Charles D. Brydle
RAVENNA - Charles D. Brydle, 55, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna.
He was born Feb. 10, 1947, in Conneaut, the son of Charles L. and Mary Elizabeth (Shank) Brydle. He formerly lived in Mentor and moved to Ravenna two years ago.
Mr. Brydle was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kent, the Pierpont Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star of Euclid.
He worked as property manager for Storage U.S.A. of Kent.
Survivors include his wife. JoAnn (Church); a son, Edward D., of Ravenna; a daughter, Susan Dadante of Madison; a brother, Robert of Kelloggsville; three sisters, Joanne Brumfield of St. Clairsville, Sally Miller of Valencia Calif., Betty Loveless of Conneaut; and his father, of Kelloggsville.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kelloggsville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Monroe Township Cemetery, Kelloggsville. During the committal service at the cemetery, a Masonic service will be provided.
There will be no calling hours.

Gayle A. Gladding
WINDSOR TOWNSHIP - Gayle A. Gladding, 89, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital, Claridon Township.
He was born April 19, 1912, in Windsor Township, the daughter of Maynard and Esther (Moss) Gladding.
Mr. Gladding was a lifelong area resident and farmed the land and lived in the home built by his great-great-great grandfather, who settled there in 1806. He was a poultry and grain farmer.
Mr. Gladding attended Stoneville District School and graduated from Windsor and Orwell High Schools. He also, attended Ohio State University.
He was a member of Windsor United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees, the Farm Bureau, Windsor Grange, Hartsgrove Masonic Lodge 397, and was a member of the Grand Valley Board of Education, when the present middle school was built.
Mr. Gladding enjoyed hunting, cars, motorcycles, fixing things, conversation and telling stories.
Survivors include his two sons, Harmon and Glen of Windsor Township; his daughter, Janelle Sarbach of Orwell; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Althea, who died in 1987; and his sisters, Bonita Slane and Dorothy Noderer.
Service is 1 p.m. Thursday, at Windsor United Methodist Church, Route 322, Windsor Township, with the Rev. Jeff Fatica officiating. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery, Windsor Township.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 140 East Main St., Orwell, and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to the Windsor United Methodist Church.
Jere E. Brophy
ENDWELL. N.Y. - Jere Edward Brophy, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, of heart failure. He lived in Endwell, N.Y and Raleigh, N.C.
Propelled by a lifelong thirst for learning, Mr. Brophy played central roles in a number of technological developments. At IBM, he played a key role in the research and development of the 370 series computer, and later was Vice-president of Manufacturing and Engineering for Control Data Corporation. As an entrepreneur, he was principle founder of Terminal Communications which was later sold to United Technologies. He started his own firm, Anco which provided consulting, design, and manufacturing of data systems, semiconductors, and medical equipment. Finally, as a Director of Planning for Tracor Corporation, his duties included financial analysis, strategic planning, acquisitions and new design products.
After spending an early childhood in Fairport Harbor, Mr. Brophy graduated from Harbor High School in Ashtabula in 1937 and joined the General Electric Apprenticeship Program. He entered Ohio State University, where he earned his electrical engineering in 2-1/2 years.
Following U.S. Navy service, Mr. Brophy joined IBM, which underwrote his post-graduate studies in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. In 1985, at the age of 64, he was awarded his Masters in Business Administration from Duke University.
On Sept. 21, two days before his death, Mr. Brophy received a Lifetime Achievement Award at Harbor High School, Ashtabula. During his acceptance speech, he departed from his prepared remarks to assure students that, in the wake of the events of Sept. 11, they could best serve the nation by remaining in school and maximizing their abilities.
Survivors include his partner, Barbara Carter of Endwell, N.Y.; a brother, Jere Julian of Woodbury, Conn.; two sisters, Rose Rhodes of Clearwater, Fla., and Shirley Baker of Columbus; five children, Susan D. Herndon of Atlanta, Ga., Dow E. Brophy of Mount Holly Springs, Pa., Ciel A. Gavin of Columbus, Linnet M. Steinman of Raleigh, N.C., and Jere Jon Brophy of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Margaret; and a son, Marc Christopher.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. on Oct. 19 at the Navy Chapel on the grounds of the Arlington National Cemetery. Burial will follow the service.

Lucille J. Kelly
AURORA - Lucille J. Kelly, 68, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2001, at University Hospital of Bedford.
She was born Sept. 6, 1933, in Clearfield, Pa.
She traveled throughout the country with her husband and lived in Ashtabula for 20 years before moving to Aurora.
Mrs. Kelly most enjoyed helping people. She always invited people with no place to go to dinner on the holidays. She loved children and made them feel important.
Survivors include a daughter, Terri Deavers of Bainbridge Township; a son, Jim Kelly of Stow; a grandson; three sisters; and three brothers.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Memorial mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 342 S. Chillicothe Road, Aurora. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service at the church.

Lois Ann Tracy
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP - Lois Ann Tracy, 71, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at her home.
She was born April 16, 1930 in Warren to Elden and Hilda (Bihlajama) Cain.
She married Elmer Tracy on Feb. 25, 1950.
Mrs. Tracy and her husband in Ashtabula together most of their lives.
She was a housewife and was a nurse's aide at Ashtabula County Nursing Home for a short time.
She enjoyed spending time with the ladies from the East Congregation of Jehovah's Witness Church, where she was a member.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Lynn Tracy of Kingsville Township; a daughter, Lori Lock of Pueblo, Colo.; two brothers, Ronald Cain of North Carolina and Robert Cain of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dale Eugene; and a sister, Wanda Fox.
Service is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the East Congregation of Jehovah's Witness in Ashtabula, officiated by Donald G. Mack. A private graveside service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery.

David L. Walters
CLEVELAND - David L. Walters, 45 of Cleveland, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the Hospice House of Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Mr. Walters was born in Conneaut, Sept. 15, 1955, the son of James and Lucille ( King ) Walters. David was a graduate from Conneaut High 1974 and later received a degree in Social Arts from Cleveland State University. He was employed with the state as a counselor for the Ohio Bureau of Rehabilitation and the Industrial Commission's Rehabilitation Consultant.
In his younger years David was an avid baseball player and loved the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He also enjoyed fishing in Conneaut Creek.
He was preceded in death by his father, James, in 1989, a brother, James Jr., 1992, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his mother, Lucille Walters Bartone of Conneaut, his wife, Kathy Hanselman of Cleveland, a daughter, Leena Walters, and a son, Stephan Walters, both of Cleveland, and two sisters, Diane Neiger of Painesville and Julie Riegler of Grand Haven, Mich.
Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill St. Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice House of Western Reserve.
Envelopes will be available at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut, or at the church. A luncheon will follow mass at St. Frances Cabrini School Hall and the family would like to invite friends and relatives to share in fellowship and memories.
