Gary George Hanel
JEFFERSON - Gary George Hanel, 37, of Footville-Richmond Road, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 from injuries sustained in an automobile crash.
Mr. Hanel was born July 3, 1964, in Ashtabula, the son of George G. and Evelyn E. (Herren) Hanel. He was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County.
He was a graduate of the Ashtabula High School class of 1982 where he was a member of the Ashtabula Panther Band. He was employed by Worthington Industries of Jefferson for the past six years.
He was a life member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Ashtabula. His hobbies included golfing, camping, fishing, darts and animals and he was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.
Survivors include his mother of Ashtabula; two sisters, Jolyn E. Reams of Ashtabula and Elaine L. Fentiman of Columbus; and his fiancee, Robin D. Blalock of Jefferson.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1999 and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. David Hofer officiating.
Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery, Ashtabula Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Childs and Williams Funeral Home, 1440 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church's memorial fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
Clarence Shinabery
JEFFERSON - Clarence Shinabery, 89, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000 at the Jefferson Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Kennedy-Billman Funeral Home, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva.
Donald M. Hicks
VERO BEACH, Fla. - Donald M. Hicks, 90, formerly of Conneaut, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Integrated Health Services after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Hicks was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Conneaut, the son of Henry and Grace (Dowd) Hicks. He moved to Vero Beach in 1986.
He retired from Allied Resinous and the Astatic Corp. in Conneaut. An accomplished musician, he was a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians.
Survivors include his two sons, John and Darryl Hicks; two grandsons, Craig Hicks of New Kensington, Pa., and Brian Hicks of Hilliard; and five great-grandchildren, Logan, Ariel and Chelsea Hicks of New Kensington, Pa., and Hannah and Jacob Hicks of Hilliard; and a sister, Thelma Bushnell of Butler, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Zelma, in January 2000; four sisters; three brothers; and his parents.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Norman Pavey of the Community Church officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fort Pierce, Fla.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cox-Gifford Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1950 20th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
At the family's request, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Beverly Ann Anthony
TEMPE, AZ - Beverly Ann Anthony, a devoted child of God, 57, of Gilbert, AZ, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer in Tempe, AZ.
She was born Beverly Ann Doll on March 22, 1946, in Fairmont, WV.
Beverly, a 1964 graduate of Ashtabula High School, relocated from Ashtabula to Tempe, AZ, with her family in 1975. Beverly was the Vice President of Operations for NationsChoice Mortgage and owner of Crafts by BAA. Throughout her life, she had been an active member in various organizations, such as Tempe Jayshees, Tempe Parks and Recreation, and South McClintock Baptist Church. She organized annual holiday toy drives, taught Sunday school, directed the children's choir, and sang in the adult choir.
Her hobbies included sewing, crafting, reading, and traveling. Her joy for life was evident in all who were blessed to know her. Family members, her grandchildren in particular, were the things that brought her much joy on a daily basis. There was nothing more important to her than her family. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She touched everyone's lives in a great way and will be missed tremendously.
Survivors include her spouse, John Anthony; her three children, Kim Anthony-Fisher, Suzanne Anthony-Cincera, and John Anthony, Jr.; her mother, Norma Doll; three brothers; one sister; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Jasper Doll; and her sister, Diana Sue Doll.
Services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2003, at 9 a.m. at Tempe Christian Church (formerly South McClintock Baptist Church), 5815 S. McClintock Dr. in Tempe.

Genevieve A. Tamas
JEFFERSON – Genevieve A. Tamas, 74, of Lenox Township, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the Jefferson Geriatric Center, where she had been a patient the past four years.
She was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Brevort, Mich., the daughter of Arthur and Beatrice (Lewis) Day. She was a resident of the Jefferson area for 60 years, coming from Buchtel.
She married Joseph Tamas Jr. March 20, 1948, at the Cherry Valley Church of the Nazarene.
Mrs. Tamas attended the Covenant Assembly of God Church, Jefferson. She enjoyed reading and was a former baby-sitter.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen S. Lip of Logan and Ruth E. Cortwright of Haslet, Texas; three sons, Arthur D. Tamas of Jefferson, William J. Tamas of Roaming Shores and Larry L. Tamas of Lenox Township; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eloise Ritgers of New Straitsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1994; a brother, Robert Day; two sisters, Ethel Hysell and Gladys Yates; and three siblings in infancy, James, Arthur and Doris.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. William Evans of the Covenant Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be in Rays Corners Cemetery.
Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Jean E. Childs
JEFFERSON - Jean E. Childs, 76, of West Jefferson Street, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at her home. She was born Dec. 22, 1926 in Jefferson, the daughter of Paul and Alice (Isaccson) Martin.
Mrs. Childs was a lifelong Jefferson resident.
She worked as a secretary for Jefferson Area Local Schools for 27 years before retiring.
She was a lifelong member of Jefferson United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling, walking, flowers, outdoors and her family.
Survivors include her husband Horace “Toad” Childs, whom she married July 22, 1950, four children, Debbie of Jefferson, Jeff of Mount Vernon and Brad and Jodi, both of Jefferson; seven grandchildren, three brothers, her twin, James E. Martin of Wheaton, Ill., John R. Martin of Bellevue, Neb. and Dewayne L. Martin of Concord; four sisters, Frances E. Holzheimer of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Mildred M. Irby and Dorothy P. Martin, both of Jefferson and June Martin of Lakewood.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Mae Martin in infancy, Eleanor Corbett, and Marianne Owsley; a brother, George and her parents.
A private family service will take place Tuesday, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman, Pastor of Jefferson United Methodist Church and Lay Pastor Gordon Emerson officiating.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, at Ducro Funeral Services, Jefferson Home, 17 N. Market St., Jefferson.
