Joseph J. Kalinsky
JEFFERSON - Joseph J. Kalinsky, 82, of West Walnut Street, Jefferson, died Wednesday morning, July 24, 2002, at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had resided the past two months.
He was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Footville, the son of John and Anna S. (Platnia) Kalinsky, and was a lifelong Ashtabula County resident. He had lived in Jefferson the past 65 years.
A 1939 graduate of Rock Creek High School, he served with the Army during World War II.
He retired in 1979 after 20 years as road supervisor for Jefferson Township. Previously, he worked 31 years for the state and county highway departments.
Over the course of more than 50 years, he spent thousands of hours umpiring, managing and working on the fields at the Jefferson Area Girls Softball Complex and Memorial Field. He was a baseball and softball umpire with the Ohio High School Athletic Association, served as a Little League umpire for 28 years, served on the Memorial Field Board, the Jefferson Area Little League Board, the JAGS league board and boards of the Jefferson area women's and men's softball organizations and the Jefferson Community Service Board, and he was a member of the Jefferson Area Athletic Boosters.
He served more than 12 years as head groundskeeper for the JAGS program. The 2002 JAGS season was dedicated to him, and he received a lifetime achievement plaque during opening-day ceremonies.
In 1972 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Jefferson Area Little League and was the 1979 Jefferson Chamber of Commerce "Citizen of the Year."
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce E. Kemp of Fredricktown; two granddaughters, Kelly S. Kemp-Dodd of Mount Vernon and Penny J. Randolph of Ashtabula; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dan Kalinsky of Taylor, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Kalinsky; and four sisters, Ann Johnson, Mary Calvert, Katy Lieby and Dorothy Kulaszewski.
Service is 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. The Rev. David T. Hill, of First Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be at Dorset Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edward S. Zuri
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP - Edward S. Zuri, 69, of Brown Road, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born May 21, 1932, in Homestead, Pa., the son of Frank and Barbara (Urr) Zuri and had lived in the Jefferson area for the past 23 years, coming from Cleveland.
He married Dorothy Milik on April 24, 1964, in Cleveland.
Mr. Zuri was a 15-year employee of the Jefferson Area School District, serving as head custodian at the high school.
He enjoyed watching basketball, fishing and flea marketing.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three children, Karen M. Applbaum of Pittsburgh, Robert of Chicago and Edward S. of Jefferson; a stepson, Joseph Krukowski of Chardon, four grandchildren; two brothers, William of Pittsburgh and Rudolph of Murfeesboro, Tenn.; two sisters, Irene Quinn of Pittsburgh and Stella Kenney of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank; and a sister, Ida DeCesare.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Brian Wright of First Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Jefferson.

Pamela E. Hilty
GARLAND, Texas - Pamela Elaine Hilty, 46, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, after a five-year battle with cancer.
She was born April 29, 1955, in Geneva, the daughter of Ron and Marlee Hawes and moved with her family to Texas in 1967.
She was a graduate of South Garland High School and attended Christ for the Nations Institute, Dallas, Texas.
Mrs. Hilty was employed by Garland schools for several years. Her last employment was with the Komen Cancer Center at Baylor, Dallas, Texas.
Survivors include her parents of Rowlett, Texas; her husband, John Jr.; two daughters, Faith and Heather; a granddaughter, Trinity; a grandson, Sebastion; a sister, Rhonda; and two brothers, Rick and Les Hawes.
Service was Sept. 16, at the Restland Memorial Chapel, Greenville Ave., Dallas. Texas.

Rosella Jennings
LAKE ZURICH, Ill. - Rosella Jennings, 80, formerly of Geneva, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at the Lexington Health Care Center, Lake Zurich.
She was born Feb. 7, 1921, the daughter of John and Helen (Barnowsky) Kowatch.
She spent most of her life in the Geneva, OH, area before moving to Illinois two years ago.
Throughout her life she was a housewife and humanitarian, and owned the Pro Tile Co., Geneva.
While in Geneva, she made jewelry for the Grape JAMboree and was involved in many civic activities, including being a den mother for the Cub Scouts and a member of the Red Cross. While living in the Gulf View Towers, Ashtabula, she was a caregiver to many residents.
Survivors include a son, Paul Pavlovich of South Side, Tenn.; two daughters, Shirley Hernandez of Richelle, Ill., and Kathy Hernandez of Antioch, Ill.; a brother, Paul Kowatch of Trumbull Township; two sisters, Helen Stoltz of Geneva and Irene Kraysek of Cottonwood, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Lori and Trisha Hernandez, Kelly, Randy and Tamara Pavlovich, and Larry, Cheri, Kim, David and Amy Hernandez; three step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Rosalie; and a brother, John Kowatch.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kennedy-Billman Funeral Home, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva. Burial will be in Trumbull County.

Robert E. Norton
JEFFERSON - Robert E. Norton, 82, of W. Satin St. died Wed. May 23, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center, Ashtabula.
He was born Jan. 14, 1919, in Norwalk, the son of Lee Ellis and Hilda Marie (Andrews) Norton and had been a Jefferson resident for the past 50 years.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for True Temper Corp., Saybrook Township.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Charles A. Borsukoff and Robert A. Kuhar, both of Jefferson; five grandchildren, Alexis, Cassandre, Charlie, Jeremy and Scott; and one great-grandson, Chase Christopher David.
He was preceded in death by his wife Olga "Peg" (Wladyka) Norton; a brother, Harry Norton; and his parents.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jefferson, 41 E. Jefferson St. The Rev. David T. Hill, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Rays Corners Cemetery, Lenox Township.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Mary J. Eldredge
JEFFERSON Mary J. Eldredge, 95, of the Lake View Towers in Ashtabula, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at the Jefferson Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 7, 1905, in Huntsburg, the daughter of Seymour and Florence (Williams) Mansfield.
Mrs. Eldredge graduated from Huntsburg High School and moved to the Ashtabula area in 1932 when she married Clifford M. Eldredge.
She was employed with Carlisle's Department Store from 1949 to 1959 and with the Ashtabula Telephone Co. from 1959 to her retirement in 1969.
Mrs. Eldredge was a member of Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula where she was a former deacon and was a member of the Golden Circle of the church. She was also very active in the Girl Scouts of America in Ashtabula.
Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting and needlepoint.
Survivors include a son, Clifford of Breckenridge, Colo.; two daughters, Jane Eldridge (Wiess) of Tomah, Wis., and Nancy Ziegler of Ashtabula; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; and a brother, Albert.
A memorial service will be announced by the Ross-Billman Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
