Mildred Swiger, 89, of Cadiz, died Friday, December 17, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, West in Steubenville. She was born May 6, 1915 in Strange Creek, WV, a daughter of the late Anson Joel and Amanda Perkins Walker.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cadiz, where she was active in prayer meetings and the Women's Christian Fellowship, and the Harrison County AARP. She is a former employee of the Scio Pottery Co. in Scio.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Harris; a daughter, June Harris; 4 brothers, Melvin, Lewis, Anson, and Orville Walker and 3 sisters, Hilda Cain, Naomi, Harmon and Marieta Gibson.
Surviving are 2 sons, Fred Byers and his wife, Diane, and Robert Byers and his wife, Jean, both of Wilmington, DE; a daughter, Jean Hoobler and her husband, Reuben of Jewett; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Friends may call Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cadiz, with Terry Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Hopedale Cemetery.

Janet L. Carter
August 15, 1937 - December 17, 2004
Janet L. Carter loving wife, mother and grandmother, 67, Cadiz, died Friday, December 17, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, Ohio. She was born August 15, 1937 in Cadiz, Ohio a daughter of the late Walter and Alberta Cope McKee.
She was a former operator for GTE and retired after 25 years as head cook at Cadiz High School. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz where she served as a Stewardess and a Deacon.
She is survived by her husband James Carter; 2 sons: James C. Carter, wife Diane and children Caitlyn, Nicholas and Lizaberh of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Thomas Carter, wife Tami and children Kyle and Kaci of Cadiz; a brother Tom McKee of Newton Falls, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Rose Marie McKee of Boston, MA; and her cocker spaniel, Winston.
Calling hours are Sunday, December 19, 3:30-5:30 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, 154 West Market Street, with Rev. William Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery, New Athens, Ohio.

Lillie Mae Lewton
October 28, 1930 - December 15, 2004
Lillie Mae Lewton, 74, of Jewett, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, West in Steubenville. She was born October 28, 1930 in Sunflower, MS, a daughter of the late J.T. and Myrtle Allred.
A former Crossing Guard at Harrison Jewett Elementary School, she was an avid Bingo player in Hopedale and the surrounding area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lewton in 1985; a brother, George Allred; and a sister, Christine Hudson.
Surviving are four sons, James Mason of Jewett, Jim Mason (Tracy) of Bloomingdale, Fred Lewton, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA, and Bill Lewton (Sheena) of Jewett; and four grandchildren.

Duane Albright
June 02, 1922 - December 15, 2004
Duane Albright, 82, Scio, died Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at his home. He was born June 2, 1922 in New Athens, Ohio a son of the late Charles P. And Pearl McGrew Albright.
He was the former street and water department employee for the Village of Jewett; former Printer at Grief Brothers Paper Factory in Zanesville, Ohio; a former school bus driver for Lakeland High School; a farmer; a member of Freeport Lodge F.&A.M and a Veteran of the Army Air Corps having served in World War II.
He was preceded in addition to his parents; by a brother Charles F. Albright and a sister Iris C. Cannon.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy R. Evans Albright; 2 sons: Marion Albright and his wife Cynthia of Scio and Thomas F. Albright and his wife Janet of New Philadelphia; 4 grandchildren; a great grandson; 2 stepsons: William Haney of Scio and George Haney of New Rumley; 3 step grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren.

Betty J. Keyser
December 10, 1922 - December 10, 2004
Betty J. Keyser, 82, of Cadiz, died Friday, December 10, 2004 at the Harrison County Home. She was born December 10, 1922 in Harrison County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Frank and Martha Bernice Ramsey Porter.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Ridge Presbyterian Church, where she was active with the Missionary Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Keyser in 1983.
Surviving are a son, James and his wife, Myrna Keyser of Cadiz; two daughters, Nancy and her husband, Thomas Dowdle of Maryville, TN, and Sandra and her husband, Kenneth Caldwell of Midland, MI; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four sisters, Maxine Snode and Marian Dennis, both of Cadiz, Janice and her husband, Luke Yeager of New Philadelphia, OH, and Kay and her husband, Charles Singer of Louisville, OH.

