Alpha Nichols
JEFFERSON Alpha "Sally" Nichols, 87, formerly of Ashtabula Towers in Ashtabula, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at the Jefferson Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
She was born June 3, 1913, in Elkview, W. Va., the daughter of Charles S. and Lilly F. (Estep) Bickel and has been an area resident since 1953.
She was a member of the Church of the Living God in Kingsville. Her hobbies were gardening and taking care of people.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Nichols of Jefferson and Charles Nichols of South Carolina; a daughter, Helen Bradley of LaFayette, Ga.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Laura Ashley of Ashtabula and Euma Kirkhart of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Brent Estep, Ray Bickel and Robert Bickel; and one sister, Lola Justice.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Robert Falke of the Church of the Living God officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.
Calling hour will be held noon Thursday until the time of service at the funeral home.
Dorothy M. Nichols
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Dorothy M. Nichols, 64, of Port St. Lucie, Fla. died Friday, July 20, 2001, at her home.
A native of Conneaut, she lived in the Ashtabula area for more than 40 years before moving to Florida 13 years ago. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Mullen of Zebulon, N.C., and Christina Vigorito of Port St. Lucie; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William.
Service is 2 p.m. today at Spanish Lakes Golf Village Clubhouse, Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Arrangements are being handled by All County Funeral Home and Crematory, Treasure Coast Chapel, Stuart, Fla.
Clarence C. Tussel
JEFFERSON - Clarence C. Tussel Sr., 93, of Williamsfield, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at the Jefferson Geriatric Center.
Mr. Tussel was born July 24, 1908, in Cleveland.
He loved fishing, painting and gardening. He attended the Bedford City Schools.
Survivors include a son, Clarence Tussel Jr. of Dorset and a grandchild Karl Tussel.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, and two brothers, Elmer and Raymond Tussel.
Funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 9819 Darrow Road (Route 91 and Post Road) Twinsburg. The Rev. Richard Seawright will officiate. Burial will be at Crown Memorial Park.
Calling hours are Thursday at the funeral home from noon until 1 p.m.

Pauline B. Curtiss
JEFFERSON - Pauline B. Curtiss, 84, of Uselma Avenue, died Monday, July 23, 2001, following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 16, 1916, in Dorset Township, she was a daughter of Fred and Bernice (Morris) Inman and was a lifelong Ashtabula County resident, living in Jefferson for the past 23 years.
She married Philip J. Curtiss on July 10, 1953, in Lake City, Pa.
She worked several years at Gray Drug Store, Ashtabula.
Mrs. Curtiss was a member of Dorset Baptist Church, loved having her family with her, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and taking care of her house plants.
Survivors include her husband; four grandchildren, Brenda K. Blenman and Melinda S. Edixon of Ashtabula, Steven J. Woodworth of Fellsmore, Fla., and Bonnie Rae Cusano of Kingsville Township; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Inman of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, James D. Woodworth in 1950; a son, James R. Woodworth in 1994; a great-grandson, Andrew Cusano; three brothers, John, Paul and Leo Inman and a sister, Dorothy Johnson.
Graveside service is noon Wednesday at the Woodworth family gravesite in Oakdale Cemetery, Jefferson, with the Rev. Harland Nefstead of the Dorset Baptist Church officiating.
No calling hours will be observed.

Brenda A. Brabender
JEFFERSON - Brenda A. Brabender, 37, of Scottsmill, Oregon, and former Jefferson resident, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at her residence.
She was born September 12, 1965, in Conneaut and was a resident of Jefferson most of her life, graduating from Jefferson Area High School in 1983 and from Grove City College in 1987. She was active in the JAGS program for many years, and was involved with chorus, volleyball and track while in high school. She loved animals and took care of horses at the county fairgrounds.
She was a member of the Scottsmill Friends Church in Scottsmill. Ms. Brabender enjoyed writing poetry, short stories and was an excellent artist. She recently had a booklet published of her poetry. Following graduation from Grove City, she worked a short while at Heather Hill Rehabilitation Center in Chardon. She then served one year as a missionary in Romania, returning to the U.S. and working in Philadelphia for the next four years. Brenda then took a position in Portland, Ore., working for a non-profit organization in charge of sending emergency medical supplies to Third World countries.
Survivors include her parents, Jon R. & Kay Ann Brabender of Jefferson; a grandmother, Anne Weber of Ashtabula; two sisters, Cathy R. Nitowski of Garden City, Mich., & Kirsten R. Millet of Westlake; and a niece and nephew, Tiffany & Anthony Jon Nitowski.
She was preceded in death by grandparents William & Leanore Brabender, Frank & Anna Mundy, & Wilber Weber.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 27, at 10:30 A.M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. A memorial service was held Sunday, May 25 at 11:00 A.M. at the Scottsmill Friends Church in Scottsmill, Oregon.

Lena M. King
JEFFERSON - Lena M. King, 87, of Clay Street, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the home of her daughter.
She was born June 24, 1915, in Weston, W.Va., the daughter of Jesse L. and Jessie (Barb) Allman and spent most of her life in Weston and Buckhannon, W.Va.
She worked as a donut maker at Spudnut’s in Buckhannon. She also cooked at Pat’s Drive In and Stardust.
Mrs. King married Ross Lauden King Jr. on Sept. 23, 1933, in Cumberland, Md.
She attended Mt. Herman United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed quilting and embroidery.
Survivors include four daughters, Kathleen Weaver of Weston, W.Va., Marleen Brandon of New Kensington, Pa., Colleen Jones of Jefferson and Barbara McVicker of Quakertown, Pa.; four sons, Ross L. and Delbert King, both of Buckhannon, W.Va. and Jim Posey and Ronald Dombrowski, both of Geneva; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Basil Allman of McCanns Run, W.Va.
Mrs. King was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Melissa Colleen Posey; a sister, Buela McKinney; and six brothers, Peter, Harvey, Cody, Claude, Rupert and Bernard.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Poling St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon, W.Va. The Rev. Robert Poling, retired pastor of Sand Run Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Weston, W.Va.
Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
