Margaret S. Burke
MONROE TOWNSHIP - Margaret S. Burke, 86, of South Monroe Center Road, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at the Inn-Conneaut Health Center, Conneaut.
She was born June 20, 1916, in Springville, N.Y., the daughter of Francis J. and Alice (Rassel) Gallagher.
She was a Conneaut High School graduate and a one-time member of the Catholic Daughters of America. A member of St. Mary Church in Conneaut, she was extremely proud of her Irish heritage.
She and her husband, Joseph Burke, were members of the Irish-American Club while living in Cape Coral, Fla. She also enjoyed playing bridge and joining her husband on trips on the lake freighters of which he was captain.
Survivors include two sons, Tim and Tom of Monroe Township; six grandchildren, Karen Zappitelli, and Joe, John, Kim, Brian and Kevin Burke; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1994; a son, Francis, in 1974; and a brother, Raymond Gallagher.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, 480 State St., Conneaut. The Rev. Raymond Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
No calling hours will be observed. A time of fellowship will follow the mass at her son, Tim's, home in Monroe Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to Conneaut Rescue Squad or SS. John and Paul High School.
Envelopes will be available at the church or the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
James H. Carter
CLEVELAND - James Harold Carter, 71, of Saybrook Township, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
He was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of Harold and Mary (Badders) Carter.
Mr. Carter attended Purdue University and was part owner of Tower Construction. He was an avid golfer, and most of all enjoyed his grandchildren and family.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Margaret, of Saybrook Township; one son, Wesley, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two daughters, Candace Cyrus and Cynthia Millhouse, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a step-son, Dennis Crandall, of Roaming Shores; a step daughter, Darlene Crandall, of Saybrook Township; his mother, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Barbara Loshe, of Decatur, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, in 1977.
Service will be at noon Saturday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Don Hammer of the First Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Olive A. Treen

Olive A. Treen, age 96, former Jefferson area resident and a resident at Saybrook Landing the past year, died there on Tuesday morning with family by her side.
She was born January 3, 1915 in Ashtabula Twp., the daughter of Syrus M. & Agnes L. (Knapp) Beebe and has lived in this area all of her life. She was a 1933 graduate of Ashtabula High School and was married to Richard J. Treen on June 8, 1934.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson where she served as a Deaconess for 13 years and helped prepare communion. She was a 20 year member of the Jefferson Exchangettes and enjoyed ceramics, knitting, sewing and crocheting.
She is survived by four children, Shirley D. (Cliff) Johnson of Flippin, AR, Damaris K. (Ronald) Mollick of Ashtabula, Bryan R. (Susan) Treen of Jefferson and Janice L. (Charles) Kennedy of Cincinnati, eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard in 1998, brothers, Chauncey & Theodore Beebe and a sister, Alice Emery.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 A. M. at the First Baptist Church, 85 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Jerry Bentley officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10-11 A. M. at the church. Rita M. Russell

Rita M. Russell, 78 of West 13th St. Ashtabula died Thursday (Oct. 27th) at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home in Kingsville. She was born July 6, 1933 in Linesville, Pa. the daughter of Nate and Bernice (Gillett) Denison.
She had been a member of The First Christian Church of Ashtabula. She was an Antique Dealer. She was a member of the Ashtabula Bowman’s Club where she won awards in Archery. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and she loved to sing. She was a kind and gentle soul who had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and being silly. She loved spending time with her family.
Surviving her are four children, Debbie (Gary) Heaven of Ashtabula, Janice (Greg) Augustyniak of Ashtabula, James Russell of Hawaii and David (Tessie) Russell of Hatton, North Dakota; twelve grandchildren; three great-0grandchildren and a sister, Audrey Culver of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Stanley in 2004; a son, Eric Russell in 1984; a daughter, Sharon Naberezny in 2009 and by a brother, Brice Denison and three sisters, Vergi Gesin, Zelman Everhart and Hazel Culver.
Funeral service will be Monday ( Oct. 31st) at 11:00 AM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. David F. Hines of the Kingsville First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Twp. Cemetery.
Calling hour will be 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave. Ashtabula, Ohio 44004 or to the Children’s Miracle Network.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude for the excellent care their mother received during her time at the Ashtabula County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Roslyn Y. (Harris) Lockwood, age 56, died early Thursday morning, October 20, 2011 at the Saybrook Landing where she has been a patient the past year.
She was born May 20, 1955 in Steubenville, the daughter of James & Herdasine (Jones) Harris and has resided in this area the past 10 years, coming from Cleveland Hts. She was a 1977 graduate of Malone College. She worked as a social worker for many years in Cleveland, both with the developmentally challenged and in crisis intervention. She was also a substitute teacher in the Cleveland Hts. & University Hts. school systems. Roslyn was a member of the Jefferson Community Church of God in Christ and her enjoyments included cooking, singing, community work & caregiveing.
Survivors include four children, Herdasine Y. Epps of Jefferson, Emmanuel A. Lockwood of San Antonio, TX, William Lockwood, Jr. of Los Angles, CA & Jamar Lockwood of New York, NY, two grandchildren, Heaven & Emmanuel, Jr., her father, Pastor James Harris of Jefferson and two brothers & three sisters, James Harris, Jr. of Canton, Beryl J. Jackson of Brownsville, PA, Adrienne G. Harris of Fruitland Park, FL, Janice M. Chappell of Jefferson & Lawrence E. Harris of Lyndhurst.
Her mother, Herdasine, preceded her in death in 2009.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Community Church of God in Christ, 1381 St. Rt. 167, Jefferson, with Pastor Carl Salters officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Friday, October 28, 2011 from 6-8 P. M. at the church. John A. "Jack" Moravetz
June 24, 1948 - October 14, 2011

John A. “Jack” Moravetz, age 63, Penny Ln., Lenox Twp., died Friday evening at the UHHS-Geneva Medical Center following prolonged health problems.
He was born June 24, 1948 in Irwin, PA, the son of the late William & Virginia (Drost) Moravetz and came to the Jefferson area in 1973 from Irwin, PA. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp. Reserves. Jack was a graduate of Clarion College and received his master’s degree from Youngstown State University.
He was married to Susan L. Colflesh on July 9, 1977 in Ashtabula. Jack was a retired teacher and administrator from the Ashtabula City School System. He had taught 6th grade at Station Ave. Elementary, 3rd grade at Plymouth Elementary, served as assistant principal at both Columbus & West Jr. High Schools and was principal at Washington Elementary. He was a member of the Gateway Church and the VFW, Post #943. His interests include golfing, vintage car shows, drag racing, singing karaoke, staying in contact with his fraternity brothers and he was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include his wife, Susan L. Moravetz, two daughters, Sharon A. Seames of Dayton & Jessica L. Moravetz of Kingsville Twp., four granddaughters, Allison, Lauren, Madison & Haylee and a sister, Cheryl VanBuren of Woodstock, GA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Brian Wright officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery with military rites offered by American Legion Post #103.
