Marilyn R. McKean
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Marilyn Ruth McKean, 73, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, in Port Charlotte, Fla.
She was born July 16, 1928, in Eagleville, Austinburg Township, the daughter of Lester and Caroline (Decker) Dunbar.
Mrs. McKean worked for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. for 10 years and later for St. Angelo's Lanes.
She enjoyed sewing, swimming, reading and bowling.
An active member of the Order of Eastern Star, Ashtabula, she also belonged to the Grange for 50 years. She also volunteered for the Charlotte County Florida Habitat for Humanity.
For the past 16 years, she made her home with her daughter, Sue McKean, in Charlotte County.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue McKean of Port Charlotte and Beth Brockmann of Florida; a son, Larry of Florida; six grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and a brother, Harry Dunbar of Austinburg Township.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John McKean.
Arrangements will be announced at a later date and services will be held locally.
Edith E. Hoffman
CHARDON - Edith E. Hoffman, 96, of Chardon, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in Austinburg.
She was born Sept. 8, 1906, in Cleveland, the daughter of Stephen and Louisa (Vogt) Gordon, and had lived in the area the past two years. Previously, she spent 26 years in Euclid.
She was a secretary for the Weatherhead Corp., in Cleveland for 17 years, retiring in 1972.
She married Emil W. Hoffman on April 24, 1928, in Cleveland.
She was a member of the Euclid City Chapter 556 Order of Eastern Star in Euclid, and was a former member of the Euclid Hospital Senior Advisory Board for 24 years.
She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include a son, Mark Hoffman of Rome; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, on Dec. 9, 1974.
Service is 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. Officers and sisters of Nottingham Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Cleveland, will participate in the service. Private family burial will be at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights.
Calling hours are 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. An Eastern Star service will be held prior to the funeral service.

Nicholas J. Gamlin
KALIDA - Nicholas James Gamlin, 23, formerly of Ashtabula, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in an automobile accident.
Mr. Gamlin was born Oct. 26, 1978, in Ashtabula, the son of James R. Sr. and Alma (Ridenour) Gamlin. He had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident before moving to Putnam County in 2001.
A 1997 graduate of Edgewood High School and the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School, he worked as a press operator for PSI in Ottoville.
During his years at Edgewood, he coached basketball at Ridgeview Elementary School. He enjoyed softball, bowling and shooting pool.
Survivors include his son, Nicholas Reno Gamlin of Kalida; girlfriend, Dorothy Seibert of Kalida; three brothers, James R. Gamlin Jr. of Warren and Donald and Matthew Slebodnick, both of Ashtabula; sister, Harriet Balcomb of Ashtabula; mother of Ashtabula; father and step-mother, Darlyne, of Windsor; and paternal grandfather, Russell Gamlin of Warren.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Nina Gamlin; step-grandmother, Josephine Gamlin; and maternal grandparents, Victor and Harriet (Allison) Ridenour.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Pentecostal Church of God, 2201 Cook Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kenneth Roberts will officiate.
Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula.

Roy G Sweeney

Roy G. Sweeney, 73 of Lake Rd East, Geneva died Tuesday (Nov. 1st) at his home. He was born (October 16, 1938 in Paris, Kentucky the son of William L. and Thelma L. (Bradburn) Sweeney.
He had served in the Army during the mid 1950’s and while stationed in France he received the French Medal of Honor and also the Congressional Medal from the United States. Following service in the Army he served 11 years with the Ohio National Guard with the 107th Armored Calvary.
He was employed as a Iron Worker and Welder with Local #17 Iron Workers Union for 35 years retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #112 of Madison; VFW Post #6846 of Geneva and the Audubon Society. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, sky diving, scuba diving and white water rafting.
Surviving him are his son, Patrick “Rick” (Edna) Sweeney of Geneva; a daughter, Lena “Penny” (Robert) Gething of Austinburg; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Sweeney of Leroy, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jason, Alisha, Christine, Joe, Ashley and Christopher; three great-grandchildren, Jason, Trishtin and Ryan; and a sister, Jane (Charles) Rought of Ashtabula. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janice L. Sweeney in 2007’ by two sons, Timothy R. Sweeney in 1987 and James A. Sweeney in 2008 and by three brothers, Paul Sweeney, Frank Thomas Hicks and James Sweeney.
Funeral service will be Friday (Nov. 4th) at 11:00 AM at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway, Geneva with Pastor Phil Pearson of the Lake Erie Church of God officiating. With military rites by Geneva VFW Post #6846 following the service. Burial will take place at later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva.

Arlene J. DiDonato, age 85, of Ashtabula, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 at her home.
She was born June 26th, 1926 in Geneva, Ohio the daughter of Lee and Elizabeth (Shaughnessy) Fuller. On September 5, 1944 Arlene J. Fuller was married to John DiDonato, Sr. and they shared 46 years of marriage until his death in 1990. She was a homemaker most of her life and was very proud of her family. She will be deeply missed.
Arlene is survived by her sons: John (Bonnie) DiDonato, Jr. and Carl (Cindy) DiDonato; grandchildren: John (Kristine) DiDonato, III, Jeff (Danielle) DiDonato, Jim (Denise) DiDonato, Kim DiDonato and Charlotte (David) Norris; great-grandchildren: Jodi, CJ, Jessica, Michael, Courtney, Kayla, Matthew, Alexandra, Nicholas and Zoe; great-great-grandchildren: Brianna, Katlynn and Jasmine; sister, Beverly Potter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother: Dana Fuller and sister: Orange Merriman.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 P. M. Friday, November 4th, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st St., Ashtabula. Friends may call Friday morning from 11:00 A. M. until 12:30 P. M. at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula. Interment will be next to her husband in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Louise Bownes
COLUMBUS Louise Bownes, 67, of Carolyn Ave., Columbus, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Anaheim General Hospital in Anaheim, Calif., while visiting her son.
Mrs. Bownes was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Louisville, Miss., the daughter of Tennie and Estelle (MacDonald) Murry.
She married Napolean Bownes Aug. 20, 1950.
As a member of the Apostolic Faith Church of God, Conneaut, Mrs. Bownes served on the Usher Board, Missionary Department and as vice president of the Pastor's Aide.
Survivors include her husband of Columbus; two sons, Joe of Columbus and Larry of Santa Ana, Calif.; a daughter, Gloria of Dublin; four grandchildren, Vernell Jones of Columbus, Terrence "Kino" Chatman of Ashtabula, Lawrence Boysaw of Dublin and Alexia Bownes of San Diego, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Tommie Murry of Willingboro, N.J., Rummie, Henry and Joseph Murry, all of Cleveland; four sisters, Ardell Scott of Ashtabula, Melvina Thomas of Ontario, Calif., Mildred "Mae" Murry of Garden Grove, Calif., and Bobbie Odom of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Bownes Sr.; a grandson, Vernon Bownes Jr.; two brothers, Admon and Frederick Murry; a sister, Florence Clark; and her parents.
Service will be noon Saturday at the First Christian Church, 6920 Austinburg Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Robert L. Lyons, pastor of Apostolic Faith Church of God, officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. Saturday until the service.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.
