Reginald A. Smith Jr.
MENTOR - Reginald A. Smith Jr., 56, of Middlesex Road, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at his home.
He was born Oct. 15, 1945, in Ashtabula, the son of Reginal A. and Eula (Rosenburg) Smith.
Mr. Smith worked as a cook at various restaurants in Mentor, until his retirement because of ill health.
Survivors include his mother, Eula Gordtney of Mentor.
A service will be held at the convenience of the family.
The Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, has charge of the arrangements.
Michael J. Mazur
MADISON TOWNSHIP - Michael J. Mazur, 76, of Madison Township, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Stephen and Josephine (Kubuw) Mazur.
Mr. Mazur served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine officer.
Mr. Mazur was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Franciscan of the Third Order.
Mr. Mazur helped a lot of people in recovery. He loved his dogs, fishing, camping and most of all his family.
Survivors include, his wife of 50 years, Elaine; daughter, Barbara Fankhouser of Chardon; grandchildren, Michelle Losey, Michael D. Davis, Timothy E. Davis, William Scott Fankhouser and Melissa Fankhouser; great-grandchildren, Angel Heath, Daniel Ryan Losey and Lynn Ann Fankhauser; great great-grandchildren, Courtney Nichole Heath and Phillip Andrew Heath, Jr.; a brother, William Mazur of Buffalo, N.Y.; and sister, Stella Mazur of Buffalo, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter Mazur.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison, with the Rev. Luigi Miola officiating.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, at Potti Funeral Home, 2726 Hubbard Road, Madison.
Burial will be in North Madison Cemetery.

Elsie Drzik
MADISON - Elsie Drzik, 87, of Madison, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at LakeEast Hospital in Painesville.
She was born July 12, 1914, in Cleveland, the daughter of Lucille (Gerl) and John Fabec.
Mrs. Drzik moved to Madison from Fairport Harbor in 1939.
She married Steve Drzik on Sept. 15, 1934, in Cleveland.
She managed the Beauty Salon at J.C. Penney's and prior to that was an instructor at Lake Erie Academy of Cosmetology.
Mrs. Drzik was active in the Immaculate Conception Church, where she was the former choir director. She was also the past president of the National Council of Catholic Women, Painesville Deanery.
Survivors include four sons, Stephen of Atlanta, David of Madison, Dan of Twinsburg, and John of Lansing, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Dorothy, David, Christine, Daniel, Thomas, Kenneth and Matthew; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Molly Zeitz of Chardon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1989; her sister, Lucille Gersin; and two brothers, John and Frank Fabec.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison. The Rev. Luigi Miola will officiate. Burial will be in the North Madison Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison.

Donald Ziernicki
NORTH MADISON - Donald Ziernicki, 39, died Sunday, May 21, 2001, at Lake Hospital Systems in Painesville.
Mr. Ziernicki was born Feb. 25, 1962, in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Kenneth and Isobel (Gilligan) Ziernicki of Munson Township.
He had been a North Madison resident for nine years. He had previously lived in Munson Township.
A 1980 graduate of Chardon High School, Mr. Ziernicki enjoyed all sports, having been active on a softball team in Painesville Township.
Survivors include his parents, of Munson Township; a brother, Thomas Peden of Euclid; and two sisters, Cindy Ziernicki of San Diego, Calif., and Heather Crawford of Bainbridge.
Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. The Rev. Greg Schaut of the Church of St. Mary will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Munson Township.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Gregory A. Byers
MADISON - Gregory A. Byers, 46, of Madison, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at University Hospital in Cleveland.
He was born Nov. 14, 1955, in Cleveland, the son of Myron and Phyllis (John) Byers, and had lived in the Madison area for 21 years.
He was employed at Pet Processors Inc., in Painesville Township, as a machine operator. He previously worked at Great Lakes Auto in Perry, and American Auto, Towing and Salvage in Geneva.
He was an expert auto mechanic and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Madison.
Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Barnard of California; his wife, the former Paula Johnson; three daughters, Holly Caswell of Mentor, and Amy Byers and Nichole Byers, both of Madison; a brother, James Byers of Kirtland; a sister, Dana Byers of Willoughby Hills; and grandchildren Cody and Holden Caswell, and Dylan and Colin Byers.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Helen M. Cone
MADISON - Helen M. Cone, 79, of Madison, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Lake East Hospital in Painesville.
She was born May 30, 1922, in Cleveland, the daughter of Ernest and Christina (Steimley) Fark. A long-time Mentor resident, she had lived in Madison the past 15 years.
She was a homemaker, and married Eli Cone on Jan. 30, 1972, in Tucson, Ariz.
She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, a member of the American Trap Shooting Association and was inducted into the Ohio State Trap Shooting Hall of Fame.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Claudia Hemphill of Painesville; and two grandsons, Griffith Hemphill and Jonathan Hemphill.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Urban; two sisters, Mabel Miller and Florence Van Uum; and two brothers, Earl Fark and Carl Fark.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of First Church, Congregational, 22 Liberty St., Painesville. The Rev. Kay Grice, of First Church, Congregational, will officiate.
