Ina M. Gentry
ORWELL - Ina Mae Gentry, 91, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Grand Valley Country Manor, Windsor Township.
She was born Sept. 24, 1910, in Baileysville, W.Va., the daughter of John and Sarah Elizabeth (Toler) Withrow. She had been an area resident since 1960.
She was married Nov. 3, 1925, to Luther Cad Gentry Sr.
She enjoyed baking, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Gentry was a member of Becco Baptist Church and later the Sharon Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Donald of Columbus, Walter of Boston, Mass., and Delmas "Jay" and Allen G., of Orwell; a daughter, Mary Ellis of Warren; 29 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Oct. 18, 1998; sons, Luther Gentry Jr. and Billy Earl Gentry; a daughter, Martha Louise Brooks; two grandsons; and a great-grandchild.
Service is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Krantz McNeely Funeral Home in Man, W.Va. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens, Pecks Mill, W.Va.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Krantz McNeely Funeral Home in Man, W.Va.
Mariah James
ORWELL - Mariah James, 82, of Orwell died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Barbersville, Ky., the daughter of Chester and Flora (Ledford) Hinkle.
A homemaker, she enjoyed gardening and especially spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Geneva Clark and Shelby J. Gasgineau, both of Perry, N.Y.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis Thomas James, on July 2, 1987; 10 brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Charles Case.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell.
In keeping with Mrs. James' request, she will be cremated and a family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
H. Nelson Pettibone VI
ORWELL - H. Nelson Pettibone VI, 85, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born May 8, 1916, in Bogalousa, La., he was the son of H, Nelson V and Gladys F. (Arundel) Pettibone. Formerly of Milwaukee, Wis.., he had been an area resident for the past 30 years.
He attended Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
Mr. Pettibone was the plant manager for Johnson Rubber Co., Middlefield, from 1955 through 1959. He retired as a vice president and general manager of a local Cleveland manufacturing company.
He was a member of Orwell United Methodist Church. An avid reader and dog lover, he also enjoyed vegetable gardening, golf, Big Band dancing and playing bridge.
Survivors include three sons, Kim N. Minnesota and Randall C. of Cameron, Ga., and Alan Stiles of Pittsburgh, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Doris, Mara and Eunice; and a sister, Jessica Van Wartz.
Service is 10 a.m. Friday at the Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, with the Rev. Jeff Fatica officiating. Burial will be in Orwell North Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Robert P. Irvine
ORWELL - Robert P. Irvine, 71, of New Lyme, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Village Square Nursing Home in Orwell.
He was born Oct. 8, 1929 in Cleveland, the son of William and Frances (Williamson) Irvine.
Mr. Irvine served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was retired from Enamel Products Corp. in Cleveland. He enjoyed wood working, making furniture, house plants, antique collecting, and selling.
He is survived by a brother, Earl Irvine of New Lyme; five sisters, Grace Hurney of Kirtland, Linda Maze of Niles and Barbara Snyder, Carollyn and Sandra Olah all of Orwell..
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Irvine; and four brothers, William, Howard, Gerald and Donald Irvine.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, with the Rev. George Dauler of the Orwell Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Dodgeville Cemetery, New Lyme.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the funeral at the funeral home
Clarence H. Krieg
ORWELL - Clarence H. Krieg, 95, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001.
He was born Aug. 19, 1906, in Colebrook, to Louis and Dora (Henshen) Krieg. He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Colebrook and Orwell schools.
Mr. Krieg was a former shipper for U.S. Gypsum and a security guard for Kennametal Inc. in Orwell.
He was an avid coon and squirrel hunter with dogs and a member of the Middlefield Coon Hunters Association.
Survivors include sons Roger Krieg of Champion, Leroy Krieg of Scottsdale, Ariz., John Shumaker of Southington; daughters Eileen Fetz of Mesa, Ariz., Martha Burger of Warren; brother Floyd Krieg of Colebrook; sisters Ruth Marshand of Kingsville and Lois Fowler of Ashtabula; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers William, Carl and Donald Krieg; and sister Juanita Smith.
There will be no funeral or visitation. Mr. Krieg will be cremated.

Joseph Z. Gates
ORWELL - Joseph Z. Gates, 89, of Orwell, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Warren.
He was born Jan. 2, 1913, in Alberta, Canada, the son of John and Anna (Gorog) Zubrik. She moved to Orwell from Warren in 1961.
He retired from the Air Force after 22 years as a master sergeant. He owned Gates Market between 1963 and 1977.
He was a member of St. Mary Church of Orwell and the Knights of Columbus of St. Mary Church.
He enjoyed leather working, golf, collecting coins and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters Julaine Gates of Concord, Jeanette Bower of Orwell, and Judith Ann Peters of Atlanta, Ga.; sons John P. Gates of Painesville, and James M. Gates of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Michael Gates of Cleveland; sisters Ann Petrunia of Warren, and Julaine Bohn of Florida; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Drozd, on July 31, 1983; a son, Joseph Gates; brothers John and Jack Gates; and a sister, Mary Bachrik.
A funeral mass will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, 103 N. Maple St., Orwell. The Rev. Gregory F. Fedor will officiate.
Calling hour at the church is noon Monday until time of service.
