Church with the Rev. Jerome Lajack officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Stas Funeral Home, 2289 Columbus Road at W. 25th St., Cleveland.
