Charley Stone
ROCK CREEK - Charley Stone, 88, formerly of Route 45 South, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the hospice unit at Ashtabula County Medical Center, following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Uniontown, Pa., to Earl O. and Nina B. (Davis) Stone. He was a resident of this area most of his life, living in Rock Creek the past 52 years. He married Ida May Hawes Sept. 6, 1937, in Ripley, N.Y.
Mr. Stone was a 30-year employee of Diamond Shamrock Corp., retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Rock Creek United Methodist Church, the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association and the National Sheriff Association. He served several years as a little league manager and enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; daughters Loretta M. Panzarella of Rock Creek and Eleanor B. Stuart of Jefferson; son Charles O. Stone of Grand Prairie, Texas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers Earl and George Stone, both of Harpersfield Township, Ray Stone of Dorset Township and William Stone of Austinburg Township; and sisters Dortha Worden of Cape Cod, Mass., Minnie Rocher of Spring Hill Calif., and Edna Armstrong of Jefferson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Steve Stone and sister Jessie Collister.
Service is 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, officiated by the Rev. Dae Sob Yoon of the Rock Creek United Methodist Church. Cremation will take place at the Care Group Cremation Center. There will be no calling hours.

William Burkell
NAPA, Calif. - William Burkell, 46, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at his home following a short illness with cancer.
Born Aug. 21, 1955, in Erie, Pa., he was the son of James and Mary Ann (Zajkowski) Burkell.
He was a 1973 Northwestern High School graduate, then entered the U.S. Navy, serving four years until he was honorably discharged as lieutenant commander in the computer specialist division.
Mr. Burkell graduated from Sonoma State in California with honors in language and nursing. He was working at North Bay Hospital in Fairfield, Calif., as a registered nurse in the emergency room trauma unit.
He loved to travel and sailed around the world. He enjoyed collecting artifacts from all over, Africa, Australia and the Fiji Islands. He also enjoyed working out, running and computers.
He is survived by his parents of Conneaut; his domestic partner, Eugene Isenberg; three brothers, James of Deland, Fla., Daniel of Conneaut, and Robert of Erie; and a sister, Christine Salsbury of Springfield, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Private family services will be conducted by the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

Arthur R. Showalter
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP - Arthur R. Showalter, 75, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in the hospice unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born July 15, 1927, in Everett, Pa., a son of Frederick and Annie (Thomas) Showalter.
An Ashtabula County resident since age 17, Mr. Showalter was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the European Theater. He owned and operated Showalter Asphalt, Paving and Sealing.
He also worked construction through the International Labor Union 245. He was a 50-year member of the union.
Mr. Showalter also was a 37-year member of the Ashtabula Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 943, and was affiliated with the Ashtabula Builders Association. He attended the Harvest International Church and enjoyed doing yardwork.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Showalter; six sons, Richard of Conneaut, Ron of Boston, Barry of Geneva, David of Madison, Steve of Kingsville, and Mark of North Kingsville; a daughter, Jean Bramer of Geneva; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl of Austinburg; and a sister, Olive McDonald of Girard, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Frank, at birth; six brothers, Roy, Frank, Fred, Glenn, Percy and Russell; and four sisters, Verna Steele, Lena Dodson, Ethyl Showalter and Mariam Chaney.
Service is 5 p.m. Saturday at Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. The Rev. Duane Ball, pastor of Harvest International Church, will officiate.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Madgeline C. Foster
LORAIN - Madgeline C. Foster, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at the Royal Meadows of Austinburg Rehabilitation center.
She was born April 19, 1916, in Canton, N.Y., to John and Hattie (Holden) Cota. She married Donald E. Foster. He died in 1970.
In her younger years, Mrs. Foster was a nurse. She also worked as a laborer for Alert Co., manufacturing sweeper parts.
She loved reading and NASCAR.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Anservitz of Winchester, Ky.; a sister, Aleatha Gilman of Owega, N.Y.; grandchildren Terry Wight, Timothy Foster, Kelly Mlack and Stephen Foster; and eight great-grandchildren. Most of Mrs. Foster's grandchildren are from Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Harry Foster; sister Edna Paul; and grandson Harry Foster.
Service is 1 p.m. today at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, officiated by the Rev. Stephen Long of Prospect Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are noon to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Clover P. Courtney
ROCK CREEK - Clover P. "Toot" Courtney, 94, of State Road, Rock Creek, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Austinburg Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 8, 1907, in Cleveland, the daughter of Guss and Helen (Spieckerman) White.
Mrs. Courtney previously lived in Cleveland Heights and 20 years in Florida, before coming back to Ohio.
She graduated from Glenville High School in Cleveland and attended the Ohio Normal School for two years.
Mrs. Courtney was an office worker for Ohio Bell in Cleveland for 20 years.
She married Albert Courtney on Sept. 15, 1922, in Cleveland.
Mrs. Courtney enjoyed eating good food, and loved her grandchildren and was a devout Christian Scientist.
Survivors include one daughter, Clover Ann Clementi of Washington; and a son, Kenneth of Rock Creek; six grandchildren, Kelly, Ken, Kristi, Andy, Tony and Albee; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972 and a son, Paul.
No calling hours or services will be held.

Adam E. Roland
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Adam Edward Roland, 73, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at his residence.
He was born in Conneaut. For the past 40 years, Mr. Roland was a Ventura County, Calif., resident.
Mr. Roland was a fireman, taught paramedics and was employed with Lockheed in Burbank, Calif., where he served the Burbank Airport.
He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge in Simi Valley and a trainer and assistant football coach for 17 years at Simi Valley High School.
Mr. Roland was an avid football and golfing fan, loved woodworking, but his greatest joy was decorating his home at Christmas and handing out toys to the children.
Survivors include he wife, Loretta of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; son Scott Roland of Simi Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Deborah Roland and mother, Helen Prather, both of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Diana, Christopher and Scott Roland of Tucson, Ariz.; six half-sisters, Virginia Gagat, Carol Dell, Marie Riley and Cathy Hunt, all of Conneaut, and Betty Williams and Marjorie Baker, both of Ashtabula; a half-brother, Kenneth Prather of Seattle, Wash., and step-mother, Mary Roland of Conneaut.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 588 Camino Manzanas, Thousand Oaks, Calif.
