Ressie G. Covell
JEFFERSON Ressie G. Covell, 92, South Poplar Street, Jefferson died Friday, October 6 at the Esther Marie Nursing Home in Geneva.
She was born May 17, 1908 in Denmark Township the daughter of William R. and Lillie M. (Stewart) Cutlip and has lived in the Jefferson area most of her life.
Covell was a member of the Austinburg United Church of Christ, enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved house plants.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Marjorie Covell of Jefferson; five grandchildren Roxanne Mowery, Rob Covell, Rhobyrda Perry and Rita Farina, all of Jefferson and Rian Covell of Lancaster; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and a half-sister, Ada Smerk of Cuyahoga Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur A Covell in 1981; a son Robert Covell in 1973; three sisters, Rhobyrda Blake, Ruby Harrison and Wanda Melott; and six brothers Lou, Dick, Bob, Frank, Paul, and Charlie Cutlip.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Mark Erskine, associate pastor of the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Austin Cemetery, Austinburg Township.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Frances Wayman
JEFFERSON - Frances Wayman, 88, died Friday, Oct. 6 in the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
A lifetime area resident, she was born in Jefferson on May 21, 1912 the daughter of Joseph F. and Ella (Baker) Wayman.
She was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, its Alter and Rosary Society, the East Plymouth Grange and the Plymouth Study Club.
She is survived by her five nephews and a niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her three brothers, Nicholas, Robert and Joseph; and a sister Agnes.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 12 noon in the St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson with the Rev. Steve Wassie officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula.
At her request no calling hours will b received.
The Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.
William Albert Harkabus
JEFFERSON - William Albert Harkabus, 74, of Jefferson, died Thursday, August 7, 2003 at his residence.
Born June 29, 1929 in Youngstown, he is the son of Albert and Madeline (Edel) Harkabus. He was a lifelong Ashtabula County resident.
Mr. Harkabus was employed for 28 years as a Machine Operator at Reliance Electric. He served as a Firefighter and EMT in Trumbull Township, and was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Ashtabula County and Sharp County, Arkansas. He worked on the Nickel Plate Railroad for 13 years as a Car Inspector and also painted and refurbished houses. He had visited all 49 states in America, excluding Hawaii.
Survivors include his wife, Adaline R. (Wilson) Harkabus, whom he married on July 31, 1970 in Thompson; three daughters, Sheryl Watchorn of Minneapolis, MN, Cheryl Mewborn of Alliance, OH, and Anna Higbee of Sarasota, FL; five sons, William A. Harkabus of Richmond, VA, Melvin Wilson of Amory, MS, Fred Wilson of Austinburg, and Robert Wilson of Jefferson; 16 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Gurto of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Joann Fox of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Harkabus.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2003 at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 175 South Broadway, Geneva. Pastor Chester Hitchcock of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Madison will officiate. Burial will be at the Restland Cemetery, Bainbridge Township, OH.
Calling Hours will be Sunday, August 10, 2003 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Inez M. Laitinen
JEFFERSON - Inez M. Laitinen, 90, of West Ashtabula Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Columbus, following an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 18, 1911, in Dorset Township, the daughter of Arthur A. and Pearl M. (Prentice) Allen and had been a resident of Dorset and Jefferson most of her life, and was a graduate of Dorset High School.
She married Martin A. Laitinen on Aug. 14, 1937, in Dorset Township.
She worked for many years in the Ashtabula County Courthouse, retiring from the Clerk of Courts office in 1973.
Mrs. Laitinen was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, where she did much volunteer work. She also volunteered at the Manna Food Pantry and at Jefferson Elementary School.
Mrs. Laitinen loved her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, music and playing the organ, crafts, crocheting, and painting.
Survivors include three children, Judy G. Laitinen, and David M. of Columbus, and Richard A. of Houston, Texas; a brother, Arthur Allen of Jefferson; and two sisters, Mildred McCoy and Freda Foster of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1991; and a sister, Vera Mason.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery.
Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.

Marilyn R. Park
JEFFERSON - Marilyn R. Park, 74, of North Market Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born July 22, 1927, in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of Charles H. and Marion R. (Reichard) Laird and had lived in Jefferson since 1995. Prior to that, she had lived in Fort Worth, Texas, for 24 years. She had also lived in Bedford.
She married Eugene E. Park on July 2, 1965, in Ashtabula.
Mrs. Park worked for Spiegel Catalog, serving 12 years as a sales supervisor and 10 years as an office manager. She previously worked for eight years as a sales supervisor for Penny Catalog and fours years as an operator for Southern Bell.
She played the organ at area nursing homes for the residents and worked with children and teens in church.
Survivors include her husband; her mother of Jefferson; three children, Charlene A. Clayton of Pierpont, Susan E. Kauffman of Millersburg, and Charles W. Diehl of Northfield Center; seven grandchildren, Tony Diehl, Bethany, Kyndria, and Megan Kauffman, Brittni, Rebecca and Rachel Clayton; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1986.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at Jefferson Church of the Nazarene, 55 E. Satin St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Richard Wright and the Rev. Lou Damiani of Bethel Bible Church officiating.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.
