Bill R. Collins, age 83, N. Chestnut St., Jefferson, died Friday evening at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born August 22, 1928 in Ethel, WV, the son of Floyd R. & Margaret R. (Lewis) Collins and has resided in Jefferson since 1955, coming from Hamlin, WV. Mr. Collins was a veteran of both the U. S. Air Force & the U. S. Marines, serving in the Korean Conflict.
He was a 35 year employee of Elkem Metals, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union Local #3081 and the Jefferson Eagles Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marion R. (Richmond) Collins, whom he married on April 25, 1959 at the Jefferson First Baptist Church, two daughters, Margaret A. Tyler of Geneva & Pamela S. (Mike Billings) Lamb of Ashtabula, two grandchildren, Jessica L. (Justin) Bess in Germany & Braden M. Billings of Ashtabula and two sisters, Judy C. Huffman & Florence V. Johnson, both of Hamlin, WV.
His parents, Floyd in 1933 & Margaret in 1996, a sister, Helen M. Collins, a brother, John Collins in infancy and a half-brother, Thomas Davis all preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Fred Grimm of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and hospice chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery where Geneva VFW Post #6846 will provide military honors.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12-1 P. M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH 44004.
Alice I. Smith
January 22, 1924 - May 14, 2012

Alice I. Smith, age 88, Lenox-New Lyme Rd., Lenox Twp., died Monday morning at the Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident the past four years.
She was born January 22, 1924 in New Lyme Twp., the daughter of Clayton E. & Nellie F. (Tompkins) Marrison and has resided in the Jefferson area all of her life. She was married to Harry R. Smith on June 27, 1947 in Rock Creek. They owned and operated a family dairy farm in Lenox Twp.
She was a member of the Dorset Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Jefferson Grange, receiving her 70 year pin. She enjoyed knitting, crafts, baking and being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Gail R. (Rita) Smith of Austinburg, Lynn E. (Gina) Smith of Zebulon, NC & Glenn C. (Christine) Smith of Jefferson, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry in 1995, sister, Charlotte Potter and four brothers, Ralph & Raymond in infancy and Levi & James Marrison.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Fred Grimm of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Lenox Center Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 6-8 P. M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., P. O. Box 74924, Cleveland, OH 44194-4924, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.
R. David Lewis
August 20, 1943 - April 19, 2012

R. David Lewis, age 68, St. Rt. 46 South, Lenox Twp., died Thursday afternoon at the Austinburg Nursing & rehabilitation Center where he had been a patient the past five months.
He was born August 20, 1943 in Parkersburg, WV, the son of the late Ronald R. & Enid (Putnam) Lewis and has lived in this area since 1979, coming from Akron. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Vietnam Era.
Mr. Lewis worked many jobs over the years but most recently was employed with the Star-Beacon. He was a member of the VFW in Albion, PA and was a former assistant scout master. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting and woodcarving.
Survivors include his wife, Norma L. Tierney, whom he married on April 24, 1973 in Petroleum, WV, five children, Cindy Dyer of Chelsea, MI, Matthew Lewis & David Lewis, both of Akron, Lora Lewis of Jefferson & Roy Lewis of Columbus, six grandchildren and siblings, Luralie Lewis & Ivan Lewis, both of Akron.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10:00 A. M. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH. The Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.
Dorothy F. Alexander

Dorothy Frances Alexander of Geneva Retirement Village passed away quietly April 10, 2012 at the age of 88. She was born on October 21, 1923 in New Rochelle, New York to Harold and Anna (Hamilton) Nichols.
Dorothy graduated from John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio. On June 11, 1948 she married Julius Alexander and moved to Footville, Ohio where she lived the majority of her life.
Dottie, as she was known to her friends and family, worked for R. W. Sidley, Inc. as a dispatcher and later Douglass Lumber and the Jefferson License Bureau. She was a long time member of the American Business Women’s Association, Geneva Chapter and the Red Hat Ladies. Pinochle was one of her favorite pastimes and she played weekly with her friends. An avid crafter, she spent her lengthy retirement sewing, painting and creating. She loved The Cleveland Indians and the family knew not to call her during a game because she would not come to the phone. She shared her home with Fuzzy and Kitsy, her two cats, and doted on them.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Larry) Cumpston; son, Thomas Alexander; step son, Allen (Delida) Alexander; step daughter, Nancy (Vaughn) Cvar; grandchildren, Cari (Edward) Van Hoy, Amy (Matthew) Peet, Melanie (Donnie) Bryans, Mark Alexander, Troy (Jennifer) Alexander; step-grandchildren, Tony Alexander, Marcella (Raymond) Alvidrez, Carol (Michael) Weis, Christopher Alexander, Donna Henderson, Daniel (Staci) Lease, Patti Redd; great-great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Hailey and Sydney Van Hoy, Blake, Brady and Bryce Peet, Jonathon Bryans, Avianne Alexander, Raynnah Alexander; step great-grandchildren, Karina, Joey, Sophie and Anna Weis, Samuel and Sarah Alvidrez, Ashley, Jacob and Zachary Henderson, Hanna and Steven Lease and Chloe Redd.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Her husband, Julius “Alex” Alexander; brother, Harold Nichols; Sister, Emma Beusse; granddaughter, Dorothy Janet Cumpston and step-grandson, Steven Alexander.
A memorial service will be Monday (April 16th) at 11:00 AM at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway, Geneva with Pastor Roger Zale officiating. Burial will take place in Footville Cemetery.

Eric W. "Rick" Brabender
October 25, 1963 - March 22, 2012

Eric William “Rick” Brabender, 48, of Chicago, Illinois, died March 22, in the Hospice Unit of Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Ill., with his sister, Christine, and his aunt, Lynda, by his side. He had lost a short, courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was born in Conneaut on October 25, 1963, the son of Arnold W. “Skip” Brabender and Charlene White.
Rick had lived in Chicago since the age of 15. For the past thirty years, he was Building Supervisor for an office and warehouse complex in Evanston. Some of the building’s tenants were very dear to his heart, especially the autistic children’s center, “Have Dreams”.
One of his most enjoyable activities was cooking for his friends. He also did remodeling work and various building projects- both large and small – for himself and others.
Rick is survived by his Chicago “Family of Friends”, his father, Skip (Marcey) Brabender of Huntington Beach, California, his mother, Charlene White of Georgia, his brother, Mark of Conneaut, Ohio, his sister, Christine, of New Zealand, sister, Dena (Star) Barry, of Los Angeles, California and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anne and Bill Weber, Bill and Lee Brabender, Charles & Francis White and also by his beloved dog, Buddy.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 14th at 11:30 A.M. in the Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut, Ohio with the Rev. Meredith Coleman of Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating.

Mollie A. Safcik
WEST MELBOURNE, FL - Mollie A. Safcik, 87, of West Melbourne, Florida, died Sunday, May 27, 2001 at Sterling House Assisted Living.
Born in Cleveland, she was a former resident of Ashtabula. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Ashtabula.
Survivors include; son Robert of Austinburg, daughter Sylvia Sholtis or Rockledge, Florida, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Florida Memorial Funeral Home in Rockledge is handling funeral arrangements.