Agnes McGavran Grove

Agnes McGavran Grove of Media PA, formerly of Cadiz, Ohio, died December 7, 2004 at Granite Farms Estates, Media. The daughter of Frank Jr. and Mary Holt McGavran, she was born November 1, 1908.
A graduate of Ohio State University, she taught at Bloomfield, Ohio, Titusville, PA, and then at Cadiz High School and later served on the local board of education. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, the Ohio and Harrison County Historical Societies, the Ohio Outside Drama Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and has served on the board of the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Grove, two brothers, Samuel B. and James H. McGavran, and a sister, Mary Virginia Koebel.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary,and her husband, John McCoy of Media, PA.; a son, Dr. Thomas M. and his wife, Beverly Grove of Beverly Hills, CA; a brother, Dr. Charles W. McGavran of Santa Barbara, CA; and five grandchildren.
Memorial Gifts can be made to the Cadiz High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, the Harrison County Historical Association, or the Harrison County Courthouse Restoration Fund.

Archie R. Kelley
November 28, 1923 - December 06, 2004
Archie R. Kelley, 81, of Cadiz, died Monday, December 6, 2004 at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville. He was born November 28, 1923 in Unionvale, Ohio, a son of the late Harvey and Nora Thompson Kelley.
He was a retired Class A Mechanic for Hanna and Consolidation Coal Companies in Cadiz and attended the Cadiz Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. An avid baseball player, he was a pitcher for teams in Piney Fork in his youth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Chester Kelley; and by three sisters, Vivian Straight, Wilma Davidson, and Shirley Kelley.
Surviving are his wife, Joanne Zimmerman Kelley; one son, Dennis and his wife, Pauline Kelley of Port St. Lucie, FL; two daughters, Brenda and her husband, Frank Collins of Coshocton, and Patricia and her husband, William Brown of Altamonte Springs, FL; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Brinker of Lodi, and Alice Chaney of Canton.
Friends may call Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with James Richmond officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

Isabel R. Milliken
March 24, 1915 - December 02, 2004
Isabel R. Milliken, 89, of Cadiz, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the Carriage Inn of Cadiz. She was born March 24, 1915 in Athens Twp., Harrison Co., Ohio, a daughter of the late Emmett R. and Mary Jane Schrader Snodgrass.
She was a retired cook from the Scio Pottery Co. in Scio and a member of the Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Worthy Glenn ''Joe'' Milliken in 1992; three brothers, Glenn Ross, Lawrence Allen, and Harold Raymond Snodgrass; and two sisters, June and Daisy Mae Snodgrass.
Surviving are three sons, John (Becky) Milliken of Cadiz, James Milliken (Mary) of Cape Coral, FL, Danny Joe (Lisa) Milliken of Harrisville; one daughter, Wilma (Jerry) Graham of Cadiz; a daughter-in-law, Helen Milliken of Columbus; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four sisters, Gertrude Carver, Ada Snodgrass, and Norma Furr all of Cadiz and Vivian Corbin of Uhrichsville, Ohio.

Lynne Mitchell
August 18, 1947 - December 01, 2004
Lynne Mitchell, age 57, of Boca Raton, Florida went to be with the Lord Wednesday December 1, 2004. Wife and mother extraordinaire she battled Multiple Sclerosis for 35 years, with a positive Christian determination that was an inspiration to many. Born in Cadiz, Ohio 8/18/1947, she graduated from Ohio University, taught grade school, and earned a Masters in Education in Remedial Reading. She was married to her high school sweetheart in 1969, and they moved to Florida in 1973 where they started a family and Lynne spoke for the Christians Women's Clubs around Florida.
Lynne is survived by her husband of 35 years John. Two sons and their wives, Kyle and Dawn Mitchell, Ft Lauderdale, Florida and Todd and Jaclyn Mitchell, Troy, Ohio. Mother Gladys Dickey Mattern Reppart and sister Patricia Mattern Rice. She was preceded in death by her father Wilbur (Nemo) Mattern, step-father Thomas Alfred Reppart and sister Jacqueline Mattern Risdon.
Interment will be in Cadiz, Ohio following a service at the Presbyterian Church 11:00 AM Saturday, December 4, 2004 and a reception will follow the graveside service at the Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Lynne's Life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Boca Raton, 11:00 AM Saturday December 11, 2004. Local arrangements are by Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio.
Lynne's family and friends were active raising funds for the annual MS Walk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ft. Lauderdale MS Society, 3201 West Commercial Blvd. Suite 127, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. 33309, in the name of Lynne Mitchell MS Walk Team.
