Robert J. Brainard
PAINESVILLE - Robert J. Brainard, 83, of Painesville, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Sommerville of Mentor Assited Living.
He was born March 23, 1918, in Paineville.
Mr. Brainard served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was employed as an electrician at Lubrizol in Painesville for 37 and half years.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he served as past grand marster, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6946, Geneva and attended Painesville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marian (Chambers); two brothers, Richard of Perry and Donald of Waverly and sister-in-law Ruth Martin of Andover.
He was preceded in death by son, Jerry; two brothers, Charles and Ralph and sister Lettie Jane Brainard.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville, with the Rev. Gerald D. Kalb of Painesville United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Helen M. Owens
PAINESVILLE - Helen M. Owens, 88, of Thompson Township, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Lake East Hospital in Painesville.
She was born in Mentor on March 28, 1915, to Roy and Laura Hannaford and lived in Thompson for more than 50 years.
She was a homemaker and foster mother, a charter member of the Willoughby Seventh-Day Adventist Church and belonged to the Thompson Art and Garden Club. She enjoyed painting and gardening.
Along with her husband, Clint F. Owens, she raised more than 150 foster infants in addition to her own family.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Kent Fenton Jr. of Thompson, Robin Martin of Knoxville Tenn., Vicki Riffett of Claridon, Consuelo Donnelly of Ashtabula, Tomeko Martin and Michael Fenton of Thompson, John Sagar of Collegedale, Tenn., Jeff Mayer of Texas and Carrie Malinowski of Mentor-on-the-Lake; 14 great-grandchildren; and her daughter, Elsie Mayer of Painesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her infant son Robert Owens; a daughter, Ruth Fenton; her parents; a brother, Ralph Hannaford; and sister, Doris Penley.
Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, at the Davis Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby. Family and friends will officiate. Burial will be in Willoughby Cemetery, Willoughby.
Ruth A. Smith
PAINESVILLE - Ruth Ann Smith, 86, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Homestead II Nursing Home in Painesville.
She was born July 13, 1916 in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of James and Susan (Hoare) Bogan.
Mrs. Smith lived in Hambden Township from 1948 until 1961, when she moved to Painesville. She had been a resident at Homestead II Nursing Home since January.
Mrs. Smith was a sales clerk in the children's shoe department and the shoe department of the May Co., Department store in Mentor for 21 years retiring in 1981.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Painesville and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chardon.
She enjoyed her family and needlework.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Adams of Munson Township, Margaret Greve of Hambden Township and Elizabeth Smith of Leroy Township; grandchildren, Bonnie Robbins, Richard Adams Jr., Robert Adams, Kathryn Quinn, Christine Brace, Barbara Creve, Kimberly Tomba, and Angela Daniels; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Irene Herbst and Elizabeth Bogan; and a brother, James Bogan.
Services will be noon Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 401 North St., Chardon.
Cremation will follow services with burial at Williams Cemetery in Leroy Township at a later date.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, at Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon.

Clair E. Wilkerson
PAINESVILLE - Clair E. Wilkerson, 83, died Friday, Oct. 6 at his home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1917 the son of the late Wade Edwin and Mary Rose (Tilton) Wilkerson. He married Annie Elizabeth (Lohr) on Nov. 26, 1937.
Wilkerson worked as a welder at Diamond Alkali Company from the late 30's until his retirement in 1970. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post 336 in Painesville and enjoyed making toys, dollhouses and doll furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Becky Chervanek and grandson, Eric Trisket.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jean Marie (Phillip) Cleavenger of McMinniville, Tenn and Barbara May (James) Trisket of Madison; two sons, Edwin Ralph "Bud" (Juliette) Wilkerson and don Howard (Gwen) Wilkerson all of Painesville; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison with the Rev. Kenton Wendorf of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday.

David J. Schuster
PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP - David J. Schuster, 46, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at LakeWest Hospital, Willoughby.
He was born July 28, 1955, in Cleveland, the son of Anthony F. and Florence B. (Krochmal) Schuster.
A Lake County resident for 41 years, Mr. Schuster lived in Willowick, Mentor and Painesville Township.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. (Posauad); his father of Eastlake; two brothers Carl A., of Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Richard, of Eastlake; and two sisters, Judith B. Petit of Marietta, Ga., and Susan M. Nagy, of Dorset Township.
A private family service has been held.
Arrangements were by McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.
Brian E. Zinn
PAINESVILLE - Brian Edward Zinn, 37, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 6, 1964, to Frank and Caroline (Mullins) Zinn in Willoughby.
Mr. Zinn was a maintenance worker for area companies.
Survivors include father Frank Zinn of Perry; mother Caroline Zinn of Freedom, Pa.; sisters Beverly Tamburello of Cleveland, Victoria Wojciechowski of Madison, and Michelle Krzic of Harpersfield; and brothers Craig Zinn of Perry and Frank D. Zinn of Willoughby.
Mass of Christian burial is 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cyprian Catholic Church, 4223 Middle Ridge Rd., Perry. Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Behm Family Funeral Homes, 26 River St., Madison.
